Im looking for new tyres for my R33 GTST. Its completely stock but has some Lenso Muse 19" rims. Had Nexen N6000 before, looking at getting Pirelli P1's as theyre ment to be decent tyres and are very well priced form everything else Ive found. ($250 each including fitting and balancing, in Adelaide, SA). Thoughts?

Edit: Car is purely used on street, some spirited hills driving once in a while.

Thought I'd post up a review of the front tyres I've been running

Brand - Dayton DT-30

Size - 225/40/18 on 8.5" rim

Kms so far - 20,000 - about 30% left

Excellent daily tyre that performs good when pushed. Pretty good in the wet too

For 130 bucks a tyre they are excellent. Would buy them again

Car - R33 GTR.

Tyres - Nitto invo 245/45/17

Use - Fairly new, driven maybe 500km or so.

Power/Mods - Stock turbos, Boost Restrictor removed (14 PSI?), Upgraded midpipes and exhaust.

100% Grip in all gears.

In the wet grips extremely well under power.

Handles good but hard to say as I have not driven other GTR's to compare.

So federal have just released a new version of the RSR... the RSRR

My tyre dude says they are a better version yet again in the dry over the RSR. Has anyone had a chance to test these yet?

DUNLOP DIREZZA STAR SPEC V2

CAR-R32 GTR

use these for auto-x days only, great cheater R compound tire. increased my times 3 seconds over my daily dunlop sr sports.

havent had the chance to use them in the wet yet but dry grip is incredible for the price and the fact that it will keep you in the stock class if you want to.

paid 650 for all 4.

no grip issues in any gear, car just has straight pipes and athe restrictor pill pulled. used on stock wheels as well.

held the fastest time of the day for 3 months straight, class includes multiple STI's, john cooper works minis, 240sx, etc.

all in all i highly reccomend the tire for racing and some people claim 20k miles out of them for daily duty as well

Have about 1mm before the minimum tread depth indicators show.

Dry Grip 7.5 / 10

Wet Grip 8.5 / 10

Road Noise 8 / 10

Longevity / Wear 6 / 10

Only real complaint is sidewall flex, which affects change of direction precision, if you have a lower profile this may not be a issue.

Lovely tyre in the wet and road noise is minimal, excellent value for money, will probably put these on again as their price seems to have dropped.

Overall highly recommend for a daily driver.

R34GTT Manual RWD

My reviews are based on grip for Drag racing and Launching. FYI, I'm not pro at launching, especially with my lightened flywheel. I can't really rate the tyres on the wet because I drive like a granny in the rain. I've been upgrading mods every now and then; hence the increased rwkw.

Front Tyres were always Nitto Invo 225/45/17 (UTQG 260)

1. Nitto Invo 245/40/17 (UTQG 260)

  • 185 rwkw - 13.9s ...Was OK for 185 rwkw. Second gear initially chirps but holds well after. Launching at 4000 rpm

2. Nitto NT05 255/40/17 (UTQG 200)

  • 185 rwkw - 13.7s ...Better than INVO. Second gear didn't chirp at all. Launching at 5500 rpm
  • 220 rwkw - 13.4s ...Started chirping on second gear due to increase of rwkw. Still performed well. Launching at 5000 rpm

3. Toyo Proxes R1R 255/40/17 (UTQG 140) - best so far

  • 220 rwkw - 13.2s ...60 foot time was better. First gear grips hard. Launching at 5500 rpm.
  • 220 rwkw - 14.0s ...MCM drag day - Hot weather. Maybe engine heatsoak. Too much grip. 7000 rpm bogging launches.
  • 251 rwkw - 13.1s ...Laggy turbo upgrade. Made me realise how slow I shift. Could of cracked into 12s for sure. Launching at 5500 rpm

I liked these tyres the best. No spinning issues because they grip hard!

4. Mickey Thompson Street Comp 245/40/17 (UTQG 300)

  • 257 rwkw - 13.2s ...Terribad for 257 rwkw. Spin all throughout 2nd gear. Screeching on third. Can't hold the power down. Spins at red lights when not even giving it. Launching at 3500 rpm

5. Federal 595 RSR 255/40/17 (UTQG 140) (PENDING... Not sure if getting these next...)

  • 295 RWKW - PENDING DRAG TIME ... Have not tested yet. Similar to Toyo R1R. Interesting....

