Rolling down a hill in neutral will actually increase your fuel bill.

The skylines and all new cars have a fuel cut when you are off the throttle and decelerating. This saves fuel.

Idling down a hill will only use more fuel.

Try this for an experimentation.

Use your gears to slow you down always, only use your brakes when your doing around 20km/h.

This means you will have to read traffic and drive a little cruiser than normal.

Watch how many kays you get out of a tank, I think it will suprise you.

I think this is one reason why some only get under 400km's to a tank where others get mid to high 400's.

Bugger me? Really? So me rolling for 14kms thinking I just broke a world record didnt really happen? I did get 607kms to that tank tho... (btw, hill late at night, no cars, didnt get over about 60kmh)

Rev matching obviously will use a little more fuel. Not sure how much though.

Its supposed to be good for a motor thats just came hard off the throttle (maybe why a lot of dyno operators give the motor a couple of light free rev's after a power run?) as it helps cool things down a little due to the little dump of fuel through the motor.

I don't see how having the car in gear helps you stop quicker... the best point so far is Geoffs saftey issue - if the engine stalls you'd have no brakes/steering....

As for the using less fuel using the gears to slow you down, interesting theory... may have to try it..

Usually if i'm coming up to a red light , i figure i'll just roll up to it and brake as i get closer to the line, the only bad thing about this is if it turns green again while im in neutral, i have to figure out what gear to put it in and put it back in gear.
