Hey ppls.

I have a bit of a rant to have, so bare with me.

What is it with people always trying to get things for well below the resonable price or worth of the item.

Case 1.

2nd Hand parts in the forums.

Somebody is selling something, let's say a turbo off an RB25DET which can be fitted to an RB20DET which will give a pretty resonable power gain.

Seller is asking the resonable price of $500 for the turbo.

People then start bombarding the seller with ridiculous offers of around $150.

Then when the seller tells them that the price is far too low for that item, they leave some smart arse post and tell the seller he's dreaming.

IT P1SSES ME OFF.

Somebody is selling something for a price. Either pay that price or don't try to buy it.

Because I bet your arse when the people who offer the stupid prices sell stuff, they sure as hell don't accept super low prices for the goods they are selling.

Case 2.

2nd hand modified cars for sale.

Somebody is selling a car, much like Leewah potential 9 second GTR.

He's selling it for a price. This price is pretty damn resonable for a car of it's speed, quality and the amount of top shelf parts and labour that has been put into it. People will offer prices that wont even pay for the parts which have been added to the thing.

Try building the same thing for anything less.

IT P1SSES ME OFF.

Either buy the car or don't make idiots of yourself in offering stupid money.

If these people selling things has wanted to have their parts bidded for, they would have put them on EBAY!

This sort of thing is what is bringing the prices of our cars and our parts down.

This sort of thing has been bugging me for a while. I don't know what it is with people who think that everything is up for bargin. When somebody puts up a price, that's the damn price.

I'm sure I'm going to add to this thread as some stage, so let's hear from sellers and buyers about their experience and attitudes towards this sort of thing.

Oh, and just so you know.

When I'm selling stuff... The price I put on the item, it the only price I will expect or accept for that item.

END Rant.

Fair calls, I do agree that when people post negative comments like 'your dreaming on that price mate' piss me off badly. It hurts the sale as a whole.

However, some prices are meant to be haggled with. Take your example of $500 for the RB25 turbo, i mean, $150 is pretty stupid, but you could have someone who only has $400 and they're turbo has jus gone on their RB20! May as well make the offer and see if the seller is willing to take the $400 for a quick sale.

I remember when I tried selling my Series 5 Rx-7. It was an automatic, but it had 80,000k genuine and was in literally perfect condition and unmodified. It had a relatively easy life. I want $12 for it, and i got a few dumb sh*ts saying you can get a manual one with heaps of mods for that much! They could have at least PM'd me instead of messing the thread up.

lol

I wasn't intending to rant myself....honest.

I think its the growing trend / sadness in the import scene.. people who want everything without having to pay what they are worth. Things have changed, and I think there are a lot more tight ass kids around with imports who think that they can upgrade the car for next to nix.

I see it time and time again, people have no idea. Maybe there are some that get things for the "but my mate bought one for half that the other week" type prices, but they are few and far between.

And I sure as hell don't see some of the types of prices being offered on the forums anyhow, if that is an overall snapshot of the wider trading area.

I'm with you Bass.. it pisses me off seeing others getting their time wasted too. Sure you can have the attitude "if it doesn't effect you who cares", but if you have that attitude then no wonder the whole world is ****ed..

Bass Junky - I know what you mean.

Some people are just tight asses and expect to get bargins all the time, or they just like the though of bragging to their mates that they bought a $500 turbo for $150.

Even if your selling something super cheap just to help out a fellow SAU person, you'll always get someone offering an even lower figure and then getting the $hits when you say no thanks.

I was selling something one day for $150 locally cause it was a big item. Someone interstate wanted to buy it and I said fair enough, if you pay the postage it's yours. Then they got the $hits cause postage was $80 and I wouldn't pay for it.. Jesus, it would've been easier for me to give it away after I wasted my time taking it to the freight company, packing it up and paying for postage !

Fair enough trying to bargin the price down, but getting the $hits when the person isn't willing to take the $150 for the $500 turbo is just immature.

