Hi everyone,

I'm waiting to pickup my R33 GTS-T from the previous owner and there was one question he couldn't answer about it.

The unit has an inbuilt LCD screen which controlls the sat nav, cd stacker, am/fm radio, audio equaliser and TV Tuner and, yes, get this, tape deck!!

I didnt check for the brand when I test drove the car, but later on when I spoke to him he said it was a Nissan branded unit.

Has anyone else seen one of these? I'd like to get as much information about it as possible, a manual would be even better!!

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

yep they are lots of funs to remove and the stacker is a sony A30 unit. they are indeed factory fit on these cars and removing one involves a LOT of rewiring as EVERYTHING is tied to a module behind the rear seat. can't remeber the make of the actual unit but clarion ( denso) rings a bell for some reason.

as usual the nav/tv wont work here. the stacker will be on its last legs as well.

have fun..

Hi Chris,

The unit has Nissan CW726 written on it. It has a 7" (approx) screen that shows either current radio station, cd stacker info, tv or input from the front mounted a/v inputs. The stacker itself has Nissan written on it too, and its a six stacker.

Any ideas on where I might get information on it, google returns one link (in japanese) and thats all.

I dont think its a Clarion unit as I believe those units allow the screen to retract into the dash, this screen stays out all the time although the angle is adjustable.

Any help appreciated.

Mike

its a clarion unit. ( the aftermarket clarion is motorised these arent.) nissan have used clarion in most of their cars for years. the only exception seems to be a xenavi item I worked on a while back.

Hi Chris,

Ok, thanks for that. So I guess I could try Clarion for some info. I'd like to get hold of a schematic diagram or service manual, at least that way I can see if it can be modified for PAL.

Check this thread here for a link to a company that does PAL conversions:

is it possible to get a dvd player to hook up to the tv that accepts pal dvds but converts to ntsc for the jap tv?

It may be possible, most of the current home DVD players can be set to output either PAL or NTSC irrespective of the DVD type, so you'd need to make sure the car versions do the same.

For me it wasnt about DVD tho, i was thinking it would be cool to be able to listen to the V8 Supercar races if I happened to be on the road at the time of the telecast.

Yep, there are more than a few in-car DVD players that do just that, they have an NTSC video output on them so that they can be plugged into OEM screens that have a video aux-in connector.

Can you suggest any reasonably priced (mp3 + tuner) models ant?

best I've come up with so far (price/value/quality wise) is http://www.jvc-australia.com/products/_pro...ils.asp?ID=1397

ok that changes things:

try this:

http://www.audioexpress.com.au/shop/item_s...?code_no=VS9910

price ( I need to update mine) is $1900

I already have a ntsc tv that came with nav system. Want a single din unit that accepts pal outputs ntsc + mp3 + tuner. Similar to this http://www.jvc-australia.com/products/_pro...ils.asp?ID=1397

If you aren't too worried about the brand, found the following after a quick google search:

http://www.strathfield.com/Products.asp?CatID=186

There are plenty of similar cheap no-brand units out there.

Though that JVC unit is pretty good value for money I reckon, cheaper than some high end CD units I've seen!

    • As a general rule removing rubber fuel hose is so difficult I would replace it if it hasn't been done in the last 5 years. The risk you damage the liner or one of the inner layers is pretty high if it's not almost brand new. BMW's recommendations around coolant hoses is similar. My R33's fuel hoses at the fuel tank were so perished that they were ready to burst FYI.
    • Ah yep, will do. Cheers!
    • Yes. It's either "2 wires", or 1 wire, depending on how you look at it. It is the connection that ties the battery -ve to both the chassis and the engine. Every electron that goes in or out of the battery goes through those 2 small spots (on the inner guard and on the engine block). If those are not clean and tight, then shit starts to suffer. Yeah, but measure it again cold in the morning, after it has had hours to rest. You can't usefully test the charge state of a battery immediately after it has been running because the alternator puts a surface charge onto the plates that takes a while to soak in and balance out. It will always read higher, and potentially look properly healthy, when fresh off of charge. But hours later it can look a lot less healthy. It's also worth measuring the battery voltage while cranking, although this can be difficult with a typical DMM because the screem update rate is so slow on most of them. An analogue voltmeter is actually a better tool for that. If the voltage drops too far while cranking, it is a sign of a poor battery. Although I don't think we're necessarily looking for a weak battery here - just wanting to exclude it.

Great event last year and hoping for the same this year.  Discounted tickets 20% off for their various tickets until the 3rd of Feb Monday. Drags, show and shine etc.  I've emailed them to ask to set a location aside for the Stageas for the show and shine - they are happy to do so if we can get them numbers, I'm happy to keep track of that. Entering as Nismo category.  I'll be road tripping up from Melbourne, would be cool to convey if people are interested, maybe there is SAU convoys from each capital? If you have ideas about that let me know.  https://gtrfestival.com.au
