I've had michelin pilot sports 275x35x18 Great driver feedback, good grip.

Bad: They are directional inside/outside. So change more often and super expensive!!!

REo1-r 265x35x18 Better grip than the michelin but less driver feedback. Not inside/outside so i can rotate when insides wear out. Better, cheaper and value for money.

Continental sport contact 2 in the standard R32 GTST size, 205x16

Managed to get 4 of these that had been sitting around for 8 months with 99% tread for $50 thanks to my buddy whos a mechanic at a very high end car store in adelaide. Normally retail for ~$300 each.

Had to give them a decent burnout to iron out the flatspots and shit on them but after that they have come really good. Better performance than my federal 595ss 235x45x17s I had before and they are much smaller!

Grip in the dry is brilliant, can do 2nd gear launches with 200rwkw and it spins a bit but takes off harder than I can launch it in 1st. Will report back with wet handling.

I just put 2 x Falken Azenis 615 semi's on the front. I know a lot of people have said they aren't true semi's and to be honest that's why I put them on. I wanted to take a leap forward from a standard road tyre but not to something that would last a week.

Let me tell you these things are simply awesome. I previously had Toyo Proxy 4's which though not a true performance tyre leaves Federal 595 for dead. However the Falkens are just so good. They are quiet enough and warm up just like any street tyre, they are better than the Proxies in the wet that's for sure. Dry weather grip is so good I need a track day to find their limit. Not to mention the side wall stiffness is a 50% increase and therefore the response in steering is much, much quicker.

I have to get 4 tyres for compliance for an M35 Axis autech import

size 225 /18 /45 .

I have never driven a stagea.

driving will be the wifes city driving and freeway.

Potenza adrenalin gave 25000k and Michellen pilot 14,000k on a skyline GTS 15 215 60 .

I would prefer something else with great breaking with some decent mileage.

Suggestions and reasons why?

Thanks

Federal Super Steel 595

Dry : 9/10

Wet : 8/10

Value for $ : 10/10

After going through 2 sets of tyres in a period of 6 months (and im a bit of a nanna driver) I went to my buddy down the road and he recommended these, they've been the best tyres I've ever had on it, my back(245) tyres are wider than the front(225) and it has the best handling!!!! The previous tyres were all of the same size and my buddy recommended changing them for better handling. No other tyre I've tried has been as good as these, best for high performance vehicles!!!! each tyre was bout $195... i got them over a year ago (so cant really remember exact price) and the tread still looks brand new

BTW my housemate use to have Michelin Preceda's on her little Ford Focus and they wore out in under 6 months.... She now has Firestone Firehawks and the grip in them are shit, going sideways is easy with little effort....

purchased new 18"x8.5" +35offset Ox Wheels

post-18854-1282597066_thumb.jpg

dropped on a new set of 235-40 18" Pirelli Pzero Corsa semi-slick tyres that I picked up off ebay for $150ea

post-18854-1282597129_thumb.jpg

Amazing road handling ability, treadwear of only 60 so they wont last a long time.

Dry performance of 9/10 - best tyre Ive had

Braking performance is immense

Grip is huge, Ride is soft, forgiving

Steering is precise, firm and quick

my 250kw Stagea feels a real pleasure to drive now.

I think I'll buy the Pirelli Pzero Corsa semi-slick tyres off ebay since they're exactly the same size as my current Falken tyres.

Do you know approximately how much it cost to replace the tyres, do the balance and fitting etc ?

I've been using Federal SS-595s on my S14 for a while, onto my second set.

I cant really rate them out of 10 since I havnt tried many other tyres, but they are very very impressive and never cease to amaze me. Great value for money, just a bit average on wear life.

