Hey guys,

This question might've been asked already...sorry about this but I need to know where GTR owners recommend their car to be tuned. I'd be casing a tuner with a 4wd dyno.

I've had my previous GTR's tuned at Croydon Autosports in the past and they do a great job but money is a real issue for me now and they can be expensive.

I was thinking about taking it to Autotech at Granville....

Is it really worth saving a few dollars on a very expensive car and go with someone that not as well regarded or had nearly as much experience as Jim at CRD???

in the long run it will be cheaper to pay a little more up front, than have to worry about some back yard tune.... Rebuilding a Tough RB26 can cost big money, Trust me I Know!!!

I am not doubting Autotec's ability to tune a GTR, but i can guarantee that they wouldn't have tuned a third of the amount that Jim has... Experience is everything

I'm using Adam from JEM, I'm pretty sure if you speak to him he could hire a 4wd dyno as his is only 2wd

All he does is tune all day everyday no mechanical work so you'd be hard pressed to find someone with more experience

http://www.justenginemanagement.com/ I've always found 100% honest, fair and a great tuner which is about all you can ask for

i had mine tuned at HITMAN. I thought he was pretty good. just like boofiveters tuner all Matt (hitman) does is tune. so he certainly knows his sh1t.

no 4wd dyno though, but i'm sure he could get to one.

I had mine tuned at two places(RUF PERFORMANCE and a mate who tuned a few cars before) before going to CRD

Jim done the best tune buy far,the car feels like it has a factory tune in it and he got more power out of it then the orthers did.

Im running a POWER FC,4 inch exhaust, cam gears, pods, everything else is stock (GTR R33 LM) and it makes 250klw at all the wheels,it ran flat 12s on street tyers at the creek 2 weeks ago dont waste your money go and see jim

I had my old 33 gtr tuned at bel and it ran 11.7 @121 mph @wsid on 18" street tyres . The only mods , full exhaust , power f/c and 1.2 bar boost , everything else stock , even stock airbox .

Ben knows his stuff and he has the jap software for power f/c's .

He doesn't have a dyno but he is moving very soon and then he will have a 4wd dyno .

When i finish my r34 it will be tuned by bel , thats for sure .

I would have to reccomend Advan Performance in Silverwater, they are the only one's who i trust with my car and they have made some very good and reliable power out of GTR's eg. one particular R32 GTR running a T78 426kw atw they only have a rwd dyno but they pull the front shaft on GTR's for tuning. they know GTR's inside out :D

They are good but you have to $$ if you want to go there to give you an idea , price of a install for a boost controller $1000 inc tune . My face after he told me ... priceless .

so you're the GTR that ben talked about

You can get dynos to read whatever you want them to , the proof is on the track .

we have another 33 that ben tuned it only makes 290 kw @ all 4 but it did run 11.33@ 124 mph , so there you go .

Exactly, Jerry. There is more to it than just max power. I bet you that 33 makes more average power than one with a higher peak power figure.

It does definatly come down to the area under the curve but that doesn't mean you can't have a relativley high peak power with good mid range etc too.

    • Hey @Butters, did you end up getting this clutch in ? I have just ordered to a uniclutch track to go in my getrag 6 speed that’s in my BNR 32
    • I know you don't want to hear this comment, but I can't not say it.  I just can't see 200kw being worth the time and effort. Its like guys with NA cars, putting in headers/exhaust/tune for a massive 20% jump in power. Great, the slow car is still slow and you're down $10,000.  My vote is leave it NA or price in a gearbox upgrade and shoot for at least 300KW, preferably 350KW+.  Now you have a NC that will try to kill you from time to time and will be exciting to drive
    • Ah yep. The main message I want to pass on is, try not to get scared of ghosts when thinking about knock/knock detection.  What I mean is, healthy engines make noise. Knock is also noise. Your knock sensor and ECU combo are trying to determine bad noise from good noise based on how loud the noise is. The factory knock sensors and ECU are not good at doing this.  Modern ECU's are pretty decent at it, however I'd still say that you would want to verify that if your ECU says it's knock, that you actually listen to it and confirm that it is correct.  Are you familiar with the plex knock monitor?  https://www.plex-tuning.com/products/plex-knock-monitor-v3/ I expect you're the type of person that would be very keen to play with something like this. It is great knock detection and you can pop some headphones on and listen to what's going on.  Knock that you've deliberately induced in low load low RPM areas is not really putting anything at risk and is a great tuning/learning/verification tool.  I just thought this was worth mentioning based on the way you were talking about setting up a base map and the Haltech base map settings. There are better ways to spend your time then chasing ghosts and worrying about detonation in scenarios that it is crazy unlikely to encounter it.  I was also wondering, what ECU are you planning to get? Will it be long til you pick it up?
    • This came quicker than I thought. It ain't even 2025 yet.
    • I somehow quoted my post instead of editing it. I regret nothing.
