front facing standard plenum mod

reading a few threads on this i havnt quite come to a conclusion...

is it a good worthwhile mod? can it be trusted?

basically the only reason i'm thinking this is i wouldnt mind the shorter pipework (and a little extra response would be nice) but i dont want to sacrifice reliablity, i have a teensy bit of cash to maybe spend on the car and this is quite a cheap thing to do.

i also would be interested in pricing get get the rb20 modded for front piping. I've ehard that it can lean out #5 & #6 though

Have you done cams yet jimbo?

If the forward facing plenum has a largish volume then I think the response gained in shorter piping would be lost again in the larger plenum.

nah not doing cams anymore, not spending any more dosh on more power for the car, sick of the disappointment

no change in plenum at all i'm talking about still keeping the standard one just relocating the pipework from front to side

Don't about mods then. Make it reliable and then spend the money on tyres and track days. You will have so much more fun.

umm jimbo using the std plenum and making it forward facing will no doubt make you lose power as the flow is crap. the standard plenum is not designed to be forward facing. spend the money on something worthwhile.

the stock plenum is fine for around 500hp or thereabouts. there are problaby 5 thread covering stock plenum vs front custom hack vs greddy vs china ones etc. was covered recently. spend the money on something that makes the car go faster. shortening the pipes wont affect flow and make it "respond" quicker. a lot of people believe this, it wont do shit. buy a boost controller or cams or cam gear or fuel pump or z32 or fuel rail or fuel regulator or surge tank or catch can etc

What most people do is just have a 120 degree bend going from the inlet mainifold and around down under the headlight to the cooler. If i can find the photo i have seen i will post it up. Then again what everyone else has said, just save the cash for a real decent plenum or take it to an engineering guy and ask him what he thinks, the hardest thing will be getting equal flow down all the runners.
