Hicks , if your new clutch is one of those nine buttoned purple ones, I think you'll find its actually brass, not ceramic .

Don't really matter cos the lunchmaster , err * Launchmaster * aka Rhino aka Ryan has got one in his R and hasn't killed it yet with redline 4wd clutch dumps so you should be sweet.

BTW , I installed mine, went straight to the malaga test track and launched off the limiter on one of my previous R's so bedding em in is not really an issue.

I wasn't trying to revive an already dead or potentially touchy subject, but these clutches are designed to handle high horsepower, what if they shit themselves within a month can you expect a free rebuild or not?

If they shit themselves within a month its probably your fault and you should think about an even tougher clutch or one from another company.

I wouldn't give a warranty on anything like that. I mean would you give a warranty to a guy who says " I am going to do my best to kill this clutch anyway I can, so can you give me a warranty mate?". If the clutch guy gives you a warranty he's lost his marbles. He won't know that I am going to do a burnout whilst towing a house on a trailer will he?

If you want to go faster than factory you will always break things For the enthusiast you will soon learn it is almost 99.99% of the time your fault for driving the car like it was intended. It's like those people who get race engines built and expect them to last without a rebuild for more than 2 years.

I was thinking more that they claim that it can hold 500hp, and yet with your 300hp car the clutch still gets fried. I think the claims by some of the clutch manufacturers are not really accurate, as I'm sure my twin-plate would not last long against 600hp.

Even Macka's clutch is shitting itself, and he only has 300rwhp. Should we expect a clutch rebuild every 9 months as par for the course?

It depends how you drive, how often and how you like the clutch to feel. If you like to drive your car hard then expect to kill the clutch some times and your gearbox and your diff and your fan belts and your brakes and uni joints and center bearings and just about anything else you rely on.

Group A cars have the toughest of this, that and the other and they blow stuff up and wear it out at alarming rates. Why should you think any differently? if you do then you just get more upset when things break than you need to.:D

I don't mind breaking things, I was fully expecting my factory clutch to shit itself, and it did. I do however get annoyed when you purchase something and it doesn't live up to its promise. I do hope that I won't have to change the gearbox for a while, as that would be very expensive.

As Ken said I got one of Ross's purple jobbies in my R and have had no dramas in about 2,000k's of driving, and that has included an MC day, Drags and a whole heap of spirited driving. I bedded it in for about 500k's and since then I think it is getting grippier!!!

And yes I believe I have done about 20 or so 6,000-7,500 launches with it. That has to be the equivalent of at least 40 GTS25t launches, simply because of the extra load a GTR puts through the clutch.

Trust Ross's work and the product he uses, the list of Sau people with his work in their cars is growing andit aint cause he does dodgy work.

I certainly wans't suggesting or implying that the work at any of the clutch places here was in any way not extremely good. In fact I was more having a go at the claims from the Jap manufacturers, whose claims of supporting 600hp is wildly over-optimistic.

I'm glad your clutch is still going strong, as is my twin-plate. I was just curious if these products which are designed for racing/drags have any warranty associated with them.

That is about right. The friction disc is $330, fitting $250, pressure plate around $220. or something. I only bought the friction disc.

Its definately a ceramic composite friction material. See below pic.

    • Hey guys. I have a 400R on its way to Australia from Japan currently and have a few questions I’m hoping others may be able to help with.   Wondering if anyone here has had any luck getting the Sat nav unit to work in Australia!? Assuming the Stereo is as simple as a band expanded and tv won’t work?  Seeing as they’re based off a Q50 which is Aus delivered is there any way to link that system to the nav? Nav modules and head unit are different part numbers and appear slightly different at the rear with plug ins etc. can I put my xtrail sd card into the rv37 and will that convert the maps or update to Australian? Has anyone got any advice here?     also has anyone fitted the factory remote start and Security system once it’s landed in Australia? I put an enquirey to Nissan Japan in via a third party, and they suggested it needs a Nissan Japan dealers device to setup and couldn’t guarantee if one here could do it or not. They can supply and I can physically fit it but to setup I would need a dealers device. Any information here would be appreciated also. I’ve seen one here with it fitted already prior to leaving Japan at a dealer/inporter, so clearly passes compliance and works when fitted Japan and doesn’t need changing here.      also, does the tyre inflation sensors work here? Does anything change with them when the vehicle arrives? Where are they actually situated? I’ve read they have batteries and they need to changing at times and seems like resetting involves the nav system?    any help here would be appreciated and any other aust specific information to help would be great. Looking forward to see what the current generation skyline is like and eager to see how many of the gadgets can be utilised here.  Thanks in advance 
    • Do need to take it with a pinch of salt. One of the adapter failures, they clearly had setup issues with the flywheel.  One of the slipping ones I spoke to and it was pretty clear the throwout was riding, rather than fix, just swapped to a new clutch.    These clutches are being put in anything from 5k offroad 4x4 beaters, GR yaris, 500hp commodores to 1200hp barra monsters. Bound to be some issues in some of them when they are not a simple bolt in affair due to the changes in height.    There is a lot going on in this picture and unless I did the job myself no way to tell what really happened. 
    • I did this mod in 2019  You just have to modify the top bracket of the ABS/TC/Fuel Pump Control ECU so it sits more upright and closer to the back seat and run a good quality positive battery lead from the engine bay, the negative lead i just bolted down to the body in the boot.
    • Damn... Not the feedback I want to hear.
