New Brake Pads Fitted - Still making Noise

Recommended Posts

I already made a thread about the same topic... my Bendix Ultimates work like a charm but ONLY my front driver side one Squeals under light/med braking... all 4 disc's were machined and fitted with Bendix Ultimates... Hard braking usually shuts it up for a few min till it gets cold again...

Any suggestions?

On another note... Babylon, was that you I ran on Cowpasture Rd a month or so back? :)

Cheers

All I can say is each case is different, take it to someone who knows about skylines to look at the issue.

A lot of people looked at my car "so called brake specialists" told me I need 4 new discs I didn’t like the sound of that so I took it to bel and the only problem was that I didn’t have shim pads. Had nothing to do with the discs, pads, or the calipers.

I haven’t been down cowpasture rd for over 3 months only have been using it the last 3 weeks watching the world cup at marconi. And I don’t run other skylines lol RESPECT. So chances are it wasn’t me.

I have been having the same problem with squeeling at low speed braking.

I have new RDA slotted roters front and back.

And EBC green stuff on the front with bendix ultimates on the back.

I think the squeeling is due to dust build up?

I only get squeeling on the front, and thats where all the dust is. The ultimates dont squeel or make dust.

Why doesn't someone try a set of genuine Toyota 100 series Land cruiser pads?? They seem to last well on a 2500kg 4WD and pull up from cold and dont squeel like some pads, but i'm not sure how they will go on a 1500kg Skyline...

As I work for a Toyota dealer, I hear very good reports about them. I have just bought some for my car to try as see what they're like for a performance street pad.

They fit in a Skyline caliper and have a bit more pad area.

Part numbers are:

04465-60220 1/1998-8/2002 Has silver metal bits in them

04465-60230 8/2002-> Has more copper coloured metal in them

RRP $93.50 incl GST

I personally went for 04465-60220 and will keep you posted how they go!

Go back a page and check out what SydneyKid suggested if that fails, Then take the car to someone who knows about skylines.

P.S dont make the same mistake i did make sure you have Shim pads. lol

... looks like I needed to be told twice before it sunk in, thanks babylon :)

Direct quote from EBC

SHIMS - WHEN DO I NEED THEM?

Many semi metallic pads (those containing steel fibre) come fitted from the factory or aftermarket suppliers with rubberised metal shims on the back to prevent rattling and squealing. This is because of the type of material they use. At EBC we very rarely use shims because in 99 cases out of 100 we do not get noise, due to the non metallic nature of our pads. In certain cases however and in certain types of use, especially “under-use” shims may be necessary to quieten a pad. These can be obtained from EBC free of charge by simply calling 818 362 5467 and stating the type of vehicle. These will be sent out to you and again reminding you that the installation costs are for the customers account, we do not warranty this fitment charge or consider it part of our guarantee.

So either I need to thrash my car more regularly, or I should get a set of shims.

I put the Bendix General CT in my R34. They are the lowest Bendix model that are suggested for passenger vehicles. They don't make a noice and have excellent cold responce. But boy do they fade!

I will be swapping them to Endless SSY soon.

  • 3 months later...

hi guys, i have the same problem my brakes squeal like a woman in labour,

this is what i've changed since they starting to squeal

new rotors RDA

4 different brake pads,

bendix ultimate

bendix HD

fredos formula i think 2000 or something liek that

and then i went for Genuine, which stop squealing for a week, then i starting giving it a hard time for like one day, since then it started squealing again like a pig, i do have the shims on, i've cleaned everything like 3 or 4 times, i dont know what to do....

i have a worn castor rod bushes on the rears, could that be it...?

all this was done at a brake specialist, and he is even out of options,

can the shims be damaged or worn after use for a while, there is no obvious damage tho...

any help is appeciated
