Hi Guys,

hopefully someone can answer this fairly quickly,

i need to replace my rear speakers, and i was wondering how to get the grills off, i am hoping you don't have to remove the whole rear parcel shelf.. how does it remove anyway, assuming the rear seats are already removed, does it just clip on?

thanks guys

I've got some pics I took when I took out my parcel shelf in my gtst - same as a gtr?

I got cranky trying to get the parcel shelf out and snaped both ends. There are 2 white clips you can see in the above photo that you need to deal with to remove the shelf.

Be careful on each edge of the parcel shelf (I think you have to push down at the edges to do it properly - I just pulled and ripped it out).

Hi Y0880,

Since the last photo was useful I edited one of the ones I took of the rear seat with parcel shelf removed . You will notice there is yellow where the teeth Akeenan mentioned are - from memory it looks like a tiny single fin from a surf board. This goes into the parcel shelf where I have circled with yellow - if you look hard you'll notice that the slot on mine has been ripped.

The two red circles are where the two white clip type things are. After removing the back seat I got my fingers under the parcel shelf near the middle and pulled it up which worked... maybe there is a better way?

good luck with it, hope it helps you and other people.

  • 2 weeks later...

Can you repost those pix, they've been removed from the server...

Wouldn't mind getting a look as sometime I'll have to remove the same to install some new speakers in..don't want to stuff the parcel shelf and have to build a new one (time/money) :P

Well,

Pulled the parcel shelf out finally today, and it was a little different to your pics, basically there where a few metal wire clips holding it at the rear (near the bottom of the glass), two bolts for a child restraint anchor point, and two fins from the plastic cover on the C pillar that went into the rear parcel shelf..

Got most of the shelf off, but couldn't for the life of me get the right corner out.. finally after a bit of tugging it came out, but i managed to rip the thin bit of parcel shelf off at the back behind the breather grills.. so have to work out a good way to stick them back on..

So's life :P

Ok, i'll put those pics back up now.

Those metal clips near at the rear didn't seem to do anything so when putting it back i didnt bother with them. I guess the guys that did the compliance work with the child restraints didn't bother with them either.

You ripped the parcel shelf like I did with those fins :) Its a bastard of a thing especially with this hot weather + the frustration that builds up over something as trivial as this.

Good luck with your parcel shelf predator666, see if you can get the it off without ripping it.

yeah, it doesn't look too bad though, didn't rip the carpet completely off so hopefully when i add some sound deadener it will hold things together..

I know what you mean about frustration.. it isn't as bad as other cars i have worked on (Holdens are probably the worse so far), but hours in cramped confines never helps :)

i will post up some pics when i get it back all together, probably a few days away yet though..

Good luck with your parcel shelf predator666, see if you can get the it off without ripping it.

hehehe...well i will give it a good try! But I need some rears to fit in first before I get the willpower up to try and take it out... much as it sucks, just going stockie speakers for now through my new face unit 'till i can get some nice ones. Thinking alpine.

I put some pioneer speakers in for the rear. I also had to remove the stock rear speaker mounts and make my own because the speaker screw holes didn't match up to the aftermarket speaker.

You will also have to do something similar to me out of MDF if you want your future alpine or whatever speakers to fit.

Happy New Year.
