Hey Guys,

Trying to clean out my radiator and engine.

1) Is it safe to remove the top hose, run the engine, then fill the radiator up as it pumps the water out of the enginge, then once it's all clean, I can then shut the engine off, fill with coolant?

2) Assuming (1) is safe, how long can you run an engine without water for? Can you do it at all? Like can i wait till the water is coming out clean, stop putting water in the radiator, wait till no more water comes out the top hose, then shut the car off? Or will that cause damage? Obviously it will need to be warm as the thermostat will be open...

3) Do I need to use the drain bolt on the side of the head? Can someone tell me where it's located? It seems the RB26 is a difficult job, is the RB20 that difficult (couldn't find a rb20 guide)

4) Where is the thermostat located...maybe I can just remove it, and just use hose pressure to clean thru the engine? That way I can do it cold/not running?

5) Other suggestions?

Thanks guys

Chris

You dont need to do that at all.

Take off the radiator cap, Undo the drain at the bottom of the radiator and Take off two hoses near the head and get a hose blow water through so it goes through all different parts of the cooling system. It would be a good idea if you are unaware of the condition of the radiator take it somewhere and get flush out prob cost you like $70.
