Everyone has a lead foot from time to time, i claimed id be a behaved driver and drive carefully, but you don't buy a sports car unless you plan of putting it thru its paces.

I beleive i am a good driver, but i have done some silly things since i got my car a month n a half ago and you do learn from these!

Even in my mums daewoo cielo i put the pedal down, but the experiance i got from the year n a half driving that before i got my skyline greatly helped..

I'm not saying don't buy a quick car, i did and some may think its foolish, but its one of the best decisions i think i've made, just know your limits and your cars.

well said Rylan, i also belive that driving is alot about attitude, although i am still on my L's i have driven countless amounts of hours in countless amounts of cars, with lots of different suppervising drivers in every different variable that there is for weather from snow, black ice roads, fog, wind, rain, dark, endurance driving, you name it.

trying to keep my self from sounding like a dick and being c0cky, i truely belive im a good driver and that i have the skill to drive a high performance vechicle (as i do and have done every single day for the last 2 months) with out any hassle in that department, yet i still admit i have alot more to learn, but dont we all, you never stop learning.

anyways that leads me to atitude, i bought my car because yes i do like acceleration, i like a car that can handle well especially at high speeds, and i like a car that has a fair bit of grunt and power, allthough i have wittnesed first hand what abusing this can do as ive seen from family and friends who have come out of situations slightly less lucky then most.

im a strong believer of the "theres a time and a place" theory, and also im not prepaired to potentially waste something i have drained my blood, sweat and tears into over the last 3-4 years just to show off to my mates, or anyone for that fact, so starioturbo, i resent your comment about my parents being irresponsible.

i have no need to drive fast one the roads anyways, i'd like to keep my life and lisence (when i get it) thank you very much :)

i never put my self in a position where i need to speed because i make sure im never late in the first place, i value my safety over not being late anyhow.

and i do know that i dont have to prove to you that im worthy or even if its appropiate for me to have this car, but thats because i dont really care what you think :) sorry mate, allthough i thought i'd provide some light justification anyway

im also glad my thread turned into a mess about insurance, power to weight ratios, and morals. *rolls eyes*

just like to add that one of my main points of view on this is inforced by the fact that i have been a part of the car enthusiests scene (other car related sites as both members and moderators)for many years, and i am discusted everytime i see a hoon documentery on today tongiht, and generalisations made by the wider public about our hobbies and interests.

and i certainly wouldnt do anything to decrease our allready low standing within the community, as i am told every skyline and his dog is a hoon anyways i think this will be enough.

anyone that wants 5 mins of thier life back from reading thism just e-mail me and i'll send you the monetry equivalent in the mail :)

I totaly think its irresponsible of Parents to allow a L plater and the young driver to drive a high powered car. Im not jealous, hell, Ive owned over 8 cars including over 4 high performance turbo vehicles, but I look back to when I first got my license and my first turbo car which was a starion turbo, and I look back and think how scary and how fast that car was. The fact is, when you get ur license and ur driving a high powered vehicle, ur gonna do some stupid shit, probably hurt yourself or someones loved one. Ive been driving for 4 years and Ive owned a string of 12 second cars yet I still think ive got a lot more to learn. You guys can say what you want that you will be safe etc, but the bottom line is, you wont.

I dont think I wudve kept myself from injury if I owned a high performance vehicle when I just got my license, you have no feeling for the road or how the car could react, even after me going to so many driving courses in WA, competing in Autokhanas and climbs, I have a lot to learn. My suggestion is to you guys, sell your cars, buy a cheaper, less powerful car and learn how to drive properly before stepping up to a more powerful car - Maybe Im getting old, but I never understood why some parents didnt let there kids drive turbocharged cars when they got there licenses - i thought they were idiots and I used to tell them, who cares you can still hurt urself in a excell - but after a few years of driving I realised what they meant. High performance cars are deadly weapons.

I SO DO NOT AGREE WITH THIS!!! What you said is harsh.

No offence but...

So what you’re trying to say is that only YOU are a safe P-plate driver??? :bs!:

How come you don't sell your car and buy a civic since you are a P plater and what your saying is that L-platers and P-platers don’t have enough road experience. Why don't you take your own advice?

