Hi guys just wondering would a single turbo from the 300zx perform better on my RB20 over a RB25 turbo? I also heard a rumour that the 300zx turbo has a steel exhaust wheel standard? I know the RB25 turbo is a direct bolt on to the RB20 but does the 300zx have the same 6-bolt pattern dump pipe flange or would I have to get a new dump pipe?

Cheers.

Also I know the R33 turbo is ball bearing what about the VG30DET is that ball bearing aswell? any help on this topic would be great or even if this topic has been covered before can someone direct me to the thread.

Thanks

Well I have an RB25 turbo (yes it's ballbearing) on my RB20 and it goes great. I see full boost around the 3000-3100 RPM mark, and holds boost and power all the way to redline.

Have heard that the VG30 turbo is a bit laggier, but will produce a bit more power.

RB25 turbos are 110% ball bearing. Can any one answer my questions more specific like does the VG30DET have a steel exhaust wheel standard? Will the standard RB20 dump pipe bolt straight up? Even better if anyone has used a VG30DET turbo on the RB20 and has any feedback would be good and the same with the RB25 turbo, I’ve also been told because there are a few different RB25 turbos some are better then others? Which series RB25 turbo would be the best upgrade for the RB20?

Thanks

Ok i THINK the series 1 r33 turbos have steel wheels, spool up alil later but can hold more boost. Im not 100% sure on this but i have one thats got a steel wheel sittin in my room :)

Series 2 and r34 turbos are definatly not steel wheels!

All the R32, R33 & R34 turbo's have ceramic exhaust wheels.

R32 and Series 1 R33's run steel or what ever metal it is compressor wheels.

The Series 2 R33 and R34's run the 'plastic' compressor wheel.

VG30DET turbo's come in 3 Flavours.

Old school VG30DET non-BB full steel (comp & exhaust).

Old school VG30DET non-BB steel comp but ceramic exhaust.

The new VG30DET that are sourced from the jap Leopard's & Cima's make 190kw at the flywheel. These are BB have steel comp wheels and ceramic exhaust wheels.

On the RB20DET I would use the RB25 turbo over the VG30 turbo any day.

The VG30 turbo has an ever so slightly smaller comp wheel but much larger exhaust a/r compared to the Rb25 turbo's. Obviously this is not what you want on a little 2ltr.

The car will make much more average power with the Rb25 turbo.

I've had a BB VG30DET turbo on my RB20DET, never again for the amount of extra lag and loss of mid range response.

The RB25 turbo is a nice balance and have been known to make up to 190kw at the wheels on the rb20det's with 14psi or so.

Not including the VG30DET turbo's, the R32 turbo's appear to be the toughest then the series 1 r33. R34 & Series 2 R33 turbo's appear to fail a little easier when pushed.

I have a BB VG30 on my RB20. It is laggy. I don't like it too much, but it sounds cool and is fun when it comes on (comes on kinda quick).

What I particularly don't like is the fact that the 'snorkel' on the compressor outlet does not do a 90 degree bend. Does anyone know If I can put an RB25 elbow on the VG30 comp cover? Are the comp cover outlets the same? Can I put a RB25 comp cover straight onto my VG30 so that I get the neat right angle I am looking for?

Thanks
