gtst would have trouble. GTRs have (and some guys on here have) done it.

That 11.7 would be with an auto in the LS1s... they probably also have a different stall convertor and diff? harder to get a quick time out of a manual - whats the fastest time for a manual LS1 with bolt ons as above?

The time sheets on the ls1 forum indicate that 11.7 has been achieved from cars with power levels from 240-485rwkw. But then again getting a car to go that quick with 240rwkw is hard to believe. Maybe the dyno was stuffed.

http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/timeslips.php?...rpage=25&page=2

As i said there are 3 cars running in the 11's with just bolt ons. Mind you, these are well tuned shop/owner cars so full enthuasis has gone on the 1/4 times. 60' footers are 1.6, so not your normal everyday set up. Probably also been to Jenny Craigs weight loss program too.

Hi guys,

I currently own a 6 litre HSV and I am interested to get some opinions from the majority of skyline gtst and gtr owners. My question is, if you were stuck at a traffic light and a 6 litre HSV was about to drag you, do you think you will win? If so, by how much?

If not, what mods do you think you will need in order for the race to be close? Also how much power will the mods give you?

For those who don't know much about the 6 litre holden. Here are the specs:

* 297kw

* 1690kg

* 5.1(auto) 5.2(manual) 0-100:manufacturers time.

I would expect a few to say the following so I'll type it before they do:

1)Holdens are crap etc etc

2)Holdens are slow etc etc.

3)Why buy a holden etc etc.

4)GTR's rock and will leave anything for dead.

5)Why spend 60K+ on a car when you can buy something 1/3 of the price, mod it and have a rocket.

6)I am not a stereo typical v8 driving bogun. I do eat rice and last ride was a S15.

7)holdens look crap

8)holdens are too heavy

This thread is not an attempt to mock either skylines or holdens but to see what mods/power levels a skyline will need to have a close race with a 6litre holden. Also to see if there is in fact any respect from the majority of skyline owners for the holden.

I'm not even going to read the thread. There will be bitchin. And R34 V-spec is faster than your car, easily, standard. And you can't handle, have shit traction. Are HSV's any good? If you need the room.

If your in QLD and want to try against a 1989 stock GT-R, lemme know...

I searched and couldn't find answer/and or comments on these;

"How much did you pay for it?  How many GTST's can I buy for that?"

About 53K on road. That's 1 late model R34GTT and 15K change for mods? Or 4 R32 GTSTS? Or 3 GTSTS? Or 1 good nick 96 R33 GTR? Or half a R34 GTR?

But then again it's more relevant to compare new price with new price.

"How fast is it in the rain?  Our GTR's are just as fast."

Yeah.. your GTRs are probably fast as or faster in the dry so the answer is obvious.

"How fast is on a bumpy/dirty road surface?   Our GTR's are just as fast."

Yeah that answer is obvious too. All to do with 4w4 and chasis design. Sports chasis vs family chasis?

"That's the advantage of a GTST on a performance per dollars basis they are unbeatable.  The additional advantage of a GTR is traction.:cheers"

No arguments there.

You have overlooked the practicality advantage of the HSV. It's a family sports car not raw sports car like GTR. I can ask you some questions back:

1)Can you tow a boat or trailor?

2)Do you get any lag?

3)Can you have a full car load and not feel a substantial change in accelleration rate?

4)Do you have warranty?

5)Are there lots of service centers that specialize in your car?

6)And last but not least, do you have much space in the back to make out with your partner? hahaha

Oh, I'm lovin this.

Call me "youngen" at 29. I used to love v8s, now they just a waste of cash and boring.

> Sports chasis vs family chasis?

Holden doesn't have a sports chassis. Period. Lame.

> 1)Can you tow a boat or trailor?

Don't have one. Yes I can, with the company ford road boat I'm forced to drive. Piece of ****ing shit. My gf silvia Q (1992 2.0l no turbo auto) pulls away from it (falcon mk II).

> 2)Do you get any lag?

Not at 3000 rpm or higher. A LITTLE, but you have no torque surge mid range now do you? I don't need to go lower than 3000 rpm, ever.

> 3)Can you have a full car load and not feel a substantial change in accelleration rate?

Twin turbo inline 2.6l running 14 psi from factory? Of course I don't feel substantial change...

> 4)Do you have warranty?

No, but they're actually built well.

> 5)Are there lots of service centers that specialize in your car?

Yes. Including my best mate who's a mechanic. Specialise in HSV? For what? Changing oil? To increase power you need MAJOR mods, unlike turbo cars.

> 6)And last but not least, do you have much space in the back to make out with your partner?

I have a house. And a big bath. And a lounge room. Back of car? Not 17 and living with mum and dad :P

As practical? No, it's a SPORTS CAR. Practical + performance don't mix.

And to ask yourself:

1) How easy can you gain 100kw? How much cost?

2) How is the reliability of your car vs jap nissan (know from experience it's shit).

3) Can you car actually corner?

4) Why didn't you buy a porsche, or a GT-R, or a BMW, or whatever? Bathurst right? Old men down the pub? When they let GT-Rs back in Bathurst and they get beaten (i.e. the GT-Rs crash) come back with an argument.

I'm taking this as a performance argument, not being catty or childish. I have friends with FPVs, all that kind of American-Aussie shite. They're laughable. They don't even understand what GT-R does. I've been through all this, had fords, mates have bombed V8s, they don't compare (try 8.6 sec capris - I can't beat that, but for $300k... hehe there are as fast Gt-Rs on street tires for half that).

So, if you're looking for Holden Shitty Vehicle respect, you will get none from me. Based on logic. I like fast, nimble sports cars.

