hi guys,

quite some time i haven't wrote in this forum..very busy nowadays,

i ve just installed a lsd gearbox on my cefiro.I think i have a problem here and need some of you guys advice.

when i'm driving slow and try to make a turn ( left r right ) there is a loud sound from the rear axle .sounds like some gear knocking each other..i don't know how to describe it .but it sounds real loud even I can feel the vibration.

Driving at high speed, the sounds gone even while taking a sharp turn.My mech told me its normal for a car with a lsd gearbox attached to it to have that kind of sounds. It is true ...that sounds really piss me off....any idea?

mine is a viscous lsd...taking corner really make me sick hearing the clunking noise...seem very abnormal to me.I use my car for normal street driving ...innyour opinion is it suitable using viscous-lsd or should i put back my stock diff.Any possibilities will damage the the parts or not?

but on the straight line it really made a difference....lots of power ..

standard LSD Viscous will not CLUNK. as its a 1way type LSD.

Welding your LSD ( from the sounds of it ) will make it CLUNK. I bet all your axle's have come loose, tighten them or else ( most likely already) you will have oil spill's from the axle/LSD seals.

just get a standard Viscous LSD (factory) and the clunking will go away !!

I think you can tell a viscous if you have the car up and turn one wheel it will turn the other wheel opposite.

If it's a mechanical I think if you hold one and turn the other it will not turn unless the one your holding turns.. this applies to 1, 1.5 and 2 way.

*i think*

Do a burnout or a donut in both directions, youll find out if its an LSD obviously from the two tyre marks it leaves.

The nissan r200's are viscous, and yes when you turn one wheel the other turns the other direction. Viscous doesnt engage until your loosing traction with one wheel first, which is why they arent very predictable compared to a mechanical LSD.

Sounds like your LSD has been shimmed. Which is an very cheap and easy way of getting a SAFE locker or preloaded viscous lsd. If your mechanic shimmed it, and put the wrong sized shim.. which are in 0.0xxx of mm's! it will adversly effect your lsd preload... which is the skipping your hearing on coners.

...or u have a bung diff! lol

ask him where he got the diff from. As its most likely 2nd hand of from any other nissan.. as all rwd nissans turbos (s13,14,r32,33,z32,cef,laurel etc) use an r200 lsd.

i got a locker diff...dont know how they locked it (was done in japan) it's making the same nasty noises, anyone know what i should get for about $500, it's gonna be my daily, so want some kind of lsd for when the right foot gets an epilleptic fit, but dont want the crunching and clunking...chicks arent impressed by a car that sounds like the rear end is about to fall off :(