IT P1SSES ME OFF.

Hey man, great lookin' car, good luck with the sale. Oh and free bump :)

That's the post that pisses me off the most. I don't see the point of public praise for an item for sale. As if a potential buyer will be persuaded to purchase a particular car just because [insert username here] says it is a 'mad' car.

Thanks Bass, I've been wanting to get that out for a while now.

I think that most guys here are on a budget and will try to get a good deal. For me, I've always paid 90-100% of the advertised price. When you want a part, there are great deals on SAU, and fussing over $10, $20, $30 is a waste of time.

I wouldn't let it bother me. Sometimes i see people put in stupid offers and some times i see people asking way too much. At the end of the day law of supply/demand should sort everything out so that prices are fair. There are always gona be pepople trying for a bargain, it seems like most people selling stuff say that price is negotiable so obviously people are gona start with a low figure expecting to haggle a bit higher. If you offer something and say that its 'firm' then only an idiot would put in a low offer, don't let the idiots bother you cos they arn't the ones who will be buying anyway.

so true....everyone seems to want something for next to nothing these days. i usually take 20-30 bucks off the asking price as an offer depending on item and go from there. that way the seller doesnt feel like he's loosing much and i feel like i got a bargain:D:D we're both happy.

seller always want to get more for their goods and buyer always want to get more from their money.

bargaining is fine

as long as the action is going though PM but not post on the forum, which always ruin the sales.

nothing worse than selling a 500 turbo, someone offer 150, lot's of PM, accept it, and the buyer said he don't want it anymore...

yeah i'm down with you bass. If you can't afford the price stated, don't hijack the thread with ridiculous posts. If you got money problems, sort out a payment method via PM.

*For Sale SAFC2 - $330*

-> I'll give you $120 for it, right now!

WE'RE NOT IN ****ING BALI! WE'RE NOT IN A ****ING MARKET!

meh... I had guys try n haggle with me on the Jaycar group buy I organised... I mean... its brand new and about $30 less than retail already. I guess its just human nature to get the best value for your buck.

If it's been good enough for the last 5,000 years, why stop now??

bargaining is the underlying factor the laws of economics and natural market forces... demand goes up, price goes up... if people don't want to pay that much they won't...

granted, people should read the thread, if they don't want to pay the price, don't pay it... ask the seller if he is willing to go lower, but if he says no, leave it at that...

I don't think that is the main gripe.. its prices that are so completely out of the ball park that they are stupid, and an insult almost to the seller. It just wastes your time, and in the end you will just lower the price anyhow if it's not getting any enquiries and you want to sell, which is also market economics - you don't need to be told by some punk that.

We used to have people coming into where I worked and try the same and just expect you'd knock 50% off the price just like that. Do you go into the supermarket and try and bargain down the price of a box of cornflakes? Not exactly, you'd get laughed at.

The other thing is, I bet you wouldn't walk into a car dealer and have the balls to go right up to the dealer and say to his face "I'll give you half that sticker price you have there" and expect to have anything but "go **** yourself" thrown back at you.

I don't see what the anonymity of the Internet gives you much more of a different position there. It just lets people do what they don't have the guts to do in the "real" world.

If you had something for $50, and I offered you $40 for it, lets say you wouldn't take it because it was too low for you.

If however the only other offer you got was $15, then that offer I made of $40 seems a whole lot better.

Could just be a case of this being attempted on the forums, but I agree, a lot of people trying to squeeze as much out of their buck as possible, AND quite a few people who don't realise the true depreciation values of things. (eg people asking $500 for a second hand no-name intercooler which was quite a bargain when they bought it a year back, but these days with all the overseas direct suppliers poppin up $300 can get you a brand new one).

Hello

Bargaining is and will be a way of life but to badmouth someone because they won't sell to you for a cheaper price is just being an arsehole.

I have seen cases where not even a buyer has made comments, stay out of it, if it is too pricey that is the sellers fault and he probably won't sell it so leave it at that
