Just a prediction?

Didn't it say guys that all aftermarket parts are to be destructed and a certification of destruction of the parts is needed until the car can be sold?

They might eventually find a way around this but ummmm it may take a little while i guess......

"For example, a Skyline with an expensive APEXi exhaust, BOV and airpod would have these removed during compliance, the perfectly good parts would have to be destroyed, destruction certificates provided"

there would be a way around it in due time. Possibly the importer getting the stock parts fitted before taking the car to the compliance workshop - therefore no evidence of the aftermarket parts being on there - unless its heavily modified.

It will always cost more, with parts and labour having to be a large expense.

destruction of hotpart

i dont think so

the rta/government wont check any cars when they come into the contry so you just remove your hot parts and then comply the car standard

this is assuming that your car made it throught the warf without having the hot parts removed already

pete

I would say customs will be in on it with FORS etc.. when they do the inspection at the docks.. too heavily modified not allowed to pick up until returned to stock etc or refused entry. I know if FORS suspect a car to be damaged they can ask for photos to be taken before import approval is granted. they may do the same if they suspect a car is modified.

also they may get in with local rego authorities I know some vic roads branches have been taking photos of cars with big turbos etc when they are presented for registration.

there will not be back doors for anyone after spending shitloads to get RAWs for spending 60 grand up and there will be a total of maybe 6 Australia wide to start off with I doubt anyine will take shortcuts and risk losing this. Plus the audit trail is very tight, you have to have documented receipts for everything and I mean everything for original parts used etc...

only way I can see is get parts removed in japan and shipped separately. if the compliancer has been seen to have any inolvement in the fitment of those parts then I would say they will be dead meat. of course once car has been complianced and regoed nothing to stop you from getting the parts you have shipped in from japan fitted. there will however be the cost of the removal of the parts in japan and the labour to fit them here again.. Maybe in Japan as someone else said more parts will be removed and sold off before the car gets to auction and we will no longer see so many modified cars come up for auction.. used to see them all the time seem to be rarer and rarer lately can't remember last time saw a 180sx or GTR with a big turbo etc.

all in it farks everything for the peformance enthusiast. looks like the gov wants us all to drive slow boring shitboxes

I'd say that will be exactly what will happen. Parts get removed before they even get into australia. Accordingly the price will go up to pay for the removal/refit of standard parts. They either go straight back on again via a separate shipment, or you get a steady supply of aftermarket parts.

In a way I can see they maybe think they are trying to do good in that it stops so many cars which could have possibly dodgy jobs done on them and you know if its standard it may not have parts which might otherwise reduce the life of the car/engine (big turbo, parts fitted incorrectly, etc)... but really it will be the end buyer that suffers.

Unless you drive an aussie shitbox like an SS commodore where the power goes up each time on each model, but of course that is okay according to them. I don't know whether there ever has been much evidence to directly suggest modified cars are involved in accidents more than standard ones when you take away other factors (speed, drink driving, no seat belts, etc).

Man all i can say . excuse the language is its ****ED !!!!!

Yes you can. Voice your disgust to your local federal member.

I just went past a dealer's today; the last time I looked in his yard was about 7 weeks ago, and he has put up the price of his R32's from $19500 to $22000 (Wilson's Classic Cars, Southport).

Of course, those figures are the usual trade-in and finance deal - not the no trade and cash deal - but they have still gone up.

Dino, once we get organised, I think the club should take an active role in organising this sort of feedback - it is for the benefit of all members.

We might aswell live in coldwar 1950's russia than here with all the crap they go with, speed camera's,car mod laws making it tough for car enthusists like us,and the list goes on

i think getting something organised is the way to go. Get everybody, skylines, supras, silvias, soarers, anyone in the import scheme. Do what Geoff says, start a petition, get a document together so we can let those absolute f*ck nuts in canberra know that all they are doing is making life easier for our local car produces to make even shitter quality cars. Simple economics. If you increase the barriers to entry to a particular market, competition decreases, monopolies/ogliopolies are made and the consumer has no say what so ever in quality or price. This is demonstrated in the laws about modding cars, and the very, very limited number of workshops which will actually be R.A.W.

I'm fairly new to all this, been on here since about august, but I WILL be getting a R34 next year and there is not a snowball chance in hell i can get it before the new laws come in, so I really want to do something about this. I'm am offering to help organise this thing to get off it's feet.

cheers.

on another note, if i import a pretty much stock R34 next year, will compliance be just ridiculously more expensive than it is now?

As I see it:

The only ways to get the attention of Canberra is to point out to them that the cost to Police these stupid new laws is not worth the resulting benefit ...

Or

That the cost of 'loss of' local industry (importers, compliancers, brokers, performance shops) will be detrimental to the local Australian economy.

My question is : "What is the resulting benefit of these new laws ? And to whom does the benefit go ??

* Local Manufacturer ??

* Local Supply ??

* Loss of local industry (modifiers) ?

* Competition ?

* The comsumer

*NOT*

The Government ....*maybe*

It's all BS - there are also other implications that are noteworthy:

* Restriction of Trade by the G'Ment

* Anti Compeditive behaviour (on the G'Ments behalf)

Remember people - Number One rule in business " The customer is always right" - Now if we have 200,000+ potential customers in Australia, that will generate local business, then we have something significant to say

Some pundits may say that these rules will GENERATE local business - I say BS, the local performance shops will suffer because there will be many less ppl importing, therfore not as many additional mods being done. Not only that - it will be the more affluent ppl who are getting local mods done. The standard Joe Blow like you and I will not be able to:

A) Afford to import in the first place

B) Let alone afford to mod a stocker later on

All performance car clubs (inlcuding SAU) should bandit together as the weight behind the force of members is more significant in terms of leverage to these stupid rules,, than if the individuals lobbied independantly

My 0.02c worth ......

I say RIOT!

bugger gettin the cars complianced and rego'd at all... lets just go crazy and **** the gov off :lol:

i will be importing a stock standard yellow R33 GTR next year and i know it will be after the new laws come into affect but damn this will just make everyhting longer and for $ consuming for everyone

i can just see that cops will get more power under their belt. the gov will only allow stock standard cars be on the roads and the cops will have the rights to say whether they think its stock or not and to give a canary

its time to start mafia wars with the government peepoles!
