I hope you didn't bring the car in before getting the import approval from DOTARS..... I'd be getting the person behind the deal to pay for the storage at the dock!!!! Beer Baron
car should not be on the docks for anymore than 1 week. you should have received the Bill of Lading and had your VIA ready and sent to your customs agent before the car arrived. if that was the car your car should not be there for anymore than about 4 days tops. Beauie
Thx 4 the response.. Yeah apparently we didnt put it on the boat till import approval was approved.. The guy was doing me a favor importing it and isnt making any money off me so i cant exactly blow up at him as he is a friend of a friend doin me a favour - when ever i call him he always say it will be coming off next week... Im really worried that something has gone wrong.. Any ideas what could have gone wrong - if i asked him for the papers what should i ask for etc ? if it gets approval for DOCTARS what can go wrong ? Your help is much appreciated as my stomach is churing thinking my dream might turn into a nightmare Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/70361-help-is-it-normal-for-a-import-2-sit-on-the-syd-docks-4-a-month/#findComment-1299637 Share on other sites
DAN00H
Ask him where the import approval fromDOTARS is, if he has that then it sould be right to come off the docks (providing Customs are satisfied it is clean....) Something not right here.... My car was in and out in 2 days. Guest
You proberly need the Bil of Loading, freight might of needed to be paid prior to leaving and that will hold it up. Ask if he has Import approval from DOTR's, Bill of Loading, has it been De Gassed, does it have a De Reg and was the freight paid, Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/70361-help-is-it-normal-for-a-import-2-sit-on-the-syd-docks-4-a-month/#findComment-1299949 Share on other sites
raz0r$harP.UK
Yeah, what they all said. Let us know what he says, what paperwork he is waiting on. It shouldn't take that long if the paperwork was in order. I did it myself with no prior experience and cleared my car two days after it had landed in Australia. wrxhoon
if you have all the paperwork it can be cleared the same day . You need import approval , jap derego , invoice and bill of lading ( if you dont have the B/L you can get it from the shipping co ). Depending on what gas it has in it it may have had to be degased ( pre 94 cars usualy ) . If you have all the above you have to pay customs ( tax ) freight and q/t and you can clear it yourself in a day or get a customs agent to do it . I did mine in a day with no prior experience . Good luck with it . Beauie
Thanks guys, Spoke to the guy helping me with it and he said he spoke to them yesterday and it will be leaving the docks on monday and going to quarantine - lets just hope Hobbs Bros have tightened there security after the guy that lost 6 of his GTRs Also once you get import approval say its a month till it will be 15 years old do u have to wait a month till you can get it complyed ? cheers Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/70361-help-is-it-normal-for-a-import-2-sit-on-the-syd-docks-4-a-month/#findComment-1301810 Share on other sites
raz0r$harP.UK
Leaving the docks and going to Quarantine? AQIS usually inspect vehicles while they are still in the docks. Only would need to do an overnighter in Hobbs if it has failed the initial inspection. I don't understand your second question? Under the current scheme, you can only apply for import approval (to bring your car over) in the month it turns 15 years old. Once it is approved and clears customs, you can get the compliance work done immediately. Has your car been brought over before it turned 15? Beauie
Nope, Just wondering if it was possible to get import approval before it was 15years old - i thought the car had to goto hobbs bros to get cleaned etc then goes to compliance? How much does compliance usually cost? if you get it all done thru the compliance place , side intrusion bars etc etc (adverage price?) Just wanting to make sure im not paying to much Cheers Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/70361-help-is-it-normal-for-a-import-2-sit-on-the-syd-docks-4-a-month/#findComment-1301857 Share on other sites
raz0r$harP.UK
Nah you have to wait til it's 15 years by the month before you can apply. Otherwise they'll send just your application back and tell you to wait until the month. Nah AQIS inspect the cars as they come off the ship, or pretty soon after. If it passes, you can pick it up with the paperwork. If it fails, off to Hobbs Bros and usually they clean it and AQIS will inspect it the following day. Getting all the compliance work done costs approx $1200. familka gtr
Its a few things unclear here. 1,what old is a vehicle .If 15 y old in case 1990 which month. 2,Who asked for import approval .You did or Your friend ,friend/f,f/. On which name is a aprroval isued 3,Who paid for car to Japan .You did directly to Japan or Your f,f and Yopu gave him cash 4,Do You have any paper work in Your hands 5,It was a paper work surended by Japanese exporter to freight company in Japan 6,7,8, Its a lot of another questions to be ask. I think that You are even worried if its anything on wharf .If Your car even arrived . Depens ,if You did not paid for car dont worried and get car somwhere else.If You paid and depend how much ,its up to You get money back soon as possible or You have to wait and keep playing game up to end. Its look strange to me ,but not a suprise for me.I have had similar problems 5 weeks on wharf 1070$.And I have other car allready from 18 of october still on wharf/5000$ prob.for storage only/.I did not paid for storage and I will not pay for second one. Its easy to hapend, if importers have finance problem in Japan .They are behind with payments and Jap . selers dont released papers, and keept them.Or send cars on purpose and they know that he must pay in Australia for storage. Sometimes send cars before import approval is isued and ,then You just must be quiet and wait ,otherwise You can lost car ,or dont get car off a boat and let the car travel on boat around again and make time. So ask f,f that You want to see import approval, invoice japaneese one.He must have one.Without invoice You can not ask for approval.Dee -reg paper You dont need if car is 1989 or older.Ask him for arrival notice from freight company. He must have it as car is allready in port. Or brake his hand , its working much quicker. Compl. car is can be done in one day.But You can do any time.Cost depends on car and Who is doing.15 y old You can do it by self,/except bars in doors/ and call engeenier to sign.
