Tried the Toyo RA1's on the track 2 days ago and they were FANTASTIC!

49sec on the sth cct at Oran Park. very good tyre Im 100% happy.

In the wet this morning even when they were cold did a great job!.

Mine are 245/40/17 front and 255/40/17 rear.. they cost me $290 per tyre, and the bridgestone dealer at hornsby is doing them for $284 per tyre but hes a bit further away from me so i went local .. i think the rrp is closer to $330 odd per tyre but it seems the dealers are doing good deals atm

Dave

good to hear that these tyres are good...will be getting same size. and yeh was qouted by the bridgestone dealer $298..its either that or the dunlop 9000..$350 a tyre 255's x 17.

Just got some Toyo T1Rs on my SP23 a few weeks ago. 205/50/17 were $225ea fitted and balanced. Compared prices (in 205/50/17) with Falken FK452 @ $229, OEM Bridgestones @ $230 ea, and Dunlop SP SPort Max @ $330 ( )

Grip is better than the OEM Potenza 040's, however there appears to be a little more sidewall flex on turn in. Once settled the car is beautiful through the corners.

Overall Im very happy with them, especially in the wet. Price wise they were great, however I was advised that for the skyline (235/45/17) the price was not so comparable :S

Dry: 8/10

Wet: 8/10

Value: 9/10

Hey guys,

Just got into a set of the falken 452's

These are the replacement tyre of the 451's and according to the magical spidey tyre graph that the promotional material comes with they are better in every way to the 451's.

Ok enough bulls$%t

Dry = 9 Feel a slight vagueness Might be tread block squirm rather than sidewall but they stick like s$%t to a blanket!

The feeling isnt bad either just not quite as good as i've had in the past with my last set of yokohamas

Wet = 9.5 Felt great in the wet but i am yet to drive them in the real standing water kind of wet so i may revise this one.

( Been through some big standing water now with no aqua planning although they do flick up alot for people

behind, oh well not my problem!!!)

Value = 10 At $175 a corner fitted and balanced from tempe for 17/225/45 I dont think they can be beat even if they dont

Wear the greatest i can fit to pairs for that price compared to the other tyres i was looking at!

I haven't had these tyres on the track yet but from the way they perform on the road im rubbing my hands together to get to the track! Also guys make sure you ring heaps of places for prices after you have settelled on the tyre you want because you can get some massive differences in price. The yokohammas i was looking at went from about $300 to $375 depending on what store you spoke to!!!

Went to wakefield on sunday and the track was wet to very wet, then oily after someone didnt have their remote oil filter on properly and decided it was a good idea to drive back to the pits from turn 4!!!! The tires worked exceptionally well and had plenty of feel on the track. As the track was covered in oil i decided it would be a good idea to have a crack at drifting and after about 30 laps throughout the day i could find bugger all wear and 30% of that would have been travelling sideways!!!!

Unless your car has alot more power than mine for the price these tyres will not dissapoint!

I just wacked on some Gt Radial Champiros .. Needed some cheapies cause I had seriously no tread.

Was really impressed actually, tread really aggressive and I can dump it at 3000 and have little squeel and it grabs in a second and goes hard until 5000 in first then with foot to the floor will start to lose it .. slightly.. drop it and second sticks like shit to a blanket.. really like them.

8/10 dry

in the wet they are very impressive too for a cheap tyre. 7/10 wet

good to hear that these tyres are good...will be getting same size. and yeh was qouted by the bridgestone dealer $298..its either that or the dunlop 9000..$350 a tyre 255's x 17.

The dunlop 9000s should have gone out of production about 12months or more ago. Maybe look at getting a price on the dunlop sp sport maxx, they are the replacement.

Well after a bit of ringing around the Yokahama Advans are off of my list with about $470 being the best quote I've got for my size (265/35/18) Awsome tyres, but a bit over of my budget this time. I am now looking at:

Falken FK-452 ($320)

Hankook K104 ($292)

Kumho KU-31 ($305)

I was considering the RS-2 Hankooks as well but they seem to be a bit too much of a dry weather tyre for a daily driver. I'm tempted to try the Falken's as I have the K104's now & am not happy with the grip levels I have. 3rd gear wheel spins in the wet from as low as 2500 - 3000 rpm have not been out of the question with these tyres (with only 177 RWKW & standard suspension).

Kumho's I'm a bit iffy on. Never been a big fan of their tyres.

What size did you get these tyres in and what sort of price if you don't mind me asking?

I am looking for new tyres for my GT-R (standard 225/50/16 size) and the local Tyrepower recommended the RA1s to me. Was quoted around 315 each from memory...

Don't know whether to go for a high end street tyre or more of a comp tyre like the RA1

J_Red33 -

Have a look into the new BFGoodrich Profiler tyre, it will be in your price range. I'll more than likely be grabbing a set of these next week rather than the Falkens/Kumhos/Hankooks RS2/K104's I've been offered.

From past experience (a step down from the profiler), phenominal dry weather grip, about middle ground in the wet, however the profiler is newer and supposedly better in the wet. Made in the same factory as Michelin with the same inner carcass/structure. I've been quoted $230ea in 235/40/18 common size.

I'm currently looking for new tyres for my R32 GT-R. I've narrowed some choices down to the Toyo RA1 or Dunlop RSV98 in the standard 225/50/16 size.

Can anyone recommend anything else similar to these two?

