Agree totally about karting in the wet teaching you car control, but you can't really apply the same principles on the road.  In the rain in a kart you drive OFF the racing line (around the outside of the track where there is less oil etc.).  I don't think the authorities would look very kindly on you driving on the footpath just because it was raining

Lol!! True....but my point is with the rear spinning up the kart has a solid axle and gives a feel similar to the LSD (ie Both wheels spinning and car snapping sideways very quickly) where as your average car only one wheel spins up at the rear therefore being more forgiving in the wet.

Pitty the cops NEVER inforce this rule. Whats the point of even having the rule if nobody inforces it

Try driving in the right lane in a skyline or a modified car and i bet you they'll enforce that law as soonas they see you... plus you'll make headlines "Hoons slow down in fast lane causing traffic conjestion"

Sounds like the attitude I used to have when I was a man (and much younger and thought I knew it all)

I guess now I'm just one of the boys (older and wiser ? ).. as I've learnt that it doesn't really matter how good you can drive or think you can drive .. hit a big enough sheet of water and start aquaplaning and ur just there for the ride, so hang on. I guess some ppl will just have to learn the hard way tho

I aquaplaned on the western freeway (outbound at the moggil rd overpass) many years ago (about 2 months later they decided they better fix the road) it didn't end well, about a 50k insurance bill. This happened when travelling at the speed limit so I have learnt that it's a real danger without adding excess speed to the equation.

Any of you men out there that wanna experience the fun of aquaplaning should find urself a suicidal mate .. jump in the passenger seat and get him to drive at 90km/h at a brick wall. That helpless feeling you will get as your about to hit the wall and you have no control over the outcome, that's the feeling of aquaplaning

I have aquaplaned many of times in the wet almost hitting a brick wall at 100kph (Not in a skyline I might add) and almost get sandwiched between 2 trucks while aquaplaning, and a few others no worth talking about.

If you aquaplane and you have a half descent amount of skill you can stop you car hitting something, And Im not saying you dont have any skill.

when aquaplaning (definition - to rise up onto a thin film of water between the tires and road so that there is no more contact with the road ) in my humble opinion skill doesn't help much whilst you are aquaplaning, but can help out to avoid an accident one you get grip again

unfortunately in my case I didn't get the chance to see if I had the skills, I managed to travel about 50m with absolutely no grip.

don't get me wrong .. doesn't mean I drive like a girl in the wet, just a little more cautious and mindful of the fact that doesn't matter ur skill level, quality of tyres or any other factors .. sometime you may find yourself in a situation where none of it's going to help

The only reason I would prefer not to drive in the wet is because maybe there are a few people out there with the kind of attitude I used to have .. I have skills.. I have a good car .. great tyres .. I'm indestructable .. it's wet .. let's have FUN !!

I still say leave a bigger gap. Most people dont, trust me. And by most people I do mean most people, even people on here (SHOCK HORROR!!!)
