I was down at the RTA transferring the registration for a car i had just bought when i started talking to the guy about the 15yr old car i'm importing (i was asking whether it is possible to drive it to the compliance workshop - which it is apparently).

But then he told me that after it gets the blue slip it may get knocked back by the RTA, meaning it has to go for a 3rd Tier inspection at an RTA station (because its more than 10yrs old).

He said that it might not happen, but that i should prepare for it so that its not a surprise

Has anyone had that happen to them? Is this common? I've heard they are extra strict there...

they always pick imports for 3rd tier inspections.

they are 50/50 picks on any other car.

With the 15yr old imports they usually don't get inspected. Once you have Engineers certificate and blueslip, RTA just registers it.

With RAW complied vehicle getting registered in personal name, they always get inspected, but RAW vehicle getting registered in dealers name normally doesn't get inspected unless randomly selected.

They check numbers but also check for car in general. For example if car was too low they would probably knock it back.

Well, it has air suspension so height isnt so much of a worry (though even at 10cm height its hard getting up driveways!!!); I've had a look and to be honest there isnt that much 'defectable' stuff on it! (widebody/loud paint isnt illegal).

Got my fingers crossed though :P
