thats good 'cause I use it!!! It was recommended by Meridian M/sports before I went to PI (high cornering speeds = more SBS) and as long as I warm the car up and don't give it stick till its properly warmed up the bottom end will stay intact.

I happen to know that the car in question (Archies) had gone from using Castrol at Calder to using Fushs at Winton.

If it is as expected a big end - what part the oils played in this is debatable. But until I see a GTR running overfilled Castrol oils do a big end I will not personally believe in SBS. LOL

I'm using castrol 10-60 as well on recommendation by a mechanic who races in some class (i forget which).

How much do you guys overfill the oil by for the track?

so the total oil you have in your sump is 5.5L?

a GTS4 has a gtr sump and it says 4.5l is what it takes with a filter change, i usually put in an extra .5L making it close enough to 5L.

Is that the same size for a R34 GTR?

Really...you think it would be as much as 1L?

I use Dash 10 hose, so has an ID of about 12mm i suppose. The oil cooler itself doesnt hold much oil at all as the tubes in the core are very fine, the end tanks would probably hold about 200ml though...so maybe a total of 600-700ml for my 19row oil cooler.

I only make the point in case there is an issue of running too high an oil level?????

Andrew sorry to say buddy, using Fuchs was not the reason for the failure, to even suggest one oil change could blow the engine is laughable.

The motor had major concerns b4 Winton, that's why Archie left Calder so early, the thing was pinging off its head. Archie also knew the internals were questionable and was warned (and agreed) on how long the engine would last. Why do you think he was soooo calm at Winton, after the blew it?

I have been using Fuchs for the last 3-4years and have never had any issues at any, track/fun day/drag/cruise/etc. I truly believe that this oil is just as good as the Castrol oil, but at the end of the day ppl make a judgement on what they know.

Not having a go at you, Andrew, just stating that there are alot of contributing factors in this car's particular life and that no matter what oil was used it would have ended in the same unfortunate way.

    • Hi guys, long time no post as per usual! It's been a busy year so far, the biggest thing being a new job.  After 28 years in the automotive industry I decided it was time for a change.  I was losing faith in the industry and where it's heading.  Now in a completely different industry (electrical) working for a company that manufacture water pump contollers.  Not as sexy as cars but it's an interesting,  challenging industry. I now don't work Saturdays which is a bonus!  It's still 50-55 hours a week but having Saturdays ack after 28 years of working them is awesome!   No news on the GT-R but i did decide to add some more JDM goodness into my life....           1990 300 ZX.  She's not perfect but for a 35 year old car she ain't bad!  Just going to tidy it up a bit and enjoy it.  It's currently auto but will start stockpiling everything for a manual swap. It WILL distract me even further from the GT-R but im hoping not for too long! It somewhat proves a 6'8" freak can fit in a 300 ZX.  Sort of...  I drove it home from the previous owners house in Melbourne via Black Spur and Merton Gap (2 awesome bits of Victorian twisty road) and it was amazing!  Handles so well!!!   I don't think it would be worthy of a full build page but I'll post up some of the upgrades here if anyone is interested?  Cheers guys!
    • End game is to: - Remove all the slop from old worn parts - Adjust setup so that the wheels actually fit and the car is drivable (currently it is not because of the extreme rubbing on the guards).   Progress over the last couple of days, removed the rear hubs! Next steps: - Buy bushings - Replace bushings/bearings on hub - Reinstall
