Can anyone help me out here?

Had a bit of a read through here. Was thinking of going Kumho KU31's for my street only 33 gts-t, 270rwhp. Currently got Yokhama advan sports on the back but there about $500+ each and was only looking at spending around $400 mark for each tyre. Only need the rears though for 265/35/18.

mate option1 garage on here sells there KU36, (treadwear rating of 180) for $236 each plus around 15-20bux each for freight.

great tyre, you wont be dissapointed.

Value for $$: 10/10.

paid about 160 squid ea, use them as steer tyres, lasted 2 track days and a shit ton of spirited driving so far, got plenty of life left in them yet, and i cant fault them.

dunlop direzza dz 101

235/45/17 (mounted on a 9 inch wheel)

Dry: 8/10

Wet: 8/10

Value for $$: ??/10

got them basically new on my current set of wheels, decided to keep them instead of using what was left in the ku25's i was using before. very predictable tyre, gives you plenty of if its about to give, they warm up quickly, and provide plenty of grip, will definitely use again.

quick update, had a track day yesterday (mallala).

kumho's performed brilliantly once again, offering great throughout the day.

the direzzas however... got a bit unpredictable when i really start leaning on them, and delaminated in chunks and strips, ill post pics later. would use them for street, but not for track.

Atm im running Goodyear eagle F1's cost me 1050 fitted for 2 tyres YES i said 2 for 255 / 35 / 18's :D there awesome in all weather types even when going hard on the pedal. Ive Got Toyo proxes 4s on the front and i notice no handeling problems with 2 different patterns in the wet there good tyres too i would go back to bridgestones if i had the money . I used to run Bridgestone PLAY-Z there old school jap ones which are like a potenza im pretty sure they used to be wicked wicked tyres. :)

keep in mind, these were practically brand new when i went out.

That sort of damage is pretty typical of a street tyre that has been used on the track... I have seen it many many times before.

The tyre has heated up to a point where the tread has become too soft and too hot to handle the forces being applied to it and it has lifted tread blocks and "chunked" (technical term :D).

This will happen to just about any street tyre that is used for extended track work because they arent built to withstand the sorts of temps that you generate on the track.

i just found it rather irritating. id previously used ku25's as rear tyres on the track (which are pretty f**kin average tyres imo), and they didnt get anywhere near that bad, and i was pushing just as hard on them.

I also attended the SAU track day.

I was running Toyo Proxxes R888 (275/35R18) all day long. When I found the right tyre pressure (25psi) I had bucket-loads of grip all day long.

When very hot, they obviously provided slightly less grip, but i was really giving them some!

I think BIT SUS is on the go, Personally i reckon the r888 would be a great track tyre for its money, I will say one thing tho and its been said a million times dont expect huge things out of street tyres on the track hence there street tyres not track tyres. I was sad to take my Toyo proxes 4's off the rear of mine for everyday use i dont skimp on tyres. Does anybody need any tyres, i have 275's proxes 4's forsale there 98% brand new i took the 2% off because they had a little scrub on the side lol , PM me if ur interested $300 for both.

I picked up a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 3's for the 34 on the weekend and with only limited driving I'm still impressed with them. They have heaps of grip in the dry! I've taken then for a run up Tamborine mountain and they've been a dream. Picked up 4x 235x45x17 for $996.

The test will be how quick they wear...

Quick question guys (didn't want to start another thread)

what do you think would be better for straight line grip (on 18x9" rim, car is soon to be 250rwkw and 99% street driven, not a daily though as i'm a student)

tyre dealer seems to think Pirelli, and i'm inclined to agree. Will the extra 30mm of tread on the Kumhos offset the fact that it's a lower quality tyre?

I just bought my car a few months ago and they came with some tyres called Ling Longs :P funny name eh?

there pretty bad so i'm looking to change to something good, price range is anything from 200 - 400 each, can someone give me some advice on a good tyre

How do Toyo teo plus compare with the Bridgstone Adrenalin POTENZA on 205 -60- 15.

I cant get much information on Toyo, but what I have got has been pretty positive.

i have used the Adrenalin and got between 30k to 40k for a set of 4. My priority is now changing to having more mileage out of a tyre but with great breaking still a priority ( I guess thats an oxymoron)

Currently have Teoplus on the rear and Michelin Preceda on the front and not happy with the Preceda because of rapid wear rate and handling ( sedate driving and almost worn and only 14000km done. Steering set up was fine) thts

I just changed to Kumho KU36 all round 235/40/18 with 34GTR rims, reason is the width seem almost the same with my previous Falken912 size 245/40/18 which happens to be crap tires after 60% wear. First impression, a lot of grip in the dry and the steering response which used to feel dead has comes alive. This is only my 1st week with it and just try it in the wet...scary when it's cold but once when you warm it up, the grip gets slightly better.

Now i wondering what would the optimum tire pressure front & rear bcos my tyre shop guy recommended 35psi front and 38psi rear. Felt too stiff as a daily ride, and usually every weekend I would go for a blast & twisties with my mates but after midnight.

Go Kumho KU36, I see you are using the same rims as I am. They looks great on the 34GTR rims and offer tremendous grip...sort of Semi-Slick.

Wow I see a lot of 8-9 out of 10 here, and no offence but I think some of you guys need to try even better tyres.....of course the best tyres you've ever used will feel like a 8 or 9 if you haven't compared them to something better :(

My pick of good street tyres are the Falken FK451 at about 450 in 255/40/18. Great tyres wet and dry. The Dunlop SP9000 we are running on the Z at the moment are good too, as they should be at 550ea.

My crap/not worth the money list include Falken 326, Falken ST115 and Bridgestone re040.

My R tyres list goes like this:

Bridgestone Re55 > Dunlop D01J > Yokohama A032R > Falken RS-V04 > Falken RT215

.....but Dunlop DZ02G > *

I must try some slicks so I can add them to the list :(

Did anyone see the tyre test in Motor magazine last month?

Definitely agree with you on Bridgestone RE55 for track!!!
