Have an R34 GT-t which has had its headlights converted to standard halogen units on import (H1 12V 55W low-beam bulbs). It has a sticker saying "do not convert back to gas discharge" and the correct bulb type engraved into the plastic housings.

I've had the car for a couple of months now and have gone through 5 low-beam bulbs. Both sides are intermittently blowing, seemingly randomly. One night I'll pull up and notice one side is out (parkers and high-beams still working). The car is pretty standard, and electronically it's had an alarm system fitted but is otherwise stock - no extra spotties, computers or massive sub amps etc.

The seals seem ok on my headlights and no moisture seems to be getting in... The suspension is pretty rough (coilovers) but I'm not driving it that hard on the road.

Any ideas, anyone? Apart from throwing my wallet in the general direction of an auto electrician???

(and yes I've searched the forums prior to posting...) :D

Just from that info I know EXACTLY who did the conversion, contact the dealer and I'm sure they'll give you his details...he'll probably take a look for you to see if it's all OK.

Its a very dodgy conversion , take it back to them , it sounds like you have a short somewhere .

If you want to fix it yourself , take the globes out and have a look at the fiting , they probably used the xenon fiting and just put halogen globe in that .

If thats the case its probably shorting on the housing somewhere .

I dont know how you guys with converted xenons can see anything at night , they are pathetic .

If i was you i would get rid of them and reinstall xenons , then you will see the light .
