Just saw these RS2's on ebay in that size. $700 for the four.

I'm getting Hankook Ventus Sport K104's put on tomorrow... seemed to be the best value for money for my needs from reading this entire topic.

Everyone who i speak to say get the RS2's instead of the K104's. Apparently they are new and better than the K104s, with not much price difference. I got another price on the RS2's somewhere else and they quoted $210 fitted and balanced per tyre for 245/40/17's.

You cant get 255's in the RS2's.

Shipping is $60 PER TYRE! So really, $940 plus fitting (with the possibility of discount on shipping, but still!)

Time for new tyres again for me.

ATM have dunlop SP9000s on the front, and SP Sport Maxx on the rear. F215/45/17, R235/45/17. Very happy with them, just as tyres do, they run out.

Went down to the local bobjane, told them my little story about how I like my tyres. As always though I ask what else is in that range that might be any good.

So he tells me about these perelli PZero Dragon's, which are about $75 cheap per corner than the sport maxx. So anyone used them, are they any good?

they dont let go of the road in the dry and are pretty much the same in the wet

has quite a big price tag depending wot conections you have but well work the spend!!!

hey all. reading all these reviews is quite interesting seeing as i work for the qld distributer of the hankook product. a lot of you are on the money with the k104s[i have them on my own line]. but this pattern has been superseded by the new evo pattern. these tyres are different in that they are directional[like the 104s] and asymetrical[can only be fitted to either side]. they look very much like a wet weather slick. the rs2 is good as well, but tyre life is sacrificed for grip[and price]. but horses for courses. also if you are in the market for tyres hankook offer the v8rs424[i know!] & the hr2. which are still performance tyres, but offer far superior tyre life and a better price. sorry for sounding like a hankook add, but i deliver to tyre shops all day and hear the good and bad points of any tyre that is out there.

mate....you either buy fk451s again or you get worse grip...they are the best street tyres I've used. Yes they wear quickly but you have fun in the meantime.

Next best in the price range are probably the federal 595 but they still arent as good.

I just got a set of the fk451 in 245/45/17 for $250ea from tempe tyres for the stagea.

Hey Duncan just wanted to confirm have the falken 451's been replaced by 452's????? And if so has anyone tried them yet? Would hate to get them and then find out they weren't as good as the old ones or something!!!!

I need to replace my yokohama evs 100's. before them i had 539's, so im pretty partial to the yokahama's becasue ive found both of these to be a great tires in the wet with the evs's being better than the 539's thought they did cost more so it figures!!!! I dont think they make the evs 100's anymore so which would you guys rate as the best wet weather tire? I would rather have a better performing wet weather tire than dry if i cant have both!

ive had my car 5 months and still got the tyres that came with it...

front= bridgestone RE711 235/45/17 grip is good

rear= linglong(lol) L688 235/45/17

now i got my car for drifting and since ive had it the shit linglongs on the rear are still ok (or as ok as these shit tyres can be), but the thing that has suprised me is the front tyres are totally f**ked now, down to the belt in no time from drifting. how the hell do the front tyres wear out before the rear when ur drifting lol?

Im going to keep my fronts (Bridgestone S03's i think) for a track day at Sandown, after the track day they will be un roadworthy and i'll change them to the RS2's also.

had nexen 2000's (compliance tyres) in 225/50/R16

dry: 4/10

wet: -1/10

value: 9/10

rock hard, used to drive it so the rear crabbed out of corners (not sideways, but needed less steering input than usual). rears wore faster than the fronts of course. OK fun in the dry but push it around a corner and you would run out of grip quickly. once half worn they were totally, totally unsafe in the wet. I would rate them on par with falken 326 in the wet. don't buy them.

just bought dunlop 3000A in 205/55/R16 (sidewall flex sucks!)

dry: 7/10

wet: 7/10

value: 7/10??

good quality tyre, plenty of grip in the dry and wet. not sure how fast they wear, i have been leaning on them to find their limit so probably not that long ;)

has plenty of grip on the street, and most importantly they don't let go in the wet unless you are quite deliberate about it.