The thing is, you never stop learning on the road. Even top race drivers make mistakes no matter how much track practice they have had.

you dont buy a high powered vehicle to drive like Miss Daisy,

with that much power under your foot u are going to hammer it, if u dont use it... sell ur car and buy something else, theirs no point preaching on a forum how sensible ur going to be, cause u wont be, ull speed on the roads and obovusly ull do stupid shit hopefully ull be lucky enough not to crash or lose ur license before u do,

Good Luck,

are u a good driver if ur still on ur L's? how do u know , u been on the track? raced go karts? done any track work or driver training courses?

street is different to track obvously, it all helps though, but it takes one mistake and ur ****ed,

Sigh. All I can say is I tried and that sorta attitude wont get you far. Skill? have you been in a performance car when its rolled? Have you slammed into a pole at over 100 kmh in the wet? Have you slid into a curb and bent axles and broken wheels? Have you run head on into a tree? Have you experienced what causes that? I have been in Vehicles at the time these things have happend (i wasnt the driver) and I can tell you thats what happens when an inexperienced driver thinks they know it all. After experiencing all this, after doing proper track days and after doing all the crazy stuff that you can possibly be done in cars - it still doesnt mean shit. Different cars, different road condition, different situation and all a high powered car does is make this worse!

Missrb25det!

Ive had license for 4 years. Just cos I moved states and still am on my Ps doesnt mean much. The fact of the matter is I waited until I was 19 to get my first high powered Import. Thats almost 3 years, Not 3 days.

So there you go.

I don't want to offend you in any way but how can you judge someone you don't know? 4 years driving experience is shit all too, seriously. Don't tell me you don't make mistakes, we all do. What you said about parents being irresponsible is inappropriate I believe. Look, if the guy thinks he will be safe then good luck to him and support him to be safe. But comments like you made only get people angry. No matter how much track experience you have, it will still not prepare you for what the road is going to throw at you. I understand your point and you are entitled to it, some points you are right as the fatality of young drivers in high powered cars is terrible but don’t generalise that every young driver is an idiot on the road.

missrb25det

I dont want to offend you either but I do have a point.I know you are a sensible driver and all, but for the majority of others this is not the case when you buy a high performance car. Theres no need to get angry, True 4 years is **** all, but being constantly living eating breathing and going in high powered cars for the past four years, learning to drive 4WD since I was 14, doing a bit of driving on stations in old bombs and learning how a car controls does mean something, and Its made me have a mature and logical viewpoint about this issue. I dont care WHAT any P plater thinks of me or what I should be doing, Ive stated a fair opinion and its some food for thought for the young people that are looking at getting a high powered import.

I got a powerful car at 19 AGAIN because I had my license for a few years and In Perth it wasnt Illegal to drive one and theres less traffic there and its a bit more safer.

Im not arguing with anyone, so please dont try and flame me down, just expressing my opinion. take it or leave it

Kind regards

Kim

Blade: I agree you don't by a performance car to drive like miss daisy, but I'm not buying one to fang on public roads either. I'm really keen to get my CAMS when I get my P's and do as much driving as track driving as possible as well as all the other training that I mentioned before. Like starionturbo said there is a whole lot of skills I don't have so I don't really want to be pushing my limits on public roads.

Does everybody just turn into a hoon when they get their P's? I can't see myself instantly turning into a hoon the second that I get my P's but right now I feel really strongly about not being stupid on the road and all the crap the drivers of imports seem to cop from the general public and police.

I'm not trying to argue either Kim/Blade, I think that many people that are driving high performance imports should't be, but at the same time I feel that there are people out ther that can be tursted with them.

Kim: in your orginal post, you where talking about how you used to say anybody can hurt themselves in an excel etc etc.. Don't read this like I'm flaming or anything because I'm only asking.. but what changed your mind to make you think that more grunt is more dangerous.. as you know pieces of crap can make it past 120k's quite easily.

ohk guys, i can see this is getting quite heated,

the matter of fact is that sure everyone has done stupid things, and im sure people will continue to do stupid things, coz we all know internet threads doesnt change a thing lol.

but for the time being im going to keep my car :), and im going to go forward onto my p's with a safe, positive perspective on driving.

i think thats about all i can do for now, and allthough alot of you think its wrong, and that i shouldnt have my car, i'm going to enjoy it, enjoy driving it and even washing it every week end that i do

coz its my pride and joy and i really don't want to sell it.

so thanks for everyone who has posted, i hope no one was affended, especially you starionturbo, if you though i was flaming you or having a go at you :)

and i hope t see you all out and about, and posibly at some cruises and meets in the future

rite oN bro!

my first shag mobile was a '93 corolla, 1.8lt, shure it didnt stand aganinst 180's n DC2 integs, but hey, least for all the shat ive learnt, im glad it was in that car. now i got me a 32 gtst n i can honestly say im a safer (if not better) driver than 1/2 the blokes.

also... if i was on 3rd party insurence, n say i hit sumone in my 32 thats over the power to weight crap, wud the insurence company still cover the damage ive done to the other car?

Glad to see some people realise what Im saying.

Its just one of lifes experiences, and these people will learn even if they dont want to listen to me - and I totaly stand up to what I have said.

