Hi All...

I've got this MAJOR problem with my R31 Import... with a RED TOP ECCS

This is going to be a fair read for everyone but i really need some help.

My car has been on and off the road with this problem for the past 8 months.. (i've only done 1,000 kms in that time)

My car keeps stalling intermittently when idling or driving.

It always occurs once the car warms up.

But not when it's stone cold.

Then, when you turn the key to start it again (after it dies) it cranks but doesn't fire-up.

I've got as far as this,

There is no spark or injector pulse.

There is a constant feed but it won't pulse and therefore won't start (i think)

I've tested the Igniter pack (got a new one), and the CAS and they are both ok (tested with Lowlux's one).

I also swapped an ECU with Andrew (lowlux) and it started straight away.

I didn't drive it with the other ECU but put my ECU back in straight away and after a quick spin it.....

Stalled again, cranked but wouldn't fire up.

I've put the ECU into Diag mode to try and get an error code ... i think i did anyhow...

Turning the thing fully clockwise when the ignition is on,

pressing accelerator and then turning the key should get a code ?

Anyway, the lights were flashing (in diag mode) but not what i think they are meant to do... they

just kept going 1-1 2-2 3-3 4-4 5-5 ... 1-1 2-2 etc etc...

As in both red and green would flash together once.

Then a few seconds laster twice, then 3 times (faster than the first 2 flashes) then 4 times, then five times.

Then back to once etc etc.

So WTF is that?

Any help here guy's would be much appreciated as it's got me knackered and

i've spent over $1,500 on this now and it still isn't fixed and no-body i

take it too has any ideas or wants to look at it for under a small fortune!

The car is A1 inside and out ... and has just had a near new head put on on

it ($1,500) so i wouldn't mind doing some km's in it sometime in the next 20

years!!!

If anyone knows someone who knows someone in Melb (western side preferably)

who can have a look and actually knows what they are doing it would help me!

It's not engine related though is it?

The engine still cranks as as about it does start when stone cold but won't fire when it's warmed up.

That's something else surely.

And where do you get an RB20DET for $350 ?

and has it done low km's ? And is there a warranty ?

I dunno if its the engine... but my old r32 (rb20) did the same thing....never figured it out .... it would just fkn stall while driving 1st ok 2nd ok slap 3rd or slap 2nd some times and she would stall while moving....i duno if this is the same problem but mate if u figure this out ide love to know as i think alot of these rb20s do it...

    • I believe Unimog is the only vehicle that has it (from the manufacturer). I haven't seen aftermarket permanently connected kits, but I haven't looked either.
    • Ha ha ha, can't overthink when exhausted... Oh how I wish I had that power! I can be absolutely dead set shot, and my brain will still go "we need a good 3 or 4 hours to just think about everything and anything before you may sleep... My biggest thing is making sure I give myself enough sleep. I don't operate on even 7 hours of sleep! I attempt to give my body 9.5hours sleep a night to be able to function. I don't sleep the whole 9.5, but I need to make sure I offer a big window. I also take a single supplement, which is to help with long term health, and fighting inflammation, and I notice it helps massively. Especially me sleeping, and just less "achey" in the body. Have also kicked sugar, and gluten. A majority of people with ADHD don't go well with gluten. It causes a really interesting natural opioid overdose in the brain, which causes bodily issues and sensory issues.

    • Yep. But typically that's just run a hose down to the tyre while stationary.   Oh and the Unimog will automatically air up and air down tyres from the onboard computer for you too.
    • There was a good video somewhere, maybe Kurzgesagt that linked physical activity to ADHD/Anxiety/Insomnia etc. Basically the body WILL spend energy doing something if you don't spend it doing anything physical. It isn't fun, but I personally have noticed I've never been overthinky, or unable to sleep if I'm physically exhausted from doing a lot. The musings around it seem to indicate that this is one of the reasons/mechanism that physical activity improves mental health/wellbeing etc, by more or less not using that 'extra' energy to overthink, be anxious, inflammation, etc. There's also the fact that every obnoxious exerciser ever says it's great and helps which is extremely annoying. Like people who say the same thing about travel being the best thing ever. I mean, they clearly are, but blah. I started doing a LITTLE myself (think 3x15min per week) and honestly did notice the benefits, aiming at life quality when older. Which is sooner than you think. Getting something into your routine that you can actually make a routine has helped me at least. This post brought to you by procrastination between sets.