Yokohama Advan AD048 (UTQG 60) - Hmmm interesting. Saw it on a R32GTR in sydney

Federal 595 RSR (UTQG 140) - Hmmm.. Similar to Toyo R1R and cheaper

Update! Replaced tyres yesterday. Couldn't get RSR or NT01 due to ordering delays. Tyre shop had R1R in stock.

245/40/17 Mickey Thompson Street Comp

From 0, not launching: first gear spins as it reaches 3k/4k rpm on WOT.

Second gear spins before it reaches full boost. Starts spinning at 17 psi according to EBC

Third gear holds abit, but it screeches during high RPM- sounds like someone braking hard.

Launching at 3k and will spin as RPM rises.

255/40/17 Toyo Proxes R1-R

From 0, not launching: first gear does not spin, all the way to redline, reaches 20 psi

Second gear does not spin at all and reaches full boost 22 psi on WOT. Amazing pull.

Third gear no issues.

Launched at 5k rpm on street. Tyres chirped.. Good pull.. did not Bog down.. Very happy with these tyres at 295 rwkw.. 4.X seconds 0-100

I'm ready for Eastern Creek R4R ;)

I just put some cheap rotala tyres on the front. The noise is horrible. Every bump sounds like someone is bouncing a tennis ball and they transmit a shit ton of road noise. Hankook evo s1 or something or rather i had on the fronts were much better but these were just a cheap option. I will be getting some rsrr for the rear.

I got Pirelli P1's installed due to availability and cost. They are really quiet and have tonsss of grip in the dry. Have not tested the wet weather performance yet though

Ive got pilot sport 3 on my 2012 sti and they were amazing on the SMSP south circuit in the wet at the last track day. Ran a 1.13 when it was still quite wet. Still good in the dry but best tyre i have ever seen in the wet.

You were quickest when it was raining. The amount of wet grip those PS3s have is amazing. I'm definitely getting a set for my Liberty.

you don't value your life much do you? the front tyres do all the steering and braking :)

I would rather good tyres up front and rat shit at the back.

    • Hey guys. I have a 400R on its way to Australia from Japan currently and have a few questions I’m hoping others may be able to help with.   Wondering if anyone here has had any luck getting the Sat nav unit to work in Australia!? Assuming the Stereo is as simple as a band expanded and tv won’t work?  Seeing as they’re based off a Q50 which is Aus delivered is there any way to link that system to the nav? Nav modules and head unit are different part numbers and appear slightly different at the rear with plug ins etc. can I put my xtrail sd card into the rv37 and will that convert the maps or update to Australian? Has anyone got any advice here?     also has anyone fitted the factory remote start and Security system once it’s landed in Australia? I put an enquirey to Nissan Japan in via a third party, and they suggested it needs a Nissan Japan dealers device to setup and couldn’t guarantee if one here could do it or not. They can supply and I can physically fit it but to setup I would need a dealers device. Any information here would be appreciated also. I’ve seen one here with it fitted already prior to leaving Japan at a dealer/inporter, so clearly passes compliance and works when fitted Japan and doesn’t need changing here.      also, does the tyre inflation sensors work here? Does anything change with them when the vehicle arrives? Where are they actually situated? I’ve read they have batteries and they need to changing at times and seems like resetting involves the nav system?    any help here would be appreciated and any other aust specific information to help would be great. Looking forward to see what the current generation skyline is like and eager to see how many of the gadgets can be utilised here.  Thanks in advance 
    • Do need to take it with a pinch of salt. One of the adapter failures, they clearly had setup issues with the flywheel.  One of the slipping ones I spoke to and it was pretty clear the throwout was riding, rather than fix, just swapped to a new clutch.    These clutches are being put in anything from 5k offroad 4x4 beaters, GR yaris, 500hp commodores to 1200hp barra monsters. Bound to be some issues in some of them when they are not a simple bolt in affair due to the changes in height.    There is a lot going on in this picture and unless I did the job myself no way to tell what really happened. 
    • I did this mod in 2019  You just have to modify the top bracket of the ABS/TC/Fuel Pump Control ECU so it sits more upright and closer to the back seat and run a good quality positive battery lead from the engine bay, the negative lead i just bolted down to the body in the boot.