Let's debate - on the performance car issue. I kept up with a 300kw HSV (year ago) in a boosted Silvia (around $20k). Once the GT-R is boosted, forget it...

Your HSV is cool, in it's own right. If you want a family sports car, and a warranty which would likely be voided in minutes if I drove it.

Biased? Sure, with good reason.

Well they make more power than ur car does... lol

Its the weight that holds these cars back, however they are family sport cars and need to be large for this reason, thus they do a fairly good job at offering all the features needed for a family but still having a sport aspect to them (space, tow bars, roof racks etc)!

Ford do have a 4l 6cyl DOHC turbo car as well remember...

I love my Nissans more than anything, but you cant hack away at these cars as they serve their purpose well. And they make 300kw versions of te 5.7L V8s so they'll introduce a 300+kw version of the 6L HSVs too im sure :P

Look at a dyno graph. Power figures aren't everything.

NA = quarterpipe

Turbo = mountain

BTW the next GT-R at last time I read is 350kw factory. With the GT-R drivetrain.

Argue practical, only argument you got. Hey, they are just commonwhores with bodykits from the outside.

Had a bad day? Sure.... lol

Nah... good day... and funny debate - someone posting about his Holden "SPECIAL" vehicle on a Skyline forum expecting not to be flamed? Come on you're fishing... Surely...

If you're not arguing performance, let me know and I'll just stop paying attention. I figured that was what this is about. If I'm wrong, forgive me :P

* 5.1(auto) 5.2(manual) 0-100:manufacturers time.

Umm, auto faster than manual... WTF?

I would expect a few to say the following so I'll type it before they do:

1)Holdens are crap etc etc

2)Holdens are slow etc etc.

3)Why buy a holden etc etc.

4)GTR's rock and will leave anything for dead.

Yeh.... you're spot on.

This thread is not an attempt to mock either skylines or holdens but to see what mods/power levels a skyline will need to have a close race with a 6litre holden. Also to see if there is in fact any respect from the majority of skyline owners for the holden.

Nah, not much respect, or we'd buy V8s would we not?

Depends what sort of race huh? Corners? to 300km/h? What?

Ok a regualr RWD skyline will need some... mild mods. But you're talking HSV. So compare with NISMO Skyline :P

Japanese are light years ahead in car tech. Period.

I'm awaiting some :flamer:

I love a good argument, BTW... :D

I think you lot are a pack of wankers for trying to bait and belittle Vuster. This is a good natured bloke coming on in a friendly way and discussing cars......a mutual interest. How many of us are going to the HSV forum to say hello and learn a bit?

I've raced at a HSV club meetings with the Team Wang guys (as well as NDSOC, PIARC and Maserati club with a raft of exotics and locals and even basic little 70's machines), and we had a ball and didn't carry on like school children. Wanna know what I find pathetic? People that are all talk about how great their car is but don't see any circuit, or if they do actually get there, after talking it up perform dismally. I go and race and it's my credibility, and Snowman's and Scotsman's and Duncan's and Roy's and Ferni's and all of those guys with the WANG to have a red hot go. If you can't post a good laptime for your particular machine then you don't have an opinion that matters. Period.

Cars are about choice, and enjoyment. If we all liked the same thing there wouldn't be enough to go around. OK so I'm a Skyline hog and have 3, but I also have a V8 and a 4 banger, and each car is different, very different. Including the HSV of Vusters, I'd be hard pressed to decide which car to drive 5000km in, the HSV or the V8 Soarer (no not a Skyline), but on track then it's an issue of the GTSt track car or the GTR, but don't doubt the HSV has the ability to go hard at the track and be a comfortable long distance ride. I have seen them go and just like Skylines are in need of a little modification to get the most enjoyment out of.

Be happy to buy you a beer sometime Vuster, and maybe score a ride in the HSV. We're not all pig ignorant and bigoted.

    • So, when are you trying the new GR86 or BRZ?
    • Uncle Duncan Yeap, FI Interchiller  Works well, normal IAT's cruising with the WTA only went from 50°c+ to 25-30°c with the interchiller  Before, when on it hard, the IAT would see 80-90°c, now, the highest has been was around 38°c IIRC IAT is measured under the blower hat I recommend it for the street or strip where your only on it hard for 10 or so seconds, but it wouldn't be efficient for sustained track use as it would heat soak from the AC turning off or whatever it does during WOT to protect the compressor It really needs the AC running for it to not heat soak and keep the WTA coolant chilled My WTA coolant temps when just cruising is around 2°c
    • Hey Mark...sorry to interrupt your career change to hair dressing... but...did you ever fit the interchiller to the commodore, and if so how was it? And, who made it?
    • I've been pondering this, I really enjoy the convertible thing, for me, it's like riding a motorbike, without all the issue of riding a motorbike, mainly, my old sore arthritic joints getting beaten up, and, being able to do it in shorts and a T-shirt and not needing a helmet and all the other gear required, especially like wearing jackets and pants in the summer, or needing 6 layers of cloths in the winter, or not having wet weather gear handy when your 100km away from home on the bike when it decides to start raining As for the hard top and its Coupe look, whilst I do lose all that open top feeling that I really enjoy, from my experience with the NB with a detachable hard top, the cabin is a much nicer place to be, the difference in noise for one, a hard top quietens down the interior, alot, with the soft top up or down it's pretty noisy, which, after 5 or so hours, can get tiring But, as you stated, the detachable hard top totally changes the look of the car, in a really good way, and for me, the look of a detachable hard top is so much better than the PRHT which looks more like a after thought with its weird bulbous rear roof line For me, the minimal effort of putting in on, or storing it after removing it, is well worth the time and effort for the look alone And yes, I'm sure the next owner will be grateful for it as well.......
