NYL83R
I was looking at lowering my r33 gtst with some king springs..... i can get the "lows" (35mm) but i wanted a bit lower...i was told that king springs recommend not putting the "super low" (50mm) springs on because it would be too low, causing the car to be hitting its bump stops?? is this true? the wheels are 235/40/18 anyone have a better idea....coil overs would be nice but are a bit out of my budget. i thought about 40-50mm lower would be nice without being too extreme and dumb. Vishel
A 50mm drop will effect the camber; you will need adjustable camber arms to correct. I dont think it will hit the bump stops. Also, the standard shocks don't like being so low and will wear out quickly. Had the super lows on my car and it handled terribly, probably because the geometry was all off. Switched to lows and the ride is much better. I suggest that if you're going to use super lows you will need to invest in additional suspension bits to get the suspension geometry right. Also have 238/18's and there's heaps of space under the gaurds, no problems with rubbing. siksII
lowering any more than 25mm will stuff things up according to whiteline.. read the article on the r33 on their website.. i used to have coilovers and now have whiteline suspension(25mm drop) and it looks and handles good.. NYL83R
yeah i didn't think 50mm's lower would be much of a problem....will have to look in to getting new shocks as well then. Also should get the camber adjusted. Anyone know of something other than whiteline kits? I know they are good, i just want another option to choose from. cheers Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/69728-king-springs-too-low/#findComment-1291686 Share on other sites
siksII
well the shocks are not specific to whiteline, apparently they are off the shelf items from bilstein, so you can probably get them cheaper direct.. as for springs, you could also try king springs, but the whiteline springs are not too expensive (around 350) anyway.. there are a lot of options in terms of springs, but i believe that bilsteins are best suited for an r33 in our conditions... and yes you will need a camber kit if you want to drop it heaps, most suspension places will be able to sell you these... NYL83R
thanks, well i guess i will be getting that rear camber kit. do you really need to adjust the front if lowering 50mm? or do you think it would be ok? I can get the king springs cheap, so thats what i'll be getting. just have to decide on low or super low. The shocks i will shop around but i will look into the bilsteins ones. cheers Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/69728-king-springs-too-low/#findComment-1300227 Share on other sites
NYL83R
i just measured from the centre of the wheel to the edge of the gaurd, rear is 370mm and the front is 365. i'm thinking now that 50mm lower will be a bit to much for everyday driving. any comments? illusiVe
my car being a r33 GTS4 would mean that i dont have this effect? my car is 100mm off the ground (at lowest point) and i didnt notice any difference in control, if anything better because of lower COG. Coupe-This
i think you should check what the lowest point of the car is before you go buying super lows, who cares if you get them cheap, go out on the weekend and get dicked over because they are too low. i think its 100mm or 110mm you can have at the lowest point. Most cars out there are illegal when you look at them, just make sure urs isnt, just to be safe or not to be picked on, (AS MUCH) you do after all drive an import good luck Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/69728-king-springs-too-low/#findComment-1302505 Share on other sites
NYL83R
yeah after measuring how low the car will be with super lows...ie edge of gaurds lower than the tyres, i think i will go with the low's. i still want to be able to drive the thing after all Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/69728-king-springs-too-low/#findComment-1303063 Share on other sites