To be honest! I think if I had a nice import first off I wudnt have had even 1/4 of the Fun I had in my other cars!

Take it easy guys

...learning to drive 4WD since I was 14, doing a bit of driving on stations in old bombs and learning how a car controls does mean something

who teaches a 14 year old how do drive when it is illegal in all states in Australia and the world for all i know. correct me if im wrong. The issue with this is that 'childrens' parents/guardians who teach them to drive 4wd or any car at the age of 14 increases the likely hood of the child taking the car for a joy ride risk killing themselves and others. Its been on the news stacks of times.

To be honest! I think if I had a nice import first off I wudnt have had even 1/4 of the Fun I had in my other cars!

You just proved the point that you can be dangerous/reckless in any type of car not just an import.

If this is not the type of 'fun' you mean than clarify this statement.

Used to Live in outback WA at the time, we were actually taught at school to drive when we went out to stations. We were also rebuilding our own cars for Manual arts at the time. Also used to go out on tracks 4WDing. Thats not on the public roads and its not illegal as far as I know.

Fun when I say is cruising around enjoying myself with my freinds and not looking behind my back for the next cop thats gonna defect, fine and hassle me.

I find it ridiculous how you can sit there and try and pull apart what I have said and try to find faults in it. Use your time more constructively.

you guys make some interesting points here....

i do agree partially with you Starionturbo, in your previous post you have said "The fact is, when you get ur license and ur driving a high powered vehicle, ur gonna do some stupid shit, probably hurt yourself or someones loved one". i understand that once people do get their p plates....a lot more stupid shit happens, unfortunatly thats how it is sometimes. i cant say that im the perfect driver, ive done my amount of stupid shit over the years since ive owned my r33, i do know now that its fairly pointless and i shouldn't have done it, lesson learnt i guess. i have however owned my r33 since i was 17 and it has been a learning curve since then..and yes, i have learnt some things the hard way heh. but if you take these kinda cars away from the drivers at a young age, how will they learn? yes, you can work on the assumption that people get smarter and wiser once they get a little older....but speaking realistically and looking at the drivers on our roads, i dont see that too often. A p plater having a turbo car with no experience with these kind of performance cars.....someone off their p's in the same situation...what is the difference?

i personally think the more experience people get with these cars the better it is. obvously, no one wants drivers to use their cars as weapons and to see people hurt/killed because of stupid shit. true, it comes down to the attitude of the driver, and some people never grow up. any car can be used as a weapon, its a sad fact. things like driver training should be enforced, not this bs rules where people cannot drive at a specific age

...rant over

    • Hey lads, reviving an old thread.  As an update, since the last time replied to this thread, ive done mostly suspension. Havent touched the motor except for maintenance. Though upon changing spark plugs, found out i had splitfires pre-installed! Updates: - Got me some stock airbox top cover and snorkel to fit onto the original intake. Should be free of defects - Bought a set of R34 GT-T brakes (not installed yet, going to rebuild + respray in champion blue + white 'Nissan' text) - Bought the last set of bilsteins from @Sydneykid and had them installed. Has been making some sounds on the rear but hopefully should be sorted out after this New Year break. - Regreased front caster rod bushings (poly bushes..) - Rear upper camber arms - Whiteline sway bars (BNF27Z 22mm + BNR11XXZ 24mm).  The rear sway bars are a bit short (ive read 50mm else where) but was still able to get them in.  Anyhows, I reckon suspension is sorted now. Maybe replace bushes (do have a set of front upper control arms from SK not installed yet) but should be okay for now. From now, I'm wanting to start working on the motor, drivetrain etc etc. Still debating on the order to go on and what to buy etc but: - ECU ( Haltech or Link ( Link states that it dont support A/T or AWD functions... Can anyone attest to this? ) - Highflow turbo ( ATR43ss2 ) - Intercooler ( Not decided yet, but cant find many good afoordable ones. Toshi says to opt for crossflow Japanese. Bit difficult this one, unless I get a returnflow Blitz from JJ? ) - Injectors ( Any recommendations ? I do have a nismo FPR ( Thanks SK ) ) - Seats - Tune by either Toshi or DVS To be fair, I did consider just keeping the stock turbo and nistuning it. Sat in a mates stock N, that had something like 200kw, and I reckon that felt more than enough. Maybe I should just go this route ahhaha. Too many choices.... Planning a trip down south, so wanting to just clean things up and make sure it gets to and from in one piece. Anything else specifically I should do before ? Cheers lads
    • Must be for the car’s lucky charm 🤷🏽‍♂️ She runs fine, but it just seems to take about 1L less. Maybe I’ll have the oil sump dropped at some point to check if there is anything