It was actually 210$ for 235's (price mix up as i was getting prices for my brothers car).. But the cheapest i was quoted on 245s was $230, still not bad.

However i can get a set of 4 245/45/17 delivered to melbourne for $770, which makes its about $193 each. But i only need 2 245's for the back of my car, so i need to find someone who needs 2 as well so we can split the cost. haha

I've now got these on the fronts (also 235/40/18) after having Yokahama S306 tyres & they have totally transformed my cars handling. They turn in & grip a lot better dry & wet, give more feel & also less bump steer & ride smoother. They're even more forgiving on the limit (yes I have found it more than once) as they will just start to slide & not just let go like some high peformance tyres. I was totally amazed at how much of a change they made.

Unsure if I will put them on the back yet too. Scared of the price that 255's or 265 are for them since 235's were $350. Will have to find out.

Interested in the RS2's though, I want more grip than the K104's which I may comment haven't really lasted very well either. So that could mean I may as well have the Yokies which I've previously had good experience with wear on.

After the NSW SNS 07, I have given Toyo another shot. I am now running RA1's. There are a Motosport tyre, same compound as the R888, but in a wet weather pattern. I think they are the best grip tyre I have ever owned, but I wont know how good they really are until I do some track time and try some other tyres on the R32.

At the moment I rank them (once they have some temp in them)

dry: 10/10

wet: 7/10

value: 3/10 I expect to only get 6-9000km out of them and they rec at $430 for 255x 17x40's.

P.s. Who cares for value when you are chasing performance only!

I'm on the hunt for new tyres. Since this is a tyre thread...

Tyres on at the moment: Sonar NSII in 235/40/18 - seems to be cheap tyres you get with wheel packages. Thoughts on them:

Dry: 4/10

Wet: 1/10

Price: ?

Have lasted for a fair while being 340 treadwear rating but can't hold first gear at all anymore, in the wet they are deadly as soon as you hit boost in 1st and 2nd gear.

Just to give some more ideas on prices I've got the last few days: 235/40/18

Yoko S-drives (they reckon they are as good if not better than V103's) $388ea ($398 for V103's)

Yoko A-drive R1 - $333ea

Toyo Proxes4 (look alright) - $249ea

Falken ZE329 - $219ea (I thought this was expensive for their 'base' tyre)

Kumho 711? - $199 (didn't appeal to me)

Hankook Z212 RS2 - $230 (but $289 in 225/40/18 size, 235/40/18 must be a common size)

The yoko's are far too expensive, think I will go for either of the two tyres that have been mentioned on here a lot, which is the Hankook Z212's, or the Federal 595SS (or 595SS EVO) - depending on price. Going to see if I can get the Hankook for cheaper than $230 a corner.

Will post up first impressions when I get them.

    • My hold point for future mods is that I want a OEM detachable hard top first, but, finding one is a pain, MX5 Mania are looking for one for me, but, as hens teeth are more common, finding one in Australia is proving problematic  I can get a OEM one from overseas, hell, you can still get new ones in 'Merica, but, shipping is a absolute killer and I cannot justify the cost, or the risk of it being damaged during transport As for the aftermarket hardtops, whilst they do the job of being a hard top, and are fine for a track car, they don't seal well (read: leak like a sieve in the rain), and you need a plastic/poly rear window, plus they are a bolt in option only and not made to be easily removed I liked how the hard top on my NB could be fitted, and removed, by myself, in less than 5 minutes I know it sounds bad, but I'm waiting for someone to write off a car with one so I can swoop in on their pain, it will go to a good home though, so my guilt of this is tempered

    • No, you don't want to plug the vacuum line, as that will turn that side of the booster into an air spring and probably make it feel worse. I'm not saying that the GTR master itself doesn't need a booster. I haven't paid attention to the GTR one to know what size it is cf the non-GTR ones. But when you think about it - they have to do the same job, which is to move a little slave piston a few mm to do what it is supposed to do, and that final action is the same on all the cars. So, it is very unlikely that the GTR MC is any different than the others, because it has the same pedal stroke and the same output requirement. The booster just makes it feel easier. I'd suggest you probably have an actual hydraulic problem. It's totally common on these old shitboxes.
