Is your cat in good condition ?

The only way flames should be coming through the exhaust is if, for whatever reason, you no longer have a cat.

Backfiring can be explained by the BOV (Which I assume is Atmopsheric?), but the flames means your exhaust ain't exactly legal...

yeh i just went get it checked nuffffin wronng wif my cat bak and car ..the dude just said that its the fuel compestion i think i neeed a power fc ecu! how much do they cost???

too much petrol going though makes the car backfire and skyline stock ecu dectects all diffrent signals thats why i think the stock one cant handle it =/ NEed A power fc ecu ! any one know how much it cost? and where to buy it from?

Apexi PowerFC & Hand Controller - Buy from www.Nengun.com

For R33 GTS-T series 1&2

I just bought mine for $1018.00 delivered to Melbourne,Victoria. There might be a little wait, as it will come directly from Japan & they just finished holidays over there.

I havn't seen them anywhere cheaper, unless you buy second hand. Some people on the forum might have one for sale.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Chris

yeah... i thought it might have been because your ar is running rich!! the excess fuel is just been released through the exhaust, and it backfires casue the fuel ignites when it hits the hot exhaust pipe and air........ or am i making all that up!

Raw fuel is very bad for the CAT, it will melt and clog the cat in no time at all and you will have a restriction and loss of power.

The cat holds alot of temperature and when raw fuel hits it, it ignites and melts it.

All this will happen if you have an atmo bov, the AFM measures the air going through the BOV, thinking its going into the engine when it isn't, puts in fuel, and naturally overfuels and goes straight into the exhaust.

People don't think of this though, if they have some noise from a atmo bov for wankfactor thats all that seems to matter.

1. Plumb your blow off valve back into your intake pipe. If your BOV can't be plumbed back then I would suggest you put the Standard Blow Off Valve back on the car.

2. Get a new CAT fitted. Sounds like your one is stuffed or you don't have one at all. Carline Mufflers in Gladesville can supply you a very nice, proper high flow CAT for around $500. Well worth the money.

3. Get your O2 Sensor & Injectors Cleaned. Grey Imports in Annandale is good for this.

4. Clean your Air Flow Meter by removing it and spraying the contact inside with Contact Cleaner

5. Take your car to a Nissan dealer with a Consult Computer and get them to clear the self learning memory out of the ECU. I know Hornsby and Haberfield Nissan definately have them, not sure if they all do.

That should make a fair difference for you. However as you have a higher flowing exhaust system fitted to your car it will never completely get rid of the back firing. The only way to completely get rid of it is to put the standard exhaust back on but there's no need to go that far. It will be alot better if you take the steps I've outlined above

    • What can't be done with a little bit of decking board or similar timber bolted to a hub flange via 2 wheel nuts is not worth talking about.
    • I noticed something. On the tps sensor and the sensor behind the adjustment screw is adjusted towards the far left. Are these screws supposed to be centered? (this sensor was in the same position before the tune as well)  Also attached a photo of where my car usually idles at when warm (sometimes a tiny bit above that). I think I might have screwed up the calculation and it might have better than I thought lol at 750rpm still not 650rpm though.
    • So for both general interest of engine health, and to rule out any coolant/oil issues, I organised an oil analysis done on the 125,000klm oil Results below, all good, just a bit of fuel dilution which I'm not too worried about
    • This is actually a really good way of measuring what wheels fit. If only there was a similar measurement between hub face and suspension :p That said, it's probably pretty simple to actually measure it all with the wheel off the car for the rear. The front is a bit more complex but..
    • Being the top Google search result for R34 wheel-related inquiries, lemme throw down my experience. I calculated that 100mm from hub face to wheel face is about the perfect fitment for my ENR34 sedan.  I've been running 18x8.5s, ET35, with a 1" spacer. So, 8.5in to mm = 216mm. 216/2 = 108mm. 108-35 = 73mm. 73+ 25 (1" to mm) = 98mm.  If you wanna get close to this on dif widths, here are the offsets you'll want: 9" - ET around 15mm 9.5" - ET around 20mm 10" - you're crazy, but ET around 30mm All these should fit perfectly on a non-widebody, non-GTR Skyline. Note that it's probably the absolute max, and you're probably better off running a couple degrees of camber in this config, but it looks great, super flush.
