hopefully if i make a diy kit then itll be easy enough to build yourself if uve soldered anything before

if the first two on the interested list havent contacted me back by the end of the weekend then the interfaces will be available for the last two on the list (including d00dz if ur interested)

by the way, this will be the last lot for a while (uni assignments/exams coming up) - at least till july. then ill also be looking into making custom pcb so that i can make a kit for others to put together themselves, to save me time (and theyd cost less obviously for u to put together yourself)

they take too long for me to do them all, especially when i have more exciting things to move on to (including pocketpc consult software).

Wouldnt mind one of those DIY kits :rant:

Got mine yesterday and had a quick play last night in the garage. The interface works and the software (Nissan DataScan) is awesome. The display mode is great im going to buy a second laptop to keep in the car now :P

Couple of neat features i havent tried out yet tho like the 0-100 time trial test. Should be interesting.

pending payment on last interface - wont be making any more personally in near future, but once i get my new pc going hope to have time to get started on that custom pcb for a diy kit version. thanks to everyone who's bought one and hope you're all happy, any problems dont hesitate to throw me a pm.

if anyone is making them of their own accord i can supply any parts you need (just youll need to do the pcb/box etc yourself). i havent checked properly but parts (minus pcb/box) excluding consult plug would be around 15, consult plug/pins + 20$. think ive still got enough parts for about 5-10 more (havent checked)

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I have a question about the display in Nissan DataScan.

On the Datascan Home page, it shows a map tracing with numbers in blue and red squares.

From memory, there is one for timing, and one for fuel, although they're not both shown on the page. What do they mean?

It seems to work OK for my car, I just want to know the difference between the blue and red squares and what the values in them mean.

best bet is to probably chuck an email to the author and ask.

theres the "current cell" which is blue or something when ur car is running to show u where in map u are. then theres typically the rest being a single colour, except for a bunch which are a diff colour (in a square section) and have values +180 or something to the rest. i think this is the knock map (ie the region in which the map differs when using the knock map, not that u are always using the knock map, most of the time ur using a value -180 or whatever of that knock map value, just easier to put both maps on same diagram im guessing, but i dont know much about maps)

NewKleer - In your setup of the cable, what is the point of the "black box"? I've seen commercially made (also expensive consult cables) that do not have a box in the cable. Do these ones have that cicruitry built in somewhere, just don't need it for Nissan's or are used for some other function?

the box is the circuitry to interface between the signal levels that the laptop expects over rs232, and the native signal levels/types setup for the consult computers to interface with vehicles.

the blazt interface (someone in nz makes them) has the circuitry built into the serial connector hood (under the plastic). other cables may not be consult cables but may be OBD1/2 cables and therefore im guessing (havent checked) they dont need any circuitry.

I would DEFINITELY be interested in getting the list of required components and a circuit schematic (if you have one that is). Don't need the PCB or box and will source all the parts and solder it all up myself.

I have modified the PLMS Rev3a interface circuit schematic so that it matches the one the NewKleer was making for a few members.

I will be making one for myself in the next few days with a experimenters board, and all the parts are easy to source except for the consult interface. For anyone who has done their research, the consult connectors are very hard to find so here's a link for a DIY one (made from ATX power supply connector) http://www.tangentrix.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=532

thanks for that. all parts except consult plug and 2.457mhz crystal available from jaycar. wiltronics have the 2.457 crystal. an alternative is a 4.9mhz crystal (see schematic) which mearcat says are available from altronics resellers (http://www.altronics.com.au/index.asp?area=deal)
