Checking the battery is the obvious one.

When you push start it, it generally does take a while for the RPM to go back to normal so thats not unusual. It you had problems with the coil packs it wouldnt prevent it from starting it would just cause it to misfire.

Other things to look at are:

-Starter motor

-Alternator

Just look at all the things that could prevent it from starting but not affect the car once it starts running. But I would be lead to believe that it could just be the battery.

Cheers,

Have you got an alarm with an immobiliser fitted? Depending on how the immobiliser is wired can affect if / how the car will start.

Then again, a bit more info on how it won't start eg starter doesn't work, engine spins but won't fire, etc would be a really useful guide for a well-considered diagnosis of the problem.

hey mine wont start either? it was running perfectly fine...the battery seems to be connected properly and there seems to be power in the car because the head unit is working the tt is functioning.

But when i turn the key it makes some funny noise like a high pitch sound as if it was coming from the alarm/immobiliser. does anyone know what this could be?

i tried it again and it started! i fiddled around with the connections a bit and noticed there was heaps of acid build up on the terminal. but yeah i did forget that the mechanic said to replace the battery as there was a crack :O so i'll be getting my new battery tomorrow!!