I have ran a 1:23.49 around Mallala on worn SS-595's in my 170kw lightly modded S14, which for any that know the track, is right up there with people running $400+ semi slicks! Great tyre.

cost me $15 per rim @ tyresandmore to fit tyres to rims, balanced. fitted myself as was also installing 324mm 350z front rotors + caliper bracket adapter.

wet performance of 7.5/10 - very sure footed

dry performance of 9/10 at least

value for money 11/10

taleb tyres sells the pirelli pzero corsa semislicks here on sau trader section or ebay, $150ea plus minimal delivery fee

they are a 2004 date manufacture, so definately old stock, but excellent tyres nonetheless

treadwear rating of 60 so wont last more than a dozen thousand kms I think

what does everybody think about kumho ku36

excellent value for money, great grip levels

treadwear rating of 160 so should last a decent amount of time/use out of them

Michellin Pilot 2's 205/40r17 on front only 8" rim

Dry 9/10

Wet 8/10

Value 6.5/10

i Got these brand new from my regular local tyre shop on a clearance for $50-ea, so for that value 10/10 but their on the market for $225 and i believe that is fair steep for a FWD size

Nankang ns2's, okay on front, terrible on back. I run 235/40/r18's and 265/35/r18's on the back and there is literally no rear end grip in the rain. Front is good though, even in the wet.

Dry 7/10

Wet 3/10

Value 5/10

Won't get them again. Might grab some kumhos next.

Getting new tyres tomorrow, Street use only. All stock besides coil-overs, Reading back through the last 10 pages it seems the 595ss are good enough for street tyres. Tyre size is 235/45/17. Wondering what price range should I be paying per tyre?

$110-195 has been said reading back through the thread.

Confused on what I should expect to be quoted. Will be buying from South-Eastern suburbs also if anyone knows of the best prices store.

    • All of those are near new/brand new/done under 10,000km! This means something! It also doesn't necessarily mean anything.... The idea is of course to fit wider tyres and rims, and to go with engine head updates, I'm sure it will be faster the subsequent time out. But TBH the difference will largely be in driver mod between one day and the next I'm sure. To say I am unseasoned after many years away from even driving remotely fast is an understatement. Giving it half throttle and "Whoa, that's a bit excessive.." and realizing I'm doing 80kmh in a 100 zone is evidence enough lol. I have noticed that there is heat haze/steam/air/something absolutely steaming out of the car after parking it. I didn't drive it in the 40C day for testing yesterday, but on Christmas day it was ~32 and you could literally see the air coming out from the bay after parking the car. Whether that's enough though..
    • I'll take clutch for 50 Eddie.
    • Standard GTRs are boring and there plenty of them, do what ever you want to it and just remember nothing about them is cheap anymore and if you’re picky about how you want things done it gets even worse.    if it’s an n1 or something very limited then maybe care more about it’s heritage
    • Alright guys, I've got good odds the motor survives due to a majority of spare parts. Who's taking bets on clutch, who's on transmission, and who's go diff? Happy to also take bets on if it still overheats in traffic or not 😛     Car looks amazing by the way. I've never been a fan of R34 rears, so really, I don't think any body kit etc solves that for myself, but the front end looks amazing!
    • As an ex-skyline owner Going off how these things are now "modern classics", I would keep the twins and just "refresh" bits that are required for reliable power and have a car you can take out for a cruise whenever you get the itch As a idiot who cannot leave things alone Going deep into the "rabbit hole" is a easy thing to do, as previously mentioned, once you start it becomes a slippery slope, wirh lots of supporting mods, and possibly rebuilds, and unless you have a bottomless pit of funds, the car can spend most of its life sitting in the garage,  broken, waiting for parts, or building more funds For a classic like a R32 GTR Basically, a reliable OEM+ refresh, that isn't a broken garage queen, is alot better than a car that you build, then break, then fix, then break again And it isn't just the engine you need to worry about, these beasties are getting on in age, and all parts are getting, and have got, expensive, the days of picking up cheap replacement engines and other driveline parts are well and truly over The funds not spent on going a single with quality parts, and with all the other other bits required to make it happen, could be spent on refreshing alot of other parts A wise man once said "If you cannot afford 2 GTR's, you cannot afford 1", I also believe he said this about 20 years ago when you could pick up a clean R32 GTR up for around $20k My advice for a R32 GTR (the one and only true Godzilla in my mind) is to think holistically about the whole car, the body, the power train, the suspension, the brakes, and the driveline SAU is a wealth of knowledge with decades of Skyline experience,  from stock, to OEM+, to modified to varying degrees, to full on or weekend or dedicated racecars, as well as full on money pits that rarely leave their garage Treat the old girl nice and give her what she deserves, you are a lucky man to own such a classic car
