new springs in old coilovers?

Recommended Posts

My suspension has a clunking noise when i turn the steering wheel.

my mechanic says its because the 2 springs in the one coilover (1 short hard spring and a second larger softer spring) have come apart.

He suggested pulling the front coilovers out, taking them to east coast suspension and fitting new springs to the old front coilover assemblies.

is this the best idea?

has anyone else dealt with this differently?

i dont want to go through the expense of replacing the whole coilover.

thanks for the help

There is an intermediate, (double sided) spring seat that goes between the main spring and the helper/tender spring. Thye soemtikmes slip out or get damaged. Unlikely to be the springs themsleves, my suggestion is to pop into East Coast and they can quickly tell you what is needed.;)

thanks for the help sydneykid,

i just went to eastcoast,

they told me the bearings at the top were worn and causing the springs to not turn freely,

so im having new camber/castor adjustable tops fitted which come with new bearings,
