240rwkw....very nice.

I am definately going to get cam gears...no doubt about it.

Mick, what kind of power did you make before you dialled in the cam gears?

did you dyno it before you dialled them in..when your afms have been replaced n stuff?

thanks for the replies ppl......

The cam gears are standard ones that are modified by an engineer. Heaps of other done with no troubles. They were done through ICE Performance and dialed in by Ben at Race Pace.

Peak power was still 200 odd with the AFM fixed and gears not dialed in. We uped the boost one pound (15.5 pound I have a 33 motor etc in the car) and dialed the cams in and it just touched 240 on the knocker. But like I said it is the way it does it that is so impressive. It comes on so much stronger so much lower. No wear near as peaky. It is going well at 2000, really strong by 3000 and over 200rwkw by 4200. It is juts so much more drivable. It was great before but is heaps better now. The engine is a lot smoother too (and I thought it was bloody smooth before). Ben believes that I could get 250 if I got rid of the cat and got more radical with the timing but I think I will keep it as is for a while. It is very impressive. It is a big change.

If you want too PM me a fax number (my scanner has gone kaput at the moment) and I can fax the dyno sheet too you. The difference on paper is massive through the mid range. The difference in real is even better :D

Mick.

just reading around some other threads. People are saying that the HKS cam gears are unreliable...is this true?

something to do with that the teeth wear and theres only 3 bolts to hold them in place....and that under load...the belt can slip, which in turn ****s up the timing.

SHIT! :D

anyone shed some light?

BoOsTeD_RB26,

I don't think it is worth repeating the other thread's here, it would be better if all the info was kept in those threads so that it is easier to find.

There are rumors that the HKS gears are unreliable, but there are many other options available, so some of us may try them.

See'ya:burnout:

how much would a power fc set me back....but just the FC....not hand controller...perhaps i will consider it but i dunno..have to see.

an additional odd $700 seems alot for just the fc.....what are the benefits of the fc?

either way...im definately going to get the cam gears

if ur in melb,go straight to race pace, ben will sort u out and u shouldnt need a powerfc or afc.

afc is a toy, wouldnt bother wasting ur bucks.around 240kw is achieviable without both of them ,provided u have a good engine to start with.cam gears are u must!

Go for the Power Fc Plug it in or unplug it and sell it if you dont need it anymore. No butchering of wiring and heaps more tunable than other bits and pieces u wana get. Cam gears dont waste your money just drill the standard ones and dial them in. sell Your boost controller. I dont know why people waste their money on boost controllers when they run relatively low boost levels. Your right foot is the cheapest boost controller.

the problem is not where to begin but when to stop. Its a disease i tell u.

can u clarify what u mean for all of us wasting our money on boost controllers, how u control boost with ur foot

Not to insult anyone but if your running standard turbo's and your wanting 1bar max boost then just remove the restrictor and save your money. If you want a little more boost use a mechanical controller and set it where you want it. Then as you drive if you want to go faster then put your foot down further. Correct me if im wrong b/c im no mechanic so i probably shouldnt even comment but an EBC is for running high boost levels and low boost levels eg 1Bar. BUT with stock turbos why waiste money on EBC when you cant get more than 1Bar safely?

glad to see u have clafified what u were saying, dunno what its got to do with your foot though.

your right removing the restrictor should get close to 1bar,but a mechanical bleed isnt as accurate as a elec solenoid, this is why most people prefer.

lets assume ur running 16psi with a bleed.this can alter depending on temeprature etc,its a little easier to conrol inside the cabin with a elec boost controller.if ur running a gtr on standard turbos u dont really want it going above16psi for sustained periods.

Between EBC and mechanical valve, I'd go EBC.

It holds boost better and doesn't spike as much. Also you have to re-adjust mechanical in summer and winter due to air temp difference.

But I'm running standard minus restrictor at the moment cause I've got no plans to go past 1 bar yet.
