Alarms

Recommended Posts

Need an alarm and installer.

ALARM: What brand and model do you guys recommend? I have read the Brant Nemesis is very good. Please list which you recommend and reasons why.

FEATURES: I have heard remote-start severly compromises alarm integrity. Is this true, and if so, are there any other functions that compromise efficacy?

INSTALLER: My understanding is that installation is extremely important to slow down a thief. Please provide recommendations on master alarm specialists. I am looking for someone with pride in their work, attention to detail, knows exactly what they are doing. I want someone who is technically superb. Please dont recommend Joe Dumbass just because he is a 'nice guy'. I dont really care if he is friendly, i want my car to be unstealable.

ACCESORIES: Do clublocks work? any other deterents that work well?

I have an Autowatch alarm with 3 point immobiliser, dual shock sensor etc. It also has a turbo timer as part of this setup which can be controlled from the keyfob.

I do have a clublock in the car which I use at carparks and areas that i'd prefer not to park my car but have no choice.

Unstealable ? nothing will make your car unstealable , they only make it harder .

The best protection by far is a tracker and not much more money than a good alarm . If they manage to steal it ( even on a tilttray ) you will know and you can see where its going .

Don't listen to the people that say all these measures are useless. It's not helpful, as it implies you may as well leave the windows down, the doors unlocked and the keys in the ignition than to bother with car security.

Instead, I believe in taking as many measures as you feel comfortable with:

  • alarm
  • immobiliser
  • tilt sensor
  • club lock
  • wheel clamp
  • GPS tracking
  • keypad
  • sticker warning of alarm

I have a Cheetah Pro-Stopper, which is probably the most over priced non-tracking, non-keypad 3point immobilser alarm on the market. I had upgraded from a Viper when first purchased.

It has the usually features, which all good alarms should have (back up battery, dual shock sensors etc), with the added benefits of microwave motion sensors, pain-generator siren (ie. screamer siren), & strobe light (before u ask, thats to blind them).

You might think well thats all well & good, but the appeal for me was the comfort of knowing the company/ dealer backs it up with a $1000 pay out, if someone manages to steal it. This is enough to cover my insurance excess, my car is insured for more than its real value (insurance job anyone??) :) .

The dealer also, gives a free maintenance check of the system after the 1st yr & low check up fee there after :) .

How many non-tracking car alarms offer that sort of security, service & peace of mind?

At the same time I havent heard anything, but praise for the Brant Nemises.

Oh yeah, I got a sticker with it too, does that make me a ricer??
