Over the next week or two i will playing with a few bits on my car. Mainly moding a new front bar so to maximise airflow to coolers etc, (intercooler and 19 row oil cooler) and installing some temp and boost gauges.

Is there any point to running a much bigger filter off say an old school V8?

Since im going to be taking my oil temp reading from the filter relocation billet plate as my setup is engine, filter then cooler. This way ill get a worse case reading of oil temps coming out of the engine.

So since im going to be drilling and tapping the billet plate for temp sensor (perhaps pressure, havent sorted that yet:() i was thinking if its worthwhile getting a new flange that runs a larger filter. From memory the filter on a Cleveland V8 is huge...?

Also going to have a go at fitting a 24 row oil cooler , replacing my 19 row cooler to ensure that temps are controlled with the compromised cooler location. Question is its 1/5th bigger, will there be any real difference, or wont it be worth the bother...i would need to go bigger again to ensure that it will work better in its current compromised location (silly 65mm IC pipe runs right in front of it:()

Hi Roy, my 20 cents worth...

Larger oil filter, not worth the effort.

Larger oil cooler, always worth the effort.

Make sure you have it ducted though, it makes a HUGE difference to the airflow through the core. Without ducting, the airlfow takes the easier option and goes around the core.

If it is ducted, having the intercooler pipe work in front of it makes no difference. As long as it isn't right up close to the core of course.

:)

Roy - run one oil cooler on each side

My oil temp sensor is on the sandwich block coming out of the engine to the oil cooler, so gives the high reading. I'd like to get an oil temp sender on the feed back from the cooler side with a switch to the gauge see what the temp drop is across the cooler ;)

Ask a stupid question tho Roy, when are you going to actually sell the bloody thing???

Also, before you go away, can you put alllll of your findings in to a book or something? You could call it "Roys Book of Bloody good tips for RB20s!"

Its finding a buyer for it thats the prob...the reality that noone would buy the car set in:( It seems im the only one that thinks my car rules, so going to borrow the money i need for the holiday, its unlikely ill be sober enough to find a job OS whilst on holidays anyway:)

LOL...new shocks, brakes and bonnet over the next 2 weeks:thumbsup:
