33NIZ,

When u say u threw a rod did u actually punch it out the side od the block? U said u've had ya car for less than a month so i assume it was pretty standard, for a standar RB too pick up a bearing and punch a rod out is almost unheard of! What were u rev'ing it too? Did u remember to put oil in it?!?! (jk :P)

the bottom end was standard running 1.3bar, pushing in excess of 400hp. It threw the rod out the block reving at a max of 7500...dunno what happend. Just to much for a stock bottom end, I guess.

Yeah. The bottom end was stock but thats about it.

It was making 380hp@wheels on 1 bar @6800rpm so at 1.3bar and 7500rpm it had to be pushing easily in low-mid 400s.

Anything over 400 at the wheels is meant to be a matter of time with the stock bottom ends. Just unlucky you didn't get to do some times before it let go :whatsthat

Oh i see, so what sort of mods have u done?

big turbo, fuel system, computer, front mount, exhaust?

i guess if u were pushing that much boost and power u were expecting it to give way reasonably quickly.

I suggest a nice phat 3L bottom end, loads of torque and would probably work out cheaper!

Hey

i went okay in my 1st run, got a 12.37 which wasnt bad for a 1st timer. stuffed up my 2nd run.hopefully if the weather holds out i'll be there again sat to have few more goes.

hi nick, i missed seeing your gtr run?

but saw you in the staging lanes.

how did you go?

thanks

major mods are as follows: HKS 3037 turbo, HKS manifold and 55mm ex gate, Greddy plenum, Tomei Cams, Nismo (750cc assuming) injectors, GTR fuel pump, Fconv computer, 110mm drag trust cooler...thats basicly the major engine mods, it was running a stock bottom end and hence why it's let go, just really sucks about the timing. From what I've heard 3L is the way to go, can anyone suggest somwhere to do the build? I know its a good/bad rep for any shop but its interesting to hear what ppl have to say none the less (in regard to building rb's and especially rb30 motors).

Cheers Matt

Hey NIZ33 sorry bout last nite aye, u car looked nice as !!! i'd love to see it down the 1/4 !! i hope ur repairs not gona be tooo expensive.

nick

saw your car there too, looked very nice. It's the one with the leather recaros? I didnt get a chance to see you run, as after I threw a rod, by the time I got back to the stands most of the runs had stopped. Not a bad effort for you first time at the track and is by far a better effort than the one that I put forth. GL on saturday and let us know what you run.

Matt

last owner must have driven it a bit like a granny then..

sounds like some fun though once it is all finished.

Yep.... everyone calls me nanna :Paranoid:

I just ran 1bar all the time and didn't see limiter regularly....

i'm guessing it was just the extra power that killed it :warning:

I feel pretty bad about it happening so soon after you bought it.

At least its an excuse to do a 3L or forged bottom end 25 :aroused:

    • Already looked at a few prior to getting the MX5, really nice car, had all the mod cons, but I wasn't really sold on the new "look" I did miss my 2017 Limited, and I personally prefer the "look" of the older car over the new model, but, when pondering I kept going back looking at MX5's But it was same same for the new ND's, I wasn't sold on the new "look", especially the RF with its weird roof, which only half goes down, like a targa top sort of thing As I stated before, I did look at NC's, but the cars I looked at were PRHT's, but I didn't like their roof line "look" of the PRHT, until I saw the soft top version, (someone on SAU posted a for sale ad for one with a soft top that caught my attention, you can blame them for my choice.....🤣) and.... that old style detachable hard tops were available for them, which keeps the old MX5 more smoother flowing roof line, and the more rounded body style, similar to the NA-NB, to me, the arse end of the ND looks to "modern" Much like how I prefer the NC1 front bar, over the later models How long will I keep this car for is unknown, but currently, there's nothing else out there that "floats my boat" for a small, fun, little "sports car", that I can play with and enjoy looking at and driving But, who knows what the future holds, and going off current new car styling, if I replace it, it will be a older model something something
    • looking forward to your t56 swap man its a game changer if it works!
    • So, when are you trying the new GR86 or BRZ?
    • Uncle Duncan Yeap, FI Interchiller  Works well, normal IAT's cruising with the WTA only went from 50°c+ to 25-30°c with the interchiller  Before, when on it hard, the IAT would see 80-90°c, now, the highest has been was around 38°c IIRC IAT is measured under the blower hat I recommend it for the street or strip where your only on it hard for 10 or so seconds, but it wouldn't be efficient for sustained track use as it would heat soak from the AC turning off or whatever it does during WOT to protect the compressor It really needs the AC running for it to not heat soak and keep the WTA coolant chilled My WTA coolant temps when just cruising is around 2°c
    • Hey Mark...sorry to interrupt your career change to hair dressing... but...did you ever fit the interchiller to the commodore, and if so how was it? And, who made it?
