Hi Charlie.

I had a problem with my clutch not too long ago... I found that it was slipping when it came close to peak power, which started around 5,000RPM.... What happened was when I shifted from 2nd-3rd, redlining, the car would sit around 5,500rpm after shifting, and you would feel like ur rolling the same speed, but the revs still went up, but then the clutch eventually grabbed, and pulled car all the way to the end...

Thats basically when I knew my clutch was slipping. I just put in a heavy duty 6 puck clutch from Autosport @ Kirrawee (sydney) and now there is no more slippage :( 65% clamp load over standard :)

A good indication test of clutch slippage is to load the clutch up.

Say drive a moderately steep hill in 4th gear and if it the car starts free revving you know your clutch is shot. Drive up the hill at between 2 and 4k rpm is all you need.

Cheers.

thanx mr_g ye mines usually from second to third, how much do workshops usually charge to change clutches, and when you change the clutch what else must /should be changed while its already opened down there?

Usually you might want to lightly machine your flywheel when you do the clutch,as it could be slightly rippled from wear & tear of your current clutch. Fitment is usually around $300 I think.... Not too sure, but Autosport @ Kirrawee did a pretty good job for me.. Clutch hasnt slipped since i put it in 2 weeks ago... Awesome clutch!

Jimbo, forgot to mention, the above price included machining the flywheel.

How bad can a slipping clutch be?

I went to drift practice on the weekend and completelly @$ed up my clutch, It doesn't grab in any gear, I don't know how I got back home. You rev it and it goes right up and the car barelly moves.

Do you think it could be something else apart from the clutch or is it just that?

Im gonna get it checked on Thursday or Friday but any comments would be appreciated.

Picked up my Skyline on Friday afternoon which had just had a few mods done to it. More specifically, enough mods to take it from stock power to 240rwkw.

Went I sent it down there, I knew the clutch was not in the best condition. When I got it back, it would not boost in any gear except 1st and 2nd and like someone previously mentioned, you would floor it... revs would jump up but then at about 5k it would grab on and then pull the car to redline.

So it would slip, then grab. 2 hours after picking it up, the car wouldn't grab at all and I had to get it towed. Getting a heavy duty pressure plate installed this week though. Hopefully enough to keep me happy until I upgrade the whole thing :)

what sort of power you running? 202.2RWKW

how does it feel to drive? Awesome to drive, no slippage... When i shift down, its faster on slowing down aswell, as it grabs alot better... Sometimes slowing down at high speeds going from 3rd to 2nd, you get abit of compression lock up...

is it on/off or can you ride it a bit? Its basically on or off  You can try ride it, it wont let u that much, haha... You spin wheels trying to park it

it it insanely hard on your leg? Nope.... Not too bad actually, its not that much heavier over standard, however I havent really driven it through heavy traffic yet, but it seems to be doing fine.

Hope that helps :D
