Hi

I'm in the process of taking my car over the pit next week, but I'm missing a spare tyre in the boot. Does any one know if it's compulsory to have a spare tyre in order to pass the pit inspection ??

Better yet, does anyone have a standard spare rim/tyre floating around that they no longer need :D ??

Also, anyone here FAILED a pit inspection ?? What the reason for the FAILED inspection ?? The reason I'm asking is that the exhaust on my car is rather noisy, and I'm a bit concerned that they might fail the inspection.

Anyway, a few more sleeps and they'll be another Skyline on the street ;)

Bye

Richard.

They didn't check mine for a spare tyre, but I may have been lucky.

You can Borrow my spare tyre if ya want to be safe.

I failed the pits because my tint was slightly to dark, air filter was a bit wobly, and indicatrors were tinted black.

You should be right with the exaust unless they flog it when they take it for a test drive. My exaust passed, and you can ask around, my exaust is pretty damn loud.

Simplelogik,

I would definately borrow a spare, you can have mine if need be, as they may look and will fail it without one. They don't believe you when you say "I'll go buy one straight away". The exhaust will most likely be checked, I think it needs to be less than 87db at a meter or some such bullshit, but it should be alright. You can always fit a silencer in the end before you take it.

Good luck with adding another Skyline on our roads.

You should borrow a spare wheel as its required for compliance and its other stupid things they pick on.

They failed mine first time up due to a crack in the exhaust just before the muffler (couldn't hear it but they found it) and they wanted some a/m fog lights completely removed - its not as if they were actually connected or working, mind you but they wanted them removed (we just tucked them under the front bumper in the end).

Apparently (and I don't know how true this is) but if you do fail then they can only re-check what you failed the first time to see if its fixed. They can't fail you again for other reasons.

A silencer :D ??? Not sure what's the size of my exhaust, but it's nearly as big as the rear lights, and it's way too loud for my liking. I've put in an amp and 12" sub and still could hardly hear it unless I turn it right up so that I can see my read window vibrate ..

simplelogik,

Yeah it goes into your exhaust tip and muffles the sound coming out, it also heavily restrict you exhaust airflow so I'd recommend taking it off once its complied. I have one for a 4" tip (I think), all you need is the small hole in your exhaust tip where the bolt goes through, most Jap system have them. You can borrow it if you want.

i failed the pits first time for alot of stupid things;

horn didnt work

park lights didnt work

steering rack boot cracked

too low

too loud

blow off valve

pod filter

external wastegate

cracked carbon canister

2-3 vacuum leaks

not good! took me about 3 weeks to get everything done. hint: go to east perth, theyre easy

Hi Adam,

Where did you failed ??? East Perth would be good as it's only around the corner from work.

Bye

Last time I went over the pits, I specifically asked them if I needed to carry a spare tyre and the inspector told me quite bluntly that they couldn't care less. "A spare tyre is only there for your convenience", he said.

So no need to worry about that :P

IIRC Adam, you failed at Welshpool right ?

East perth is props! They're easy... I've only heard one bad story out of 10 for east perth.
