Sniffy,

Yeah, just keep a bottle handy for the occasions when you can't get to a decent servo.

51Jay,

Thanks for the details on the location and price, what is your suggested mixing ratio, I've heard between 15-30%.

Giz01,

Couldn't they find a decent car to perform the test on?? Just kidding. I think it is sensible when racing to add it just for added protection.

Ait,

Your the one who has been running your car on 98+booster, notice any difference? Just means that we don't advance out timing as much as we would with 100RON fuels.

Everyone,

I don't like to get covered in any chemicals, whether cancer causing or not, just be sensible and don't sniff or drink it.

If the octane rating of Toluene is really 122 then adding

10% gives 100.4

15% gives 101.6

30% gives 105.2

I've decided to keep the tuning for BP 98 octane and add 10%

when racing on full boost as a hedge against detonation

51Jay,

Don't want to burst the buble but at 20% mix the RON improvement is +2.5 and 30% is the maximum recommended, therefore +3.7RON is the best your likely to get. This is taken from an article in a magazine and tested on a knock engine. This is still more than enough to protect you from detonation, therefore it is still worth doing.

Doesn't work like that I'm afraid, life would be so much easier if it did. The fact is you can't work it out. The only way to determine the RON(research octane number) is through the help of a $200,000 knock engine, which all oil companies use for testing of there fuel's RON.

Don't believe all of the bottles claims about there octane boosting ability either, the set there own scales which don't reflect well to real life. If you want guaranteed high octane then use an unleaded race fuel such as Elf or VP Motorsport Fuel 103, about 107RON, the highest you'll ever need to run in any normal car. With the higher octane you can advance timing and get more power also.

51jay,

Toluene is good stuff, if you don't mid premixing it, just remember not to drink the stuff, some of the other guys use it as mouth wash. Go figure!:bahaha:

thats cause we are tough, and have cast iron guts from drinking to much coke

Premium unleaded's like the BP Ultimate, Optimax etc. are supposed to provide better fuel economy due the increased fluid density. I don't know why an octane booster would improve the fuel economy, but if it does that's great. Not likely to offset the cost though at $20 per 60L.

Roughly,

The BP ultimate 98 stuff would be a closer guestimate due to it having the lowest % content of aromatics.

The mixture of 30% toluene to 70% BP98 will yeild an approximate RON of 105.

Well the tune up + Toluene must have done something. Just back from Willowbank. My previous best 14.8 dropped it to 14.3 good enough to cream 3 x commydoors including a HSV Club Sport 5.0LV8.......Skylines 3...commydoors 0 :)

14.3 @95, 14.6 @ 99.7 ?? 14.8 @ 91

Was very hot, Track temp 42' Iwas leaving after 4 runs at 6.15 pm when a few other Skylines were just arriving. In retrospect I should have stayed on and run acouple more when everything had cooled down a bit.

MRE Still behind you in the mph, just couldn't make the 100.

I'm really looking forward to Wed night though, should be pay off night

GTS-T V Spec :) and especially Club Sports that do huuuuuge burnouts :)
