I'm at the point of considering my next step..

Current mods pod, 3" turbo back, avcr, atmo bov. I will have a power fc ready to install in the next 2 weeks.

I've done plenty of my own research and the problem i have is the extreme variation of opinions from various 34 owners and tuning shops. I've narrowed my choice of mechanic to tune the PFC down to 2 - APC or Chapman & Chapman. Both have quoted approx $500 to tune which seems to be the norm.

Now form here I am going one of two ways regardless of who tunes the car:

1/ get it tuned with current mods to 10/11 psi and see how it goes

2/ get front mount fitted before PFC install and select a turbo that bolts onto factory manifold (i don't want huge hp later, prob 400 engine hp at the most) then get it all installed and tuned at once

What do you guys think (particulary other 33/34 owners that have been down this road? - On the turbo side of things APC said they can modify my current turbo using stainless steel roller ball turbines which can supply enough air for up to 500hp for $2500 supplied and fitted....

Any help is appreciated.

Paul.

Thanks Ian - That reminds me - I wanted to know if re-tuning an already basic tuned ecu id cheaper. I would have thought it would be way less because way less hours involved?

Looking back at my original post it isn't that clear what i'm asking - If I can find a tried and tested turbo that bolts onto factory manifold That is under 2.5k I will probably go option 2 - anyone had any specific experience? I am assuming the above package will be very reliable?

Hiya Paul - A re-tune is usually just as much as the 1st time as theirs just as much setting up to do on the PFC.

Reliability at 400hp is fine as long as the mapping is very good. Mine did over 30,000Km before I broke mine (my fault with fitting an oil cooler, not the cars) at that power as an everyday driver from -5'c to +35'c in summer without missing a beat.

One thing I did notice is that the standard GTT radiator is utter rubbish! It's only 1/2 as thick as a GTST one (about 1cm! with very thin water channels) so I changed mine for a modified GTR one.

I'm looking at going down the same path but I've been advised differently:

Zorst (i have standard at the moment), FMIC, Super-AFC/Power FC, Cold Air Box, then a Garrett GT28RS (Disco Potato whatever that means) or if i have the money: HKSGT2835 Pro and definately get an oil cooler.

Ok, thanks for all the replies.

I've decided i'm going to get a direct bolt on intercooler kit fitted before it gets tuned. The car at this stage will therefore be going in to the tuner in the next month with fmic, bov, pod, avcr, 3" zorst and power fc. - Now many ppl on here have these exact mods with various different turbos - thats my main question - which turbo??

So far it seems my options are as follows (i want to spend max $2.5k on a turbo that bolts onto factory manifold)

1/ hi flow - GCG can do a 450hp hi flow to current turbo for $1900 seems to good to be true...

2/ garret / hks turbo GTRS or 2830 etc etc

Also will my current fuel system be ok to run 1 bar with the above setup (incl turbo)? - later down the track i think i can go injectors, fuel pump bigger airflow meter and possibly cams for quite large horsepower ;)

Choyda- The only tuning places I have used are as follows:

Chris Bromidge from QUICKMAZ for my s5 rx7 rebuild - + very good service, great guy and he doesnt have any dodgy apprentices working on your car

- doesn't have a dyno, he's always flat out because there are shit loads of worked rotors but not many good shops so its hard to book your car in

APC + very profesional but they've only done basic avcr dyno tuning for my rvr so i don't know what theyre like with more major mods

- FRICKKING EXPENSIVE but u know what they say you get what u pay for...

Champman + Chapman at woolongabba - Worked on my dads car seems very good, excellent reputation, bit pricey, doesnt believe in dyno's - He's going to be doin my 34
