How can you tell if your engine has been changed from the original factory unit ?

Is there anywhere on the car which shows the original engine number ?

i dont think so man... there is a little strip of something that sticks onto the front part of your radiator (Matt was pointing it out), if thats missing then odds are its not the original engine.

also there is often a kind of paint, painted on the engine mount bolts (usually white) and if its broken then they've unbolted the engine from its mounts for some reason. you'll see that paint all over you car.
