 Yes just the size that came with the vehicle, I have currently 195 70/14 tyres at the moment, but they are horrible (dangerous in the wet).

I tried to find the KU31 for my size and it is not available, only R16 & R17 sizes.   :(

 

you can get good tires in 185/65

kumho, dunlop, pirellies all around $100 a tire or less.

just find a reputable tire place and tell them you hate the cheap shit, tell them your budget and buy something half decent.

Your right, I have decided to go with the Kumho 27, tyre, and should get them on Thursday, with a front end alignment.

Yes running the standard wheels, and I have just had put on them KUMHO KH27's, they seem quiet, and seem to hold the wet well,  (it was raining here this morning) and travel very well down the freeway, and stop quite good, I'm impressed.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4 (Initial review) 

Dry Grip: 9/10
Wet Grip: 9/10
Value for money: 8/10
Wear: NFI yet

I swapped from the Rotalla to the MPS4 and there is a massive difference, so much more predictability and so much more stability in the wet. So far I have done about 500kms and they don't disappoint. I'll post an update eventually once I have wound up some more kms on the tyres.

Thanks Kingtube for your input, I think it is important to provide input when there is a group of manufacturers and fitters, just out for the "buck" or "$" only.

Thanks, I am considering these for next time i need tyres as i read good things about these Pilot Sport 4.

So unfortunately the time had come to remove my beloved RE-71R's since the rubber was getting extremely low and I wanted to stick with Bridgestone since the RE-71R still isn't sold here yet, So after reading reviews etc I decided to go with the RE-003, mainly because they only cost me $170 per tyre and I'll be getting 18's soon, so had to keep it civil.. 

Initial impressions are that they slip quite a bit easier! In the wet in RWD I could never get the RE-71R's to spin in 2nd gear, with the RE-003's, I did a 3rd gear pull from 100km/h up to 140 and they broke traction with ease which was unexpected from a stock GTR.. I'll have to drive them around in the dry to get a better impression (and probably get the skin off).

Bridgestone Potenza RE-003

Dry Grip: N/A (Still raining)
Wet Grip: 6/10
Value for money: 7/10
Wear: N/A

Got a set of Nankang NS-2R in 120TW for my daily driver - RS Megane Cup. $155ea fitted for 235/40/18.

Dry grip: 8/10 - noticeably better than RS3, KU36 etc
Wet: 7/10
Value: 8/10
Wear: Unknown at this stage but expect at least 6-12mths of daily use. 2-3 sets for the price of say one set of MPSSs.

They're noisy but not unbearably so.

I currently have AD08R's and I'm not really very happy with them. Rears were toast from new with 8000km of driving and a track day. Fronts are at 12k now and aren't looking too hot.

I don't mind changing tyres more often if it turns out more economical. Was thinking RS3 but if the NS2R's do better and last a year, it'd be interesting to see.
Anyone else feel like confirming if RS3's really only last half as long as an AD08R?

Interesting, Ive also been running ad08r. I find their grip on the street wet and dry acceptable and pretty phenomenal on the track (dry) for a street tyre. I've done 2.5 track days on them and around 7000km daily driving on track focused alignment and they still look to be around 75-80%. I did flip them after the track days and have since gone to A050 for track. I only managed to go 1.6 secs quicker on the A050. The difference was a lot more front end grip and a touch more rear. Greg, what year production where yours, are they the latest version? Overall I think the ad08r is an awesome all round tyre, but since I now have a second set of wheels now with dedicated track tyres, I'll probably just buy cheaper performance Street tyres next time around. Also interested in the NS2R's

    • Good morning all, Bit of a random question but figured I’d finally throw it out after wondering for a long while. Before I start, I'm hoping to do this purely out of personal preference. I think it would look better at night, and don't mind at all spending a few hours and dollars to get it done. I've copied this from a non-Skyline specific forum, so I apologize for the explanation of our headlight switch setup that we all know. Here we go: Zero lights (switch off) Parking lights (switch position 1) being a rectangular marker on the outside of the housing, my low beam being the projector in the centre (position 2), and a high beam triggered by my turn signal stalk. Most North American cars I’ve owned of this era have power to the amber corner (turning indicator) light as part of the first switch (parking lights). I’d love to have these amber corners receive power when the headlights and parking lights are on (headlight switch), yet still blink when using the turn signal which is of course a separate switch. Hopefully I’ve explained my question correctly. Is anyone aware of a way in which I might be able to achieve this? Thanks in advance
    • My heads are cathedral port! It's likely possible, but I don't want to add any extra moving parts (I know they don't move) between the heads, manifolds, etc. It will also affect how injectors/fuel rails etc sit and I don't really know if it would change how the FAST manifold goes/sits/fits. I have the LS6 steam pipes already as I have a very late LS1 block so it should be fine. I couldn't find anyone who had ever actually used one for this purpose, it seems 100% of people grind the water pump. The thermal spacers are 12mm and are half way to the cost of the newer water pump anyhow... so if it comes to that I suppose I'd rather buy a new pump. The bearing in the pump I do have is a little.. clunky, but it hasn't done that much time and I never noticed it when the car was together in the past few years, so..
    • The bushing has failed, not all that uncommon for a car of this age.  Any mechanic should be able to push in a new bushing for you, or you can probably buy the entire lower control arm, complete with bushes.
    • Could you not use "thermal" spacers to give the clearance, like the ones I used between the blower and head? That raised the manifold height by around 10-15mm Albeit the ones I used were for cathedral ports, but I assume they have similar for rectangular ports????
    • Thanks Paul I reached out to Autotainment but they no longer work on JDM cars as the guy who used to do the work moved on and is no longer doing that kind of work. I am talking with Level Up Audio though.
