hi andrew, nice ride. congrats on your new car. i too bought an r32 gtr. it arrived on the docks yesterday. Valentines day! My new baby! i wont get it for another 1-2 weeks yet. did you get yours thru a broker? did you end up saving much? what did you pay in broking fees? have you seen your car yet? was the auction grading system accurate? i bought a 1993 r32 gtr vspec with an auction grade of 4. no accident totally stock except for breathing mods and 35000 on the clock. i dont think i really saved any money at all as i did pay big money for it. judging by the photos its a really nice car. but they can look totally different in the flesh. what sort of gurantee did your broker offer?

Congrats on the Car dude!

Silver 32GTRs are the best! Nice to see it has a V-spec lip on the bonnet and N1 Bumper Vents.

Mine doesnt, tho the V-spec lip goes on this week.

As far as power goes, mine made 237rwkw on Race Paces Dyno with Exhaust, Filters, 1 Bar boost and HKS Cam gears.

But as always, you crave more power........

Ethen_R32: preety nice ride mate, but i question on whether it is a 1994, check the chazzy number, i dont think nissan made r32 GTR's in 1994, the auction sheet might say 1994, but that is most probably when it was first registered, like 35% of the cars that say they are 97 or 96 but they are actually first registered on those dates but complianced in japan the year before, correct me if im wrong.

to get 250rwkw on a gtr isnt to much of a hassle, and on that sort of power your looking at a high 11 with a good launch and descent tyres(preferably slicks).

my mate with his R34 GTR dyno'd his car at 240kw@wheels at croyden autosports, he has:

1- 3" turbo back HKS exhaust

2- two Blitz air filters

3- two 80mm Z32 air flow meters

4-Blitz electronic boost controller set at 1.2 bar (17.5 psi)

5- Apexi power Fc computer

6- HKS cam gears

7- OS Giken triple plate clutch

your standard clutch should last a little, depending on how you treat it, but a descent 3000 pound single plate or twin plate will do the job.

make sure you get an aftermarket ecu, apexi would be a good choice, if you want to reach that sort of power and get it detonation free then you need an aftermarket ecu.

the fuel pump doesnt need changing, but it will be about 95% duty cycle, and with a car that is 10 years old, i would invest with a bigger one just incase.(with 250rwkw, the standard fuel pump wont handle it, 240,should be ok, dyno it and see)

correct me if im wrong guys.

p.s- 5 litre v8's do 13.9-14.2 standard, a standard GTR will cream them, let alone one with over 400hp!

definately made r32gtrs in 94 and u dont need aftermarket ecu for 250kw

Thanks for the compliments guys.

Atomic bomber man: quite a few questions there.

Yes I did get through a broker who also did my compliance for me. The company was Ultimate Performance Imports, and the owner is on these forums under vspecv. The fee was $1000, and no I havent seen the car in the flesh yet, but have seen many pics of it and good descriptions. I saved heaps by importing.

Yes the auction grading was accurate.

How much was your R32 GTR if you dont mind me asking? They are getting really cheap these days if you import, as I found out. :)

I totally trust my broker so I dont need a guarantee. I HIGHLY recomend UPI.

RN GTR: yeah I thought the N1 vents were a bonus! And I will have very similar mods to what you said. So im hoping for the same kind of figure.

Driftn: yeah i am 100% sure R32 GTRs were made in 1994, which makes mine kinda rare, as there werent many. ;)

Are you sure 5 litre V8's will do a low 14? I know that 300kw 5.7 litre HSV's only do around 13.9 so I woulda thought a 5 litre is around the 15's???

Thanks Matt! :(

Yeah ive been told that it will be ready next tuesday/wednesday, so I am just dying to get it.

Im also getting a new HKS super dragger exhaust and front pipe fitted, plus adjustable cam gears, k&n panel filter and a few other odds and ends, and it is getting dynoed tomorrow (thursday) so ill let ya know what she gets. Hoping for around 240rwkw:burnout:

Pfft that is in Wheels mag and they cant drive. Motor runs consistant 13.5s in various conditions in a GTS and its listed as 13.3 by HSV and if you go on to LS1.com.au and ask a guy named craig he will tell you he ran a 13.3 in his stock VX GTS. I believe Street tuner said a stocker ran 13.1 in Adelaide but you would have to get him to confirm.

I to thought there was a few R32s made in 1994. Congratualtions on the car it sounds very nice! I hope its a great car and now you can go thrash some of those Corsa's around Mildura :D

Consider yourself corrected.

R32 GTR's were definately manufactured in 1994.

Thanks Phantom SS.

Yeah I was only going on what Mags say, but you see, I also know someone who has a 300kw HSV. Who can only ever get high 13's at the strip. He has tried some sort of slick tyre with his stock HSV, but then only got a low to mid 13 i think.