I've been quoted around $315-$320 a tyre for these two.

When I bought my Skyline they came with Bridgestone Potenza GIIIs 235/45/ZR17 on the front and 255/40/ZR17 on the rear (is it normal to have higher profile tyres on the front... :) ).

Being the first tyres on the car I have no means to make a comparison but my experience with them is so far good.

So far I've experiensed no under-steer. My last 2 cars where front wheel drive (one being a V6 Magna... king of torque/under-steer...) and my first one had crap, nearly bald, cheese cutter budget tyres whith boat spec extreme suspension... under-steer was a part of driving. Even more so in the wet. Oversteer only happens when I expect it to, ie power through a corner in the wet.

The car is completely stock and the only real problem grip wise is when its raining moderately heavily and I stomp real hard on the accelerator in 1st and sometimes 2nd, the rear end tends to wonder a little, reminding me I'm a tool and I should back off :)

Other than that they stick fairly well. I haven't tried a red-line launch yet, as the idea just seems stupid, obviously its going to loose traction... right? On a drive last week, headed around a corner at a speed I probably should of tried it at (I was following some purple R33 GT-R ) my front tyres made a lot of noise during the turn. Was fairly un-expected.

The out-side edges seem to be feathering a little, which I'm guessing under-inflated or some camber issue. Possibly also due to driving like a tool like I said above...

On bumpy roads they tend to send the shock straight to the passengers though. On really bad roads the steering wheel tugs in the direction of the bumps I hit, but this was only on road in between Dunedoo and Gilgandra where crap roads are the norm.

I think my next set of tyres might be Toyo T1R's, they seem to get a pretty good rap :)

In the market for new tyres now, was keen on another set of Rev Specs or possibly Toyo Proxes 4, the guy at tyre power was talking up the Khumo KU31's over the Proxes 4. More confused now than before.

edit: I have ended up going with the Toyo T1R's, I'm using 17" rim 235/45 $250 and 255/40 $290, pays to get quotes as local joint wanted $315 and $350 respectively. (decided against the Adrenalin RE001 as they are asymmetrical and can't be rotated)

Yes it is normal to have higher profile tyres on the front as the profile number on the tyre is a percentage of the tyre width, ie: 255/40 and 235/45.

Tyre sizing is a mixed bag of measurements, youv'e got millimetres for width, percentage of tyre width for the profile and

then to top it off inches for wheel diametre. Go figure........... :P

Ive done a few track days on the hankook RS2's at Sandown and Phillip Island... They are pretty good for the price, even when the tyres were pretty hot they still gripped pretty well. Althought i did lock up my front left going into turn 1 at Sandown and went off the track, tyre had such a big flat spot i had to change it (wonder if anyone will buy a tyre with 99% tread and a decent flat spot, flat spot is down to the marker)

hi currently running GT radials , Chamipros i think HPZ they are to top of the line ones and they are the grippist tires all round ive ever driven on in the wet dry what ever , dunno bout wear factor they have 1000k on them now and look pretty good still , the 400dollar toyos that i had on before dont even compare with the GT's

i work at a tyre retailer, word of mouth from some of the boys that i work with;

r32 gts-t(standard)- kumho

swift gti (standard)- kumho

180sx (235rwkw)- kumho

and when i can afford new tyres.... ill be goin the same route.(32gtr standard*) *for now.

all have said top grip in wet/dry/cold/hot. cant argue with that???

Looking for some new tyres, 235/40/18 for front and 265/35/18 for rear. Spoke to some tyre shops about T1R's but they wont have the fronts for 3 months and the rears for something like 6 so i'm not gonna bother with them.

Got some prices on yoko advan sport v103:

235/40/18: $404 each

265/35/18 $525 each

I thought these prices were damn expensive. I read a few people have had these tyres on their cars but can they give an update on how they are wearing and performing now? Are these tyres worth spending that much on? What else is there?

3-6 month wait!?!? sounds like the tyre shop don't want to sell them did they/have you tried elsewhere? ring the Toyo distributor for Perth and ask who their dealers are 1800 897 373

    • I would not be surprised if you are the only person on earth that has the interest/desire to do that lol.  The Haltech base map is a really good starting point, the car will fire easily and drive very well, even on mild boost levels. To me, following your advice sounds like some sort of ancient Chinese water torcher lol (this is not an insult Josh, never change <3)
    • Those car show concepts from the 2000's and 2010's like the Floria and IDx were brilliant and should've gone ahead, at least one of them. But neither Honda nor Nissan are thinking about affordable performance any more, which is truly sad.  Even if Toyota's liquid hydrogen ICE development reaches the point where it's commercially viable and the infrastructure to support it, Honda/Nissan would have to wait until Toyota allow fee access to their patents to offer it with any smaller performance models they released to take advantage of it.
    • A sporty manual RWD coupe with a IL4 Honda engine would only be a good thing I assume we won't see anything released for a few years though, unless informal talks and designs have been going on for a few years,  and due to the current, and future, emmisions and safety requirements, I assume anything "sporty" they would do would be at least some hybrid thingie And hopefully anything they are thinking of has nice lines, without lots of plastic and fake bits hanging off it like that horrendous FK8 that looked like it was designed by a 13 year old The other issue of course in the current market is cost, currently the type R is around $70k, a twin is around $50k Meh, I'm old and grumpy and would rather buy a older model car and waste my coin on that than buying anything currently available new
