In my car which I recently got imported it came with a two compatible alpine headunits. One was a CD player (not MP3 I dont think) and the other one was an equaliser and Mini-disc player. All the speakers were removed prior to it being sold as well as a sub which was in the boot and also the aerial for the car (mounted in the boot i think?)

Now my problem is that it wont read any CD's. I would imagine that if it could read it, it would start playing it like normally but wouldnt be able to with the absence of the speakers. It just attempts to read it and spits it back out. Is this a compatibility issue? In that japan discs are different to aus ones? Or would you think that it would be cheaper/better to just buy a new headunit, although i would really like to keep the one I have atm.

Cheers,

If it's a burnt cd try a different brand. I've found back in the olden days when cd's cost $1 that golds were the most compatible (and then later platinums too).

These days it's anyone guess what is most compatible but still, try a few different cds. Formats are international, so unless you're putting in an mp3 cd into a cd-audio deck, or a burnt cd that hasn't been finalised you should be ok.