Plus I know a guy here in Mildura with a 360kw CSV Veloce, which only does 13.1 second quarters too. His CSV "Bullet" ute with 295kw does around the mid 13's i think.

You'll eat any Commodore! The 300kw ones are still weak. Any GTR with a bit of boost will nail them.

If you wanna launch, I suggest a twin plate clutch and semi comps first.

A power FC, injectors, 2530 turbo's or similar, front mount, fuel pump, cam gears or cams, boost control will see you running low 11's easy.

HIRISK (Shaun) had stock turbo's and ran a 11.59 pass.

Man that is unreal!

This was at a fairly safe 16psi and pretty rich up top, so maybe a bit more to go later on down the track.

Nice result mate gotta' be happy with that!

I'm wondering just how safe 16psi really is on the stock R32 GT-R T28 turbos?

Matt (whatsisname), well mate you are exactly correct :D

I just got the bad news on monday that my stock turbos have shit themselves :hellpisd:

They were ran at 16psi which evidently must have ended them. Obviously they were on their way out.

But I have got some virtually brand new R34 GTR turbos fitted in their absence which "should" be ok for 20psi. But Ill only run them at 16psi again.

Im hoping that nothing else in the engine gives up, and that these turbos might extract a few more kw out of it.

Hey mate,

Thats no good about the turbos.. thought 16psi should have been okay on the turbos, but guess it would have happened sooner or later. There are a few 2nd hand twin turbo setups around for GTRs for around $3000-$4000 I've seen. Munro i think was selling some GT2835R's from his 9sec car, he might even still have them.

Don't worry, even your old car is eating SS commodores and STI's and that only has 2 wheels to the ground and traction problems :P Haven't tried against 300kw version yet but there is extra weight involved. Apparently the GenIII V8's really only have 225kw anyway, despite their claimed "250kw". Commodore owners are all talk and no action.. GT-R is the king of the road short of 100k+

You must be loving it on those open roads up there, oh "private tracks", those ones :D

Guys, its not the HSV cars you have to watch out for they are underpowered and overweight factory cars. The ones to watch are the cars that have had LS1 edit done on them, or even more so the cars with Head and Cam packages. Also strokers are starting to show up with big power gains. Sure your chances of running into these worked versions are slim due to the popularity of the commodore but if you do dont be suprised if they perform much better then expected :P Still for V8 commodores traction is always the main issue! :uh-huh:

    • Well, I'm tired. I'm tired because about 4PM yesterday, before today's appointment someone immediately bought my bumper. They couldn't get it any other day as they're on the way back to NSW. So I had to do that big GTR conversion I had been planning. Unfortunately, the information on SAU about what you need and how this is done is incomplete. So what should be a simple bolt on affair, yeah, it's not. Did you know if you use all GTR items the bonnet won't close? This little manuever sent me into about 1am the night before trying to dodge a way to get it closed. I will have to revisit this in the next few days  - or maybe not, I may let a body shop figure it out. It all needs to come up and my motivation to pull the bumper off is low. It also seems to hit things in the bay where the GTT bonnet didn't. Yes I used 100% new OEM GTR items. Today, I had the joy of driving to the dyno looking like this: Given I had roughed in the fuel and given sensible but pretty conservative timing, I didn't really bet on having the car drive out any real difference than when it drove in. Sadly due to a miscommunication and laptop fun and games (and almost bricking the dongle, prayers and firmware updates indeed), I ended up using HP Tuner credits to licence the car that was already licenced. So in the end my laptop was used. It turns out my butt dyno is still well calibrated after all this time. The 325kw was on 74% Ethanol, the 313kw line was on 98. The other line is the 'before' line which was 281kw. While the numbers are pretty low, they're pretty in line with what you'd expect. Even if US dynos bump the whole result up about 50KW, gaining 10-15% is similar gains.  The curve of the cam is pretty much spot on with what was discussed as well. All this said, it still feels bad to not see the number you secretly want to see. Even if the car drove great beforehand, and I knew pretty confidently the car would drive out much the same way it drove in due to the nature of a wellish dialled in LS1 not gaining much if anything at all from being tuned from where it was. As expected, the car isn't particularly sensitive to running it at anywhere between 12.0 and 13.0 - And the initial timing at 20deg and 12.0 made 308KW. So 3 degrees of timing, and leaning it out to 12.7 for 5kw, anything above stopped giving any benefit until E85 (which has an additional 2 deg as before). Car itself behaved entirely fine. I found out that 100C = 1.15V! IAT at about 7pm was 19C. I might mess with the bonnet mounting.. but given the REO NEEDS TO BE CHOPPED TO FIT A GTR BAR this is possibly something I may leave gathering (more) dust until it returns to paint jail.
    • It sounds farrrrrrr too cold at your place Duncan... Here I was thinking our 10 degrees overnight is getting cold...
