ku31's or ku39's?

Are the KU39's worth the extra dough?

Im currently running 265-35-18 on the rear. The 255's are much cheaper , would my performance be hurt that much by fitting a 255 in place of the 265's? Car is a daily driver which sees no track use.

May or may not be a help but, the Micra has KU31's on it and they feel good and stick alot better than the Maxxis tyres that were on the stock wheels.

Because of this, I was going to get KU31's for the R33 (my daily) and at $150 / tyre, I thought it was a bargain.

The tread is almost identical to the Dunlop SP Sport Maxx 235/45ZR17 tyres I ended up getting for the same price due to the Managers f**kup.

I prefer wetwipes lol

Tissues are overrated. My pink pokerdot hanky will do fine  If the rsr's are half as good as ad08's then that is serious value for money. Mite have to get hold of some & conduct some back to back testing on lakeside. Anyone care to loan me a set for a day?

Yeah i probably shouldnt really be comparing them. Alot happens in tyre technology in 5 years. Mind you kuhmo tyres are fairly decent these days. Good enough to sort of tame a 650hp jza80 (if thats even possible)

You won't feel the difference IMO.

see if you can get an actual chart of tyre widths. The 255 275 etc etc is actually variable. Dont ask me how or why (probably something similar to the rationale to use a combination of metric, imperial and frational notation of tyre size- fail). N think about it, its not like every tyre in every combination is going to be exactly the 265/35/18 fraction. this would also vary. really its an aproximate measurement.

previously i had a 255 tyre on there that was in fact only 245 wide.

my current 275 is full 275...

but all things being equal. no, that kind of difference on the same brand of tyre would be almost impossible to tell by a 'felt' difference

cheers will just go 255's then. i WILL be getting different tyres( swapping the zeix's for ku31's) but for a street only car it should be okay.

what off set and width do you have? im wondering if ill manage to sqeeze 265/35/18's on a 18*9.5 with 30offset on the rear without looking like a 4wd or rubbing when it squats down a bit under WOT. Will be very close i think.

I've been running the Hankook Ventus RS3 for about 6 months now, almost 5000kms.

Been awesome wet or dry, but haven't got them on the track yet.

Wear has been ok, might get 20k or so out of them.

I probably won't buy again unless they make a 245/45r18. The 40 profile puts my speedo out by too much. Unless someone cracks the ECU code and makes it possible to calibrate the speedo.

if you have it lowered and a bit of camber it will be ok. In fact it will look nice and flush. U have rolled or cut the lip out tho right?

I run a 275 on a 18*9.5 +36 with only .5 degree of camber and it is dead flush with the guard. So you will be +6mm further out, less whatever the difference is between that 265 n my 275...

-so basically the same. N u cant get that little camber in a GTST without camber arms. So they will be cambered in further most likely...

Michelin Pilot Sport 3 225/35R/17

Dry: 9.5

Wet:9.5

For $245 each they're pricey. In the wet you can flog it on a corner and its amazingly grippy they have this inner tyre tread design you can jump on the brakes and they will stop almost like its dry little to no sliding discovered this when i had to jam my brakes the other day.

FOR dry i would say theyre just as amazing have had bridgestone potenzas but theyre nothing near these tyres you loose little or no traction on silky finish roads.

Trying something new!

Achilles ATR Sport 2

putting them on Thursday. Hope they're decent enough for that price. 235/40/18 = 130 .. 255/35/18 = 175 (supplied, fitted and balanced by JaxQuickFitTyres)

I'll update this after I run them in :)

An update :

Got ku31's all round , 235/40/18 & 255/35/18 , $620 all up supplied, balanced & fitted by St George Tyres

D : 9/10

W : 9/10

They are an excellent street tyre , excellent in the dry , excellent in the wet , havnt lost the back end yet. What a night & day difference between the ziex's and the kumho's!

Bang for buck Kumho's are the best out there.

^^ Had the ku31 before i switched to re002, they are good when they are new, once you put some kms on them, it turns to shit, personally i dont find it 9/10 for wet as it breaks traction on 2nd in the wet

Hmm well Ive only put pn about 5000km on the back and 1000km on the front. When do they start getting worse? Ive had numerous reports of them being quite long lasting as well ie 20 000km , its funny that you say that.

I dont break traction at all in the wet(unless im giving it all) but then again I only have 170rwkw so thats not much.

    • Could you modify this duct so instead it pushes the extra air through the radiator too and not down and out? For temps, I know it's not the greatest idea, but as a bit of a last resort, you could use a very intermittent misting spray onto the front of the coolers/rad. You don't want to be soaking them such that water is dripping off, but a small most on/off so that the water evaporates. That point of it constantly evaporating, rather than being soaked in water, will pull a LOT of heat out of the cooler. I'm literally thinking just the little mist sprayers for a garden from Bunnings. Being in a low humidity climate it will help even more! The other trick if you want to be ghetto is some shade cloth hung in the opening, and keep it wet. Pretty much now it's acting like an evap cooler on a house, but cooling the air you need to use to cool the radiator...   On a topic to think about too though, when air enters through the bumper, is it all nicely ducted from the edges of that opening back at a nice angle, or is it like most cars, and the edge of the opening just stops, and suddenly it's wayyy wider behind that? If it does the later, get it shrouded out at nice angles. When that opening changes too rapidly, it can actually cause a high pressure zone between the front bar and radiator, and limit air flow into that area, which means less air for cooling, as it effectively stalls the air, AND adds to drag...
    • Do you have any before and after photos? That's $200 just for the hydro blasting?
    • Yea pedal box and no abs
    • It doesn't look like there's a lot of options out there these days, and what's out there is performance oriented aftermarket stuff (with the GTR markup) I wonder if there are other cars with similar springs, after all its just a matter of length, diameter and stiffness. Alternatively, I did see coil spacers. Probably not the best option, but could be serviceable too.
