There are guys in South Africa that are paid by tracker sompanies to test the systems by stealing the cars.

Anyway if you know people who work in the companies that fit the systems they all know how to disarm them and where the beacons are installed.

A guy had the first SL600 (old shape) in SOuth Africa. Fitted with tracker and 2 responders running individually and the car was still stolen within a week, never to be seen again. Apparently an inside job cause the responders where fitted in totally dif places to usual.

well, the way the gps thing work is by using a phone sim card, which therefore uses the the mobile network.

the lsat time iwas at the aitport my mobile worked fine.

and when i get my trackong device, im gonna do the install my self, and it wont be a shoky job either,

steve

If it's using a a cell network then it's totally diff to what I'm talking about.

One question with that is what happens when it goes out of sim range. When I'm at my GF house I don't get any reception how would this affect that type of tracker?

The systems you are talking about are old tech . The latest trackers use GPS to track the car and gsm is only to call you .

GPS works anywhere on this earth , unless underground .

If your car gets broken in or moved from where you last left it this is what the tracker will do . If it has gsm reception it will call you instantly and tell you what happen to your car ( like intuder detection ) will tell you if car is moving , what derection , speed and location , its that accurate you can tell which side of the road the car is . Then you have option to cut the engine and if you have the software you can see on your p.c. the actual road its traveling and the speed at one sec intervals . I know someone that got out of a speed ticket when he produced the log to prove he was not speeding !!! This system is much more accurate than the police radars .

If there is no gsm reception when they brake in then it will call you as soon as it gets reception , in Sydney for instance that will be very soon .

Now lets say they take the car underground you will loose track of it but it will tell you the last known location and as soon as it becomes visible again you track it .

Now you tell me a better system and i will install it in my car now .

I have other options ( i wont go in to them here for obvious reasons ) in my car and i can guarantee that if i gave my car to an expert for 8 hours they will not be able to start it .

The reason i have the tracker is they may tow it or carjack me , if they car jack i'll give them the keys and as soon as they go i'll cut the engine on them with any phone .

If they tow it away then i can see where they are most of the time , they cant stay underground can they ? If they park it in undergroung carpark i'll know the driveway they used to go under then i can find it .

This system allows you to moniter the speed as well , say you lent your car to someone , then you set speed warning as soon as the car reaches that speed you get a phone call .

In the years to came every car will have one fitted in it , as they become cheaper .

Its called ezitrak , go to www.rojone.com and read all about it .

Threre is a group buy going on on these forums .

A number of forum members have the system in their cars .

First they have to know that you have such a thing in your car and they have to subpoena the log by that time its all gone it only stores a couple of hours on the log .

So no it wont work that way , you only use it when it suits you .

Are we talking an active and remotely logged system? I think some people are worried as to where the data is stored as to being accessable at some stage in time.

BTW Tikki some interesting forms of car theft defence in SA, I've a friend who was there and hes had some great stories to tell !

the data is stored in the actual unit, and only a certain amount of time is stored, so old data is pushed out as new data is pushed in.

it is only accessible by using a password after dialing in from a modem.

Yip there are some really weird and wonderful ones. One guy developed a system that worked witth the anti hi jack. If it wasn't disarmed after 2 min the doors would lock, power windows would wind up and lock then the car would cat and power off..... then drop a canister of tear gas into the car. It was never allowed because it could and more than likely would kill you from suffercation.

There is one guy that has a spring loaded razor sharp bar mounted on each side of the car. If someone tries to hijack him it can be released and is powerful enough to chop a leg off. This isn't legal as such but the guy has never been successfully prosecuted for it. And then there is the yeee old flame thrower kit. Jets mounted at each door so if anyone tries to climb in you just press the button and roast hi jacker. There are loads more but mostly people have just taken to arming themselves cause a Hi Jacker feels f all for killing you to take your car. I've had a friend killed and a friends father killed over a hi jacking and they didn't end up taking the car.

I seen a picture awhile ago of a lock that clipped around the gearbox shifter, I assume so people cant change gears if they try stealing it by actually driving it away.

Does anyone know if they are any good and where I could source one from?

I know the device that youre talking about as one of my old friends had one. I think it was piece of metal attached to the seat rail and a u-shaped piece of metal that locks the car into 5th gear. Sorry no idea where you can get one.

Good idea, but I think thieves would of broken the window sat down in the seat before they realized it was there. Might keep the less experienced thieves out but would still be out of money for the break in.

    • Plan on the day will be to park trackside. Depending on space availability we will try put a small shade tent and a few of the cars on top of the hill inside turn 3, this is an easy to get to parking area with views of Turn 2, Turn 3, Turn 4 and Turn 5 and limited other pieces of the view around the track. IMPORTANT NOTE! One consideration from previous years is from memory the trackside parking sells out before the admission tickets, for that reason I encourage anyone planning on coming to buy tickets for parking now via the official website; https://www.worldtimeattack.com/ The type of parking you are looking for is 2 Day Park & View (Access Around Venue) Vehicle Pass Only Please note this does not include admission to the event itself, remember to grab that also, and kids under 12 get in for free!

    • Good time for a carbon roof
    • Not in any way aroused by any of those, except maybe the big AMGs. And that would break my never a Euro, ever, rule.
