Hey Guys,

My cars speedo sometimes gets a bit enthusiastic when I start the car after its had a chance to cool down etc.

It seems to be displaying 10x the speed until the car is warmed up and i've turned it on and off a few times, tried disconnecting the battery etc.

I'll be chugging down the road at 22km an hour and it will be showing 220km/hr!!

It only does this occassionally first thing in the morning and once the car has warmed up it starts working again.. what could it be? Why x10???

Thanks :)

Hey Pentae...long time no speak!!

Mate...not sure if these things are cable driven (?)

Get that established first, that way you may just have to 'shake' or play (gently) with the wires behind the speedo!! (intermittent connection????)

anyways, I'm interested in this thread!!

If they are the same as the rb25 box then the speedo drive is electrical, no cable drive :)

mark: Hey mate, thanks i'll give that a go!

blur: the speedo head? is this easy for me to get at? how would I test it?

the reason i'm asking for first hand experience is I dont want some clueless auto electrician to replace everything including the gauge clusters before finding out whats actually wrong with it.. :P

like all japanese cars, the odo has been tampered with, would that have anything to do with it

its tricky to get to the back of the instrument cluster, but not impossible. ull have alot of fun if you like pulling a apart the dashboard. the little motor thing (or its regulator thing) is probably farked. in the short in have no idea how to fix it, have a look at the wiring for anything obvious...electrics are tricky so dont screw around too much. id use this as an excuse to get some aftermarket cluster..and use the old gtr ones as a desk ornament. :( i have one, and i have no idea what car it is from :P

racsov500: Thats cool, i'll see what I can find. I appreciate any help anyone can give me.

I've found that the problem goes away after I let the whole car warm up by putting around under 30km/hr for a few minutes, then turn the car off for a few minutes.

When I restart it it works, but will not start working again unless I turn the car off for more than a minute.
