Nismo32R
i notice a dramatic raise in both water and oil temp on the way back from vic market, so i quickly pull over to the side of the road....there was no leaking at all i open the cap with cloth......lots of steam coming out and no coolant in the radiator, which is unbelievable anyway, i managed to get few liters of water and pour into the radiator. this has quickly solved the temp problem (but still raising slowly) my question is: 1. is it normal to have bubles when you pour water into radiator??? 2. should i flash out all the coolant as i have seen some little dirt, dust or whatever it is in the radiator 3. i check the coolant about a month ago....and it was full.....so what cause the coolant to evaporate??? PS... i have got PWR 57mm aluminium radiator in my car thanks Daniel Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/71388-coolant-and-radiator-question/ Share on other sites
NZM.031
well, it sounds like you may have a busted head gasket, or cracked head...this is what we call..DRAMAS! think about it....if the radiator was full...and now its not...and its not leaking externally....that means its leaking internally. the coolant has to go somewhere, it doesnt just disappear. remove the sparkplugs and find radiator pressure tester. this is a tool that goes on the radiiator just like the cap and you can pump in the required pressure, when you get there, the guage will probably drop, and if you look in each cylinder, you will probs notice one filling up with coolant. not good. it is normal to have bubbles in the radiator, however, they should die down as the air gets bled from the system....but, if its constant bubbles like a spa jet, then that means combustion gas is going into the coolant system and blowing the water out. what does the oil look like?? any water in it?? any oil in the water?? if this is the case, its more likely a cracked head then a head gasket. hopefully, there is just a leak somewhere you have missed...otherwise the head will have to come off. cheers Linton Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/71388-coolant-and-radiator-question/#findComment-1316825 Share on other sites
predator
just for future ref.. in case you don't know.. cold water into hot engine + keep driving, can mean death to the engine... even if it was something else in the first place. The car really should be at near cold temperature to add cold water back into the system. Otherwise you are adding cold water to a hot system, which of course can crack the head on its own. Ronin 09
Dan, should keep away from tap water too... should only use distilled water. I think the alloy radiators are even pickier so maybe get benno to flush the coolant system and refil with alloy radiator friendly coolant Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/71388-coolant-and-radiator-question/#findComment-1321507 Share on other sites
