IF I WAS YOU I'D GO WITH THE FIRST OPTION( WASTE OF TIME) IF THE OUT COME OF SHIMMING IT UP WAS ALMOST AS GOOD EVERY ONE WOULD DO THAT INSTEAD AND IT IS PROBABLY ONLY A LITTLE GIT CHEAPER IN THE LONG RUN, AT THE END OF THE DAY ITS IS STILL A VISCOUS AND IS NOT DESIGHNED TO DO WAT YOU ASK OF IT,

IF YOU GO TO WWW.GARAGE-13.COM THEY HAVE SOME PRETTY GOOD PRICES ON NEW AND USED 1.5 AND 2 WAY DIFF CENTRES AND YOU WILL BE LEFT WITH SOME CHANGE FROM $1000 ALL THE SECOND HAND DIFFS ARE STRIPED AND CHECKED OUT BY PROS SO IT IS PROBABLY THE BEST OPTION.

HOPE THIS INFO WILL HELP.

Hey i'm thinking about shimming my standard viscous lsd. I'd like to hear from ppl who've done it.

I've heard everything from its a waste of time, to it almost makes it like a locker.

Opinions?

sorry if my reply does'nt related to your questions.i'm quite new about all this thing.

i ve installed a standard viscous lsd to my ceffy..probably same with u.My problem is when taking a corner at a lower speed ,there is some strange noise i heard from the rear axle....it normal ?

Strange noise would be associated with something being wrong or the diff not being a V-LSD. Ie, a mechanical 1, 1.5 or 2 way would make clunking noises around corners.

More related to this thread, I spoke to 2 diff places who said they would be happy to shim the diff, although they called it something else I can't remember now, but said it would probably blow up in about 6 months and I shouldn't waste my time. Also said it's nowhere near as good as a mechanical one.

GTRs come with a mechanical diff as opposed the the viscous in the GTST. We use a shimmed standard diff in the race car and it is nice and tight.....we've too tight for a street car but you can get them looser
