Hey guys I recently gave my R32 an oil change and now i've got a strange squeal at full boost and I think its coming from the turbo. Everything is still running fine idles fine, comes onto boost good but when full throttle and full boost it sounds like a bearing or something. Any help would be great thanks guys

Got the same problem, a stud snapped off. :P

Whats the go with fixing that.

You want some spiral easy outs. Take a stud with you to the hardware store and get the biggest easy out you can. Your going to have to be very careful, but its not an uncommon problem.

If you can get it out with the easy out, then you have a real problem.

What he means is take everything off untill you can get to stud with drill and drill a hole in the centre of it, then use an ezyout ( a tool that looks a bit like self tapper srew but has lefthand thread) and screw it out. You may be lucky and be able to get it with vice grips or even a centre punch and tap it around if it is loose enough but being manifold I doubt it. Be careful not to drill at an angle as it will stuff the thread and make unscrewing (at an angle) awkward.

well on mine, i had an aftermarket intercooler (thus more clamps and more prone to leaks) and 3 out of the 6 clamps had either not been tightened properly or was loose to start with at certain points (bottom right when i bought it, then throttle body one skipping thread after refitting when replacing radiator, and later bottom right clamp not tightened enough)

first one that existed when i bought the car made a whistle sound when turbo kicked in, next one made similar sound at high boost, and final one (with an obviously loose clamp u could move with hand) made a fart-cushion/air horn type squeal above 0-5psi)

sorry if you thought i meant stock one - hopefully its less prone to problems.

How about remove the intake tube and check the turbo shaft for play. My money is on the thrust bearing being worn out.

If it ends up being a turbo issue, let me know and I'll get you a good price on fixing it

My standard RB20 turbo started giving what sounded like a cop siren on boost and took the intake pipe off and the compressor wheel was rubbing on the housing.

Fixed it by replacing it with an RB25 turbo :headspin:

my exhaust manifold studs snapped and the first signs was just after the turbo came on boost you could hear a faint whine. cost me 800 bucks to get it fixed and they put copper nuts on?? to stop it from happening in the near future or sumthin. i wouldve had a go myself but not keen on drilling into the block for some strange reason lol

I used to use something called Kopr Kote on exhaust manifolds, or any place that was going to get really hot. Most studs would gradually weld themselves into place, but with Kopr Kote they were really easy to undo. I think it used to be available through Ampol distributors.
