Wow, this thread which I have nicely dug up, has encouraged me to rebuild.

Price seems a little awesome in your case though.

Oil pump - Is that required?

Big End Bearings - Is that required if no issue?

APEXi - Power FC & Hand Controller AU $ 947.08

Greddy/Trust - Cam Pully AU $ 152.40

Greddy/Trust - Cam Pully AU $ 152.40

Greddy/Trust - Clear Cam Cover AU $ 83.67

Greddy/Trust - Forged Piston Kit AU $ 1,491.58

Tomei - Pon Cam Shafts AU $ 705.24

Tomei - RB26DETT Gasket combination AU $ 384.90

Order Total AU $ 3,917.28

Have I considered enough stuff? I'm thinking cams and cam gears are a good idea while I'm there. Really just wanted new rings, but rings and pistons lead to gaskets which lead to Cams which meant ECU.

What are thoughts? Not sure if to re-build or sell and get something thats already awesome....

Will need alot more than that I'd reckon - I'd definately do bearings, oil pump, add in costs of machining and labour of course. I'd also do headgasket as well as service the head at a minimum. No point in half rebuilding a motor as those components you've missed may come back to bite you

To echo what has been said, do not half do it. Pulling the motor down is an excellent opportunity to replace everything in one hit, save on labour and make the most of it. Its simply not worth overlooking certain parts purely to save a few dollars.

Im guessing by your quoted prices that you have not factored in delivery from where ever you are planning to buy from.

Why have you opted for Trust cam gears? From memory the Poncams alone are around $900 delivered and Tomei has a bundle available with Tomei 260 degree poncams and new Tomei Duralumin cam gears for around $1190 - a much better value alternative :D

That is a price list made up from nengun shopping cart. I have opted for those parts as they are the only parts I could find on the web site. I have also opted to use this website because all parts seem cheaper than anything else. Ofcourse I would shop around before actually doing it, this is just a guide for me.

I don't intend to leave things out, thats why I am asking opinions, I have never pulled an engine down before.

Greddy/Trust - Large Oil Pump AU $ 1,074.09

Nismo - RB26DETT Engine Parts Main Bearing Inner Set AU $ 214.25

Add that, total is up to Order Total AU $ 5,246.32 + Shipping ofcourse.

See thats why I asked, cause I know I have probably forgotten more stuff and its now becoming clear that I really can't afford this and am probably better off selling.

What they said above^^^, do it all right when the engine is out...definitely need a full gasket set for engine, turbo's & a new head gasket is a must. Multi layered metal. Dont know if you are considering rods? and also balancing costs for all the moving parts.

Full head reco, seats etc, & new valves and springs if there is any damage?

might want to consider a sump enlargement and also baffle kit. Also maybe clutch rebuild while the engine is out.

might be a good idea to price a lot of the little stuff that adds up like timing belt, plugs, oil, polishing/painting tapet covers & oil catch can.

People keep saying gaskets... have listed gaskets already...

There is no damage to any of the engine... its just old.

Should I reco the head even tho this is the case?

Wasn't considering rods after I read an article saying they are good for 350RKWK+...

Timing belt, plugs, oil/filter.... mmm yeah true... more stuff.

So the price of around $6K for parts is ok tho by the sounds of it. Including new cams and ecu.

Is it really that hard to do it yourself?

Whats the things that you would say is just to hard (risky) to do yourself, given I have never taken more than a tappet cover and a turbo off before.

heres a list of things i done to my engine

oil pump nizmo

oil restrictor to the head

forged pistons and rings

kings race bearings

stock engine gasket kit

harmonic balancer

timing belt

head serice and set tappets

balance engine

bore and hone

crank crack test

head studs

radiator service

oil and oil filter

coolant

spark plugs

acid clean block

tunnel bore check

welsh plugs

deck the block

Jun oil sleeve

tomei metal gasket kit

tomei sump baffles

I think theres is still more to add to this but gives u a good idea on what you need i want for rods as will end up being about 11k for parts

    • Hey lads, reviving an old thread.  As an update, since the last time replied to this thread, ive done mostly suspension. Havent touched the motor except for maintenance. Though upon changing spark plugs, found out i had splitfires pre-installed! Updates: - Got me some stock airbox top cover and snorkel to fit onto the original intake. Should be free of defects - Bought a set of R34 GT-T brakes (not installed yet, going to rebuild + respray in champion blue + white 'Nissan' text) - Bought the last set of bilsteins from @Sydneykid and had them installed. Has been making some sounds on the rear but hopefully should be sorted out after this New Year break. - Regreased front caster rod bushings (poly bushes..) - Rear upper camber arms - Whiteline sway bars (BNF27Z 22mm + BNR11XXZ 24mm).  The rear sway bars are a bit short (ive read 50mm else where) but was still able to get them in.  Anyhows, I reckon suspension is sorted now. Maybe replace bushes (do have a set of front upper control arms from SK not installed yet) but should be okay for now. From now, I'm wanting to start working on the motor, drivetrain etc etc. Still debating on the order to go on and what to buy etc but: - ECU ( Haltech or Link ( Link states that it dont support A/T or AWD functions... Can anyone attest to this? ) - Highflow turbo ( ATR43ss2 ) - Intercooler ( Not decided yet, but cant find many good afoordable ones. Toshi says to opt for crossflow Japanese. Bit difficult this one, unless I get a returnflow Blitz from JJ? ) - Injectors ( Any recommendations ? I do have a nismo FPR ( Thanks SK ) ) - Seats - Tune by either Toshi or DVS To be fair, I did consider just keeping the stock turbo and nistuning it. Sat in a mates stock N, that had something like 200kw, and I reckon that felt more than enough. Maybe I should just go this route ahhaha. Too many choices.... Planning a trip down south, so wanting to just clean things up and make sure it gets to and from in one piece. Anything else specifically I should do before ? Cheers lads
    • Must be for the car’s lucky charm 🤷🏽‍♂️ She runs fine, but it just seems to take about 1L less. Maybe I’ll have the oil sump dropped at some point to check if there is anything
    • Hmmm interesting. Mine is the exact same and clearly the right one.  The mystery of the engine oil being full after 3.5-4L continues
    • Yes I as well would like to find out where I could get some of the seat material with the red or blue small squares in it
