I guess what I mean is whats the use in having such a high pressure high flowing oil pump with a huge sump if your only going to restrict it?

The hi oil flow and pressure are for the main and big end bearings, not filling up the cam covers with oil. The restrictor sits between the head and the block, so it limits flow to the head, but leaves the bottom end to get full flow.

Too much oil in the cam covers usally means not enough oil in the sump. It can also mean excessive oil into the catch can. I have seen a drag RB fill a 2 litre catch can by 1/2 track, makes an oily mess of everything.

You get oil surge front to rear in a drag car sump, so it needs to be designed to control that. Otherwise you can end up with the oil building up at the rear of the sump during a run and then the crank hits it, bad for power and crank life.
